Abstract: Bodily-injury protective garments with enclosures have been described, particularly for children and the vulnerable elderly. Children have been portrayed wearing injury protective goggles, and inflatable garments for the neck, breast, hips, knees and wrists. To reduce the bulkiness of some of the larger garments, such as the one around one's hips, an inner tube with high pressure fluid is introduced. This inner tube is susceptible to breakage and its high pressure fluid discharged when intense pressure or bending is exerted upon it, such as would occur when one falls upon the garment. An alternate technique of its fracturing and discharging fluid, is to provide a check valve at the tube's outlet neck, so when high pressure is exerted upon the check valve's exterior, its high pressure fluid would be discharged into the garment's enclosure, inflating it further, for further bodily protection from injury.

The hat comprises an upright preferably pleated sidewall adapted to be formed into a closed generally curvilinear shape. An adjustable headband is attached to the lower part of the pleated sidewall and adapted to adjustably fit a range of head sizes. A stiffening strip is attached to the upper part of the sidewall with at least part of the strip positioned in the interior of the hat when it is assembled. The free ends of the flap are adapted for overlapping telescoping fit of one end of the flap within the other. Preferably, the aperture portion is located at a top central portion of the head-covering portion. Ordinarily, a hat brim is attached to the head-covering, but can be brimless. With using the adjustable aperture containing hat apparatus, a person's hair braids (ponytail or dreadlocks) can be threaded through the aperture portion, and the aperture size adjustment assembly contracts around the bases of the hair braids (ponytail or dreadlocks).

Abstract: A contamination avoidance garment for emergency egress during nuclear, biological, and chemical (NBC) events is described. The garment is comprised of a single item, or of multiple garment pieces, and is configured so as to afford the wearer a high degree of barrier to a toxic environment while evacuating to a toxic free area. The garment is designed for easy donning and doffing, and combines the performance characteristics of both continuous film-based barrier composites and toxic vapor adsorbing fabrics. The garment is configured to reduce the influx of toxic chemicals by preferentially controlling pressure differentials within the garment by filtering the air entering various garment openings such as sleeve-ends, neck openings, front openings, leg-openings, and/or specifically designed environmental filtration panels.

The apparatus comprising a cover portion for covering and forming a seal around an aperture, and location means for engaging with a component associated with the aperture to retain the cover portion in place. For example, the locating means may include a securing element that engages with the fixed component, and screw threaded components to draw the cover portion into place. Embodiments of the invention may be applied to seal an aperture such as an airbrick, a wastewater outlet, an overflow, etc. Further apparatus comprises a sealing portion and a securing portion whereby the apparatus can be disposed for use in a toilet bowl such that the sealing portion is retained in position by the securing portion to substantially seal an outlet of the toilet bowl. Once the risk of flooding has passed, the apparatus can be removed.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for lime- and sulfide-free unhairing of skins/hides using animal and/or herbal (plant) enzymes. The process comprises presoaking the skins or hides in water for 2-6 hours, pasting an enzyme solution of animal or plant origin on the flesh or grain side of the skins/hides and leaving the solution on the skins/hides for 10-24 h at a temperature ranging from 10° C. to 60° C. The soaking liquor is removed and the hides/skins to a bath of water containing 1 to 15% of enzyme for unhairing, with or without intermittent shaking, while maintaining the pH of the bath liquor at 4.5-10.0 for 12-24 h at ambient temperature. The skins/hides are then unhaired for further processing. The total elimination of lime and sulfide in the unhairing process leads to reduced TDS (total dissolved solids), BOD (biological oxygen demand) and COD (chemical oxygen demand) in the effluent without affecting the collagen of the skin/hide or the grain pattern.

The boiler may also include additional boiler cleaning equipment, including water cannons to clean the furnace, and conventional steam sootblowers to clean other heat exchangers of the boiler.
