  • Patent number: 6761110
Abstract: A method by which stacks of printed sheets can be formed and, at the same time, the risk of soiling of the stacked sheets can be reduced to the maximum extent. To this end a printing machine is proposed, in particular a sheet-fed printing machine, into which unprinted and intermediate sheets are alternatively feed, wherein the printing is registered such that the printing occurs only on the unprinted sheets and not on the intermediate sheets. In this way, the intermediate sheets prevent damage to the print on the printed sheets.

  • Patent number: 6761116
Abstract: A high-precision pyrotechnic initiator is well adapted for rapid, precise ignition of solid and liquid energetics. A rigid housing, for example formed of an SiC-treated semiconductor substrate material, contains a pyrotechnic. When ignited, the reaction, or explosion, of the pyrotechnic is confined to the housing. The release of energy creates a hot particulate in which the formation of solid byproducts is mitigated or eliminated. The flame is directed through an outlet. In one embodiment, a microcapillary tube may be placed in communication with the outlet, the tube including a primary front vent and secondary side vents, which serve to increase system efficiency and reliability. A dual bridge wire may be provided for improving system reliability. The resulting assembly thereby performs the combined functions of both an igniter and a flash tube and a complete ignition train is provided in a manner that overcomes the limitations of the conventional configurations.

  • Patent number: 6761117
Abstract: With typical ordnance systems, for example, grenades, a user must decide to explode the ordnance before the actual device is thrown. However, in many situations, it can be useful to be able to throw an ordnance system and make a decision to explode the device after it has landed. The present invention comprises a combined reconnaissance and ordnance device. The present invention is capable of real time acquisition of data, for example, digital still images, or video and audio data. The present invention also comprises a two way communications ability. By acquiring and then transmitting data to a remote console, the present invention allows a user to observe a given situation. After observing the environment surrounding the ordnance system, a user can determine whether or not to explode the ordnance system.

  • Patent number: 6761120
Abstract: An agricultural primary tillage implement is disclosed with a row cleaner assembly attached in front of the shank. That row cleaner is adjustable fore-and-aft for optimum clearance between the shank and a leading soil preparation apparatus to maximize clearance for residue movement. The row cleaner is also adjustable for depth. The row cleaner assembly reduces the amount of residue in line with the shank path (row) and creates smaller clod sizes of soil in line with the shank swath, resulting in a better seedbed and faster warm up in the spring, enabling the planter to run in cleaner soil, preventing planter plugging and uneven seed planting depth as well as resulting in better seed-to soil-contact.

  • Patent number: 6761124
Abstract: Column-stabilized floating structures having a deck and a plurality of vertical buoyant caissons bridged together in distantly spaced relation by a plurality of open frame horizontal truss pontoon members and vertical truss columns at a lower end. The buoyancy of the caissons is selectively adjusted by means of ballast control. Water is selectively pumped into or out of keel tanks at the bottom of the truss structure such that the water mass and weight is adjustably tuned to raise or lower the center of gravity of the entire mass of the floating structure relative to its center of buoyancy. By tuning and positioning the center of gravity relative to the center of buoyancy, the floating structures can be tuned according to ballast and other variable or fixed loads including the deck payloads and to compensate for different operational, environmental, and survival conditions and towing and installation stages.

  • Patent number: 6761144
Abstract: A counter-rotating rotary-piston engine has an output shaft with a cylindrical inner cavity rotatably mounted on a single support spindle in the frame of an aircraft. The output shaft extends substantially through the length of the engine block, which is suitably journaled on the shaft or the spindle to permit its counter-rotation. Internal combustion power is transmitted to the output shaft by means of an inner rotary piston fixed to the shaft which cooperates in conventional manner with an outer working chamber in the engine block, thereby producing concurrent rotation of the shaft and counter-rotation of the engine block. Dual propellers mounted on the shaft and on the block improve thrust performance, balance the torques and moments of inertia of the two counter-rotating masses, and virtually eliminate any resultant torque to the aircraft.

Abstract: A throttle system for a general-purpose engine, having an actuator (motor) connected to a throttle valve to open or close it so as to regulate amount of intake air. An output transmission mechanism constituted as a link mechanism or a gear mechanism is provided between the actuator and the throttle valve to transmit an output of the actuator to the throttle value such that an output of the mechanism relative to the output of the actuator when the throttle valve is fully closed, is smaller than that when the throttle value is not fully closed. With this, the system can finely open and close the throttle valve when its opening is small and can open and close it at high speed when its opening is large, while preventing throttle valve seizing.

Abstract: Processing conditions are determined on the basis of an operation range. After IG-OFF, an intake valve opening timing is advanced to 20° CA BTDC, and an exhaust valve closing timing is retarded to 20° CA ATDC. By controlling the intake and exhaust valve timings as described above, it is possible to reduce the fuel sticking to the intake passage. Particularly in the case of cold engine starting before activation of the catalyst, it is possible to prevent direct exhaust of HC emissions and accordingly to reduce emissions because of the decreased amount of fuel sticking to the intake passage.

Abstract: An apparatus and process for diagnosis or control of the ignition or load state of a two or four cycle internal combustion engine. A generator rotating synchronously with the engine generates alternating voltages which are scanned by a control and the alternating voltage amplitudes correspond to the rotational speed of the engine. The control detects at least one of the voltage amplitudes each revolution and, based upon the detected amplitude, calculates a control or diagnosis value, sets one or more flags and/or triggers a control event at an ignition control and/or data output.

Abstract: The high-pressure fuel supply system of an internal combustion engine includes a high-pressure portion for supplying fuel to a plurality of fuel injection valves, a high-pressure pump, and a low-pressure pump for supplying fuel to the high-pressure pump. Upon starting of the engine, the high-pressure fuel supply system starts fuel injection after a pressure in the high-pressure portion is raised to a preset pressure higher than a rated discharge pressure of the low-pressure pump by the high-pressure pump. In view of a fuel consumption amount consumed from the high-pressure portion through the fuel injection valve and a fuel supply amount supplied to the high-pressure portion by the high-pressure pump, the preset pressure at which the fuel injection is started is set so that first fuel injection to each cylinder of a plurality of cylinders by each of the plurality of fuel injection valves is conducted at a pressure higher than the rated discharge pressure of the low-pressure pump.

Abstract: A method for extending the operating range of engine fuel injectors fed by a pressurized fuel system includes operating the fuel system at a controlled lower fuel pressure during engine operation in a lower power range, and operating the fuel system at a controlled higher fuel pressure during engine operation above the lower power range. An engine embodying the method may include a fuel distributor connected with the injectors for supplying the pressurized fuel and a pressure control operative in response to a prescribed engine condition, such as supercharger boost pressure, to maintain injector fuel supply pressure at a lower value during engine operation in a lower portion of the power range and at a higher value during engine operation in a higher portion of the power range. The dual or multiple fuel pressures provide greater fuel output for increased power in the higher power range with consistent fuel delivery for stable idle and engine operation in the lower power range.
