Publication number: 20040031670Abstract: In accordance with the invention a method is provided to allow the moveable signal path plate of a MEMS switch to separate from the fixed signal path plate and open the signal path. A solid-state switch is provided in parallel with the MEMS switch. In operation, the MEMS switch is used for good signal transmission and the solid state switch is only used to open the MEMS switch. As a result, the solid state switch needs to have a low capacitance so it does not appreciably affect the signal transmission. Further, the solid state switch needs to have high power handling capacity, i.e. low resistance, but it is not required that it have good signal transmission qualities.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2001Publication date: February 19, 2004Inventor: Marvin Glenn Wong

Publication number: 20040031671Abstract: The switch unit (10) comprises an actuable button (11), which in a first region (12) is swivel-mounted on a frame (13) and in a second region (14) is directly or indirectly in operative connection with a switching element (15). The switching element (15) is suitable for triggering a switching signal when the button (11) is actuated, in that at least the part (26) of the switching element (15) triggering the switching signal is able to move by actuation of the button (11) along a straight axis (16) which is at an angle to a switching surface (17) of the switching element (15). The linear movement along the axis (16) has the effect of reducing the exposure to wear of the switch unit (10), which by virtue of its simple construction can be used universally for various button concepts.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 12, 2003Publication date: February 19, 2004Applicant: SIEMENS AKTIENGESELLSCAFTInventor: Wilfried Scheuer

Publication number: 20040031672Abstract: This invention involves one kind of liquid crystal color light switch, made especially from cholesteric liquid crystals. By changing the voltage applied, the reflection wavelength of the color light switch can be controlled, leading to a rapid change of the reflected light from red to green to blue in rapid succession, thus creating a color display. The core technology of this invention is making the voltage applied to the cholesteric liquid crystal less than the untwisted voltage and still in good focal conic state, that is the symmetric axis are in the same direction, and the pitch is varied according to the voltage applied.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 15, 2003Publication date: February 19, 2004Inventor: Jing Wu Wen

Publication number: 20040031673Abstract: A keypad with both elevated and non-elevated key regions, and key switches disposed beneath both types of key regions. The non-elevated key regions each provide corresponding character output based on an operation algorithm that considers activation of at least one adjacent elevated key region as well as activation of the switch below the non-elevated key region. The keypad includes a keymat that is rigidly held at its perimeter in a stretched condition across a switch substrate. The key switches include metal snap domes that have an elevated central region forming a downwardly facing cavity defined at its edge by a ridge disposed above the switch contacts that electrically engages multiple switch contacts in an annular contact zone.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 23, 2003Publication date: February 19, 2004Inventor: David H. Publication number: 20040031675Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for efficiently producing quadricyclane by the conversion of norbornadiene. A sensitizer, such as a substituted diaminobenzophenone having a solubility in norbornadiene greater than that of Michler's Ketone, may be added to the norbornadiene to form a solution, wherein the sensitizer decreases the induction period at the beginning of the reaction, increases the photon or quantum efficiency of conversion of norbornadiene to quadricyclane, and increases the rate of conversion at the end of the reaction. If the solution is irradiated with light from a metal halide-doped mercury arc lamp to photochemically transform the norbornadiene to quadricyclane, the conversion is more efficient than when other light sources are utilized. Furthermore, the addition of triethylamine to the solution tends to result in the formation of fewer by-products in the transformation reaction.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 12, 2003Publication date: February 19, 2004Applicant: Exciton, Inc.Inventors: Paul A. Publication number: 20040031677Abstract: A system for performing PVD of metallic nitride(s) is disclosed. The improved performance is provided by a method of increasing the partial pressures of nitrogen or other active gases near the wafer surface through initial introduction of the argon or other neutral gases alone into an ionized metal plasma PVD chamber through an upper gas inlet at or near the target, initiating the plasma in the presence of argon or other neutral gases alone, after which nitrogen or other active gases are introduced into the chamber through a lower gas inlet at or near the wafer surface to increase deposition rates and lower electrical resistivity of the deposited metallic layer. An apparatus for carrying out the invention includes a source of argon near the target surface and a source of nitrogen integral to the substrate support thereby delivering nitrogen near the substrate surface.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 22, 2003Publication date: February 19, 2004Applicant: Applied Materials, Inc.Inventors: Wei Wang, James Van Gogh
