  • Patent number: 6786265
Abstract: A laminating machine including an improved laminating pull roll mounting assembly and an improved roll height adjustment mechanism. The roll mounting assembly is formed of a pair of inwardly and downwardly extending slots. The slots include a recess on which one hub of a pull roll can be placed prior to placing the roll into the slot. The recess allows a second roll to be placed on the machine while a first roll is being secured to the machine frame. The second roll is then secured to the frame of the machine by a height adjustment mechanism including a pair of pivoting plates connected to the frame by springs. The springs push the plates upwardly to increase the space between the first and second rolls. A winding mechanism also connected between he frame member and the plates can be selectively operated to adjust the space between the first and second rolls by acting against the bias of the springs.

  • Patent number: 6786272
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for die-casting copper and other metals that are cost-effective and practical for production use in die-casting, for example, copper motor rotors. In motor rotors, the incorporation of die-cast copper for conductor bars and end rings in place of aluminum is known to result in improvements in motor energy efficiency. Previous attempts to die-cast copper motor rotors in a commercially feasible manner have failed because copper's high melting point places too great a stress on the die material, resulting in cracking and fracturing of the molds. High temperature die materials such as nickel, tungsten and molybdenum based alloys with a high melting point are employed, and a die casting apparatus is provided to pre-heat the molds prior to injection of the molten copper. Pre-heating and high operating temperatures provide extended die life.

  • Patent number: 6786274
Abstract: A heat exchanger coil assembly is provided. The fins of the assembly include lance style enhancements on a corrugated shape of the fin. Lances are provided on both the upstream and the downstream sides of each corrugation. The upstream lance forms a first angle with respect to a direction of mean airflow and the downstream lance forms a second angle with respect to the direction of mean airflow. The first and second angles are not equal, such that the lances are canted with respect to one another. This generates two different streams of air flow such that a wake of the upstream lance will not impinge on the downstream lance, thereby maximizing heat transfer for both the upstream and the downstream lances.

  • Patent number: 6786306
Abstract: An elevator mechanism protects the control, communications, power, and/or lift cable(s) of the elevator system, precluding lateral cable movement within the elevator shaft. A slotted cable guide contains a cable therein, with the cable having a diameter larger than the guide slot to preclude escape of the cable from the guide. The upper end of the cable has a reduced diameter and extends through the guide slot, where it is supported by a lift bar extending from the elevator car and into the slot. A mechanism allows the lift bar to move laterally to preclude binding in the guide if the elevator car shifts laterally slightly. Another mechanism shuts down the system if the cable and/or cable reel jams. The present elevator mechanism is adaptable to virtually any type of elevator and lift mechanism, but is particularly useful with elevators used in tall, open structures.

  • Patent number: 6786309
Abstract: A brake assembly permits axial rotation of a shaft in a first direction and retarding axial rotation of the shaft in an opposite, reverse direction. The brake assembly includes a rotary member for mounting to and rotation with the shaft; a fluid actuated brake mechanism for retarding the rotation of the rotary member and consequently the shaft upon pressure build up in the brake mechanism; a bi-direction pump for conveying fluid from a reservoir, the pump being driven by rotation of the shaft; and a control manifold for directing circulating the fluid from the pump through the brake mechanism and back to the reservoir without pressure build up, the circulation of the fluid preventing the accumulation of gas in the brake mechanism, when the shaft turns in the first direction and or directing fluid to the brake mechanism for activating the brake mechanism by fluid pressure build up to retard rotation of the shaft when the shaft turns in the reverse direction.

  • Patent number: 6786313
Abstract: A rotational control apparatus (10) includes multiple facings (274-276) rotatable with and axially slideable relative to a mount (124) and which sandwich multiple friction plates (252, 253) rotatable with and axially slideable relative to a hub (12). To create turbulent air flow, the friction plates (252, 253) include an undulating outer circumferential edge (258) and a plurality of passages (260) in the interface portion and overlapping the inner peripheries (282) of the facings (274-276). An automotive clutch release type bearing (290) directly abuts between a piston (40) and the friction facing (274) and is encapsulated in the piston cavity (36) and a cavity (277) formed in the friction facing (274), with the friction facing (274) engaging the axial end (34) of the air chamber (24) when the facings (274-276) and the friction plates (252, 253) are disengaged. In the preferred form, the air chamber (24) and the mount (124) are of the same geometry and are machined from identical castings.

  • Patent number: 6786314
Abstract: A driving force distribution system selectively operates right and left electromagnetic clutches and, thereby assisting a vehicle in turning by transmitting torque from the inner turning wheel to the outer turning wheel. The right electromagnetic clutch includes an armature on the right side of a core housing a coil. The left electromagnetic clutch includes an armature on the left side of the core housing a coil. When the right electromagnetic clutch is engaged in order to assist the turning by transmitting torque from the right driven wheel to the left driven wheel when the vehicle is turning right, since the right electromagnetic clutch includes the armature on the right side of the core, the armature is urged leftward toward the core due to a centrifugal force caused by turning right to reduce an air gap, thereby enhancing the responsiveness of engagement of the right electromagnetic clutch as well as reducing the power consumption.
