  • Patent number: 6702187
Abstract: A diffuser (10) for controlling flow of air in an air conditioning system, the diffuser comprising two temperature sensitive elements (20, 22) for respectively sensing room temperature and duct temperature variations. The elements (20, 22) are axially aligned. Links (68) are provided for displacing an air flow control baffle (78). A control structure is provided for displacing the links (68) in dependence on sensed room temperature thereby to displace the baffle (68) and vary air flow. The control structure has two components (34, 36) which act on the links (68). When the element (22) is detecting cooled air the component (34) acts on the links (68). The component (36) acts on the links (68) when the element (22) is detecting warmed air. Switch over between these conditions occurs automatically as supply of air is changed from hot to cold and visa versa.

  • Patent number: 6702193
Abstract: An apparatus and method for the tasting of wine includes providing a conduit with an upper end and an opposite bottom end. The bottom end is sealed and preferably solid and it includes a first opening that is disposed slightly above the bottom end. The first opening is adapted to permit the wine, absent any sedimentation, to enter into the conduit when a partial vacuum is created at the upper end. A smaller second opening is provided between the upper end and the first opening that is adapted to introduce a quantity of ambient air into the conduit when a partial vacuum is created. The quantity of ambient air that is introduced is limited by the small size of the second opening to ensure that a partial vacuum sufficient to draw the wine through the conduit is maintained. The ambient air mixes with the wine that is passing through the conduit to aerate the wine in the conduit prior to its tasting.

  • Patent number: 6702209
Abstract: A drop-on-demand liquid emission device, such as for example an ink jet printer, includes a member movable through a path for driving liquid from the device, wherein the speed at which the member moves is reduced over the time period that liquid is being expelled. During that time period, a portion of the liquid flows through a passage away from the nozzle orifice. According to a feature of the present invention, a variable flow restrictor increases the resistance to flow through the passage during the time period that liquid is being expelled; thereby tending to compensate for the reduction of the liquid-expulsion force over the time period. The result is a reduction of undesirable satellite droplets following a main drop.

Abstract: In a seatbelt retractor having a motor, a belt winding spool, and a switching mechanism that turns on and off a power transmission route between the motor and the spool, the switching mechanism includes a device that connects the power transmission route between the motor and the spool only when the motor rotates in the retracting direction. A ratchet mechanism allows the spool to rotate only in the retraction direction during the emergency operation, while allowing the spool in any directions in the normal operation. The resultant locking mechanism can be rapidly operated upon occurrence of an emergency, while the seatbelt retractor will not cause uncomfortable feeling or unpleasantness due to unnecessary locking when an occupant tries to withdraw the seatbelt.

Abstract: In a process for insertion of wire (30) in the form of a field coil (56) between the pole horns (38, 40) and the stator wall (36) of a double-pole stator (14) of an electric motor, the stator (14) consists of two stator halves (12a, b) and the wire (30) to form the coil (56) is inserted by way of a winding arm (16) rotating about a rotation axis (y) lying perpendicular to the stator axis (x), where during the winding process, for temporary formation of an enlarged insert groove (34, 35) for the wire (30), a winding accessory (32) is laid against the outer edge of the stator (14) and the free ends of the pole horns (38, 40) are covered with a wire guide sleeve (42). The process allows the winding of stators in which the pole horns largely cover the rotor external diameter of collector motors, leading to a higher motor power.

  • Patent number: 6702228
Abstract: Motion picture film reel for holding, transporting and storing film comprising a pair of disc-shaped side retaining members and a central hub around which the film is wound. Each disc-shaped side retaining member is formed with a central hub engaging section with an annular projecting collar that defines a central primary opening for receiving a shaft and at least a single secondary opening that defines an appendage formed integrally therewith. A bendable prong, which extends from the central hub of each disc-shaped side retaining member normal to the plane thereof, includes a distal end and defines a slotted opening for engaging the appendage. A hub defines a central aperture for receiving the annular projection collar, a shaft and a pair of openings for receiving the bendable prongs, which are caused to pass through their respective openings and extend outwardly as the distal end of each prong engages an appendage.

Abstract: Flight information is displayed using visual indications that resemble real world visual cues. For example, left and right side attitude displays extend vertically along each side of the windshield and a yaw display extends along a lower edge of the windshield. The attitude displays employ reference indications and outermost indications which track the position of the actual horizon. The yaw display employs outermost indications spaced from a reference indication a distance proportional to the rate of turn. Indexing of indications between the references and the outermost indications provides the appearance of movement representing climb, descent and turns. The rate and direction of indexing may be proportional to the rate and direction of change.

  • Patent number: 6702230
Abstract: A ballistic resistant flight deck door assembly for an aircraft is disclosed that also enables pressure equalization within the aircraft in the event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure within the flight deck or cabin. The door assembly includes a door having a plurality of spaced apart panels of ballistic material and a honeycomb support panel. A ventilation area is formed in the door by a plurality of apertures in each of the ballistic panels that are arranged such that no two apertures of the two ballistic panels are perfectly aligned with each other. The blowout panel and ventilation area therefore allows airflow through the door to help equalize pressure within the flight deck in the event of a loss of depressurization of the flight deck without compromising the door's ability to provide ballistic protection for the occupants in the flight deck.
