  • Patent number: 6810899
Abstract: The present invention relates to gas separation membranes including a metal-based layer having sub-micron scale thicknesses. The metal-based layer can be a palladium alloy supported by ceramic layers such as a silicon oxide layer and a silicon nitride layer. By using MEMS, a series of perforations (holes) can be patterned to allow chemical components to access both sides of the metal-based layer. Heaters and temperature sensing devices can also be patterned on the membrane. The present invention also relates to a portable power generation system at a chemical microreactor comprising the gas separation membrane. The invention is also directed to a method for fabricating a gas separation membrane. Due to the ability to make chemical microreactors of very small sizes, a series of reactors can be used in combination on a silicon surface to produce an integrated gas membrane device.

  • Patent number: 6810901
Abstract: A foot-actuated condensate drain for an air compressor tank. The foot-actuated condensate drain includes a lever that is connected to a valve on the bottom of the air compressor tank. Movement of the lever, for example by a user's foot, causes the drain valve to open. The lever may be moved to a locked position where the drain valve is held in an open position, even if the user releases his or her foot. The valve stem of the valve is hollow and includes a seal for closing off the opening, and radial holes below the seal and in fluid communication with a hollow interior portion of the stem. When moved away from the closed position, fluid in the compressor tank flows out of the opening, around the seal, into the radial holes, through the stem, and out of the valve.

  • Patent number: 6810914
Abstract: A method and arrangement to accomplish a self-acting function of one way flow in a conduit with minimal flow resistance is disclosed. A one way valve, which in an unaffected position blocks the conduit, is of a flexible, elastic material, and is arranged with a tight fit in connection to the inner surface of the conduit and is partially fixed along the inner circumference of the conduit by means of one or more parts having a surface with longitudinal/circumferential extension in the conduit. In case of pressure of a medium in one direction of the conduit, any flow will be blocked due to the fact that the pressure of the medium will press the non fixed parts of the one way valve against the inner surface of the conduit, whereby a completely tight element is formed. In addition, the non fixed parts of the one way valve collapse in case of pressure of the medium directed in the opposite direction, whereby a flow will be let through without any substantial resistance depending on the magnitude of the pressure.

  • Patent number: 6810915
Abstract: In an accumulator comprising a pressure vessel, a bellows dividing the interior of the pressure vessel into a gas chamber filled with pressurized gas and a liquid chamber which communicates with a liquid pressure circuit via a liquid introduction port, a stay member attached to the inner surface of the pressure vessel inside the bellows and provided with a communication port for communicating the interior and exterior of the stay member with each other and adapted to be closed by a part of the bellows to define a fully contracted state of the bellows, and a safety valve provided in the stay member, typically in the form of a weakened portion of the stay member, for selectively communicating the exterior of the stay member with the interior of the stay member. Thus, because the safety valve is not provided in the pressure vessel itself, the safety valve of the present invention would not affect the sealing capability of the pressure vessel.

  • Patent number: 6810917
Abstract: A flat woven papermaker's forming fabric having a paper side layer and a machine side layer interconnected by pairs of machine side layer weft binder yarns. Each of the binder yarn pair members in sequence interlaces with a portion of the machine side layer warp yarns in segments of the weft yarn path so as to complete an unbroken weft path in the machine side layer weave pattern, and to provide an internal machine side layer float. Each of the binder yarn pair floats interweaves with a paper side layer warp yarn so as to bind the paper and machine side layers together. The location of the internal floats in each layer determines the available interweaving locations, not all of which need be used. A wider choice of possible paper and machine side layer weave design combinations is thus made available in forming fabrics, thereby allowing for a better match between the forming fabric and the paper maker's requirements.

Abstract: A supply spool supplies a weft thread through an adjustable actuated thread brake and a thread tension sensor to a weft thread accumulator, from which an accumulated insertion length of the thread is provided to a weft insertion device. The tension sensor provides a measured actual thread tension signal to a control arrangement, which compares the actual tension to a selected rated tension, and, dependent on the deviation therebetween, provides a control signal to an actuator of the thread brake, so that the actual thread tension constantly corresponds to the selected rated tension. Another sensor provides a signal indicating a change from an empty spool to a full spool. Responsive thereto, the control arrangement actuates the thread brake to an adjustable starting brake setting as a coarse adjustment. Then the self-regulating fine adjustment is continued. A constant winding tension and thread accumulation length are achieved in the thread accumulator.

Abstract: A bank section (112a, 112b) are formed between a plurality of electrodes (111) which are formed on the base body (2). A functional layer is formed on each electrode (111) by injecting a composition from a plurality of nozzles. A display device is manufactured which is provided bank sections (112a, 112b) between the functional layers formed on the electrode (111). A nozzle array in which a plurality of nozzles are disposed to be inclined in a main scanning direction scans on the base body (2). A liquid drop (110c1) of the composition which is injected initially for each functional layer is injected so as to contact at least a part of the bank sections (112a, 112b). According to manufacturing method for a display device in the present invention, it is possible to realize a display device having superior display quality without causing non-uniform functional layer for each pixel electrode.

  • Patent number: 6810920
Abstract: The novel use of a one-way valve (13) to prevent drips of fluid such as fuel from a fluid delivery conduit after an intended flow shut-off is disclosed. At least one embodiment involves the use of a biased, one way valve that is reconfigurably responsive to a fluid flow shut-off pressure to prevent flow (e.g., drips, drops and/or a fluid stream) after an intended shut-off of fluid flow via closing of a main valve element (5). The biased, one-way valve (13) may itself comprise at least one fluid obstruction element that is rotatable about and attached at a chord of a simple closed curve (a circle or oval, as but two examples) defined by the inner surface of the conduit through which fluid in the vicinity of the valve flows. Nozzles of existing fuel conduits may be retrofitted to include the valve, or initial manufacturing may incorporate the valve within the conduit.

  • Patent number: 6810922
Abstract: A fueling and associated vapor recovery system maintains the same, or lower, vacuum level in the vapor hose during ORVR vehicle refueling as that seen during a non-ORVR refueling. A valve assembly is made as either a part of the end of the vapor recovery hose assembly, a separate unit that is placed between the hose assembly and the nozzle, or incorporated directly into the nozzle. The valve assembly includes a diaphragm biased to one position by a spring to which is attached a sliding valve member. The force of the spring on the diaphragm is sufficient to keep the valve member in the original position when refueling non-ORVR vehicles so that the vapor hose is unobstructed and an air bleed hole is closed. When refueling an ORVR vehicle, the elevated vacuum level moves the diaphragm and valve member to a second position which blocks off the vapor hose from the vacuum pump and opens up the vapor hose to the air bleed hole.

  • Patent number: 6810924
Abstract: A method and filling station are disclosed for introducing a compressed gas stream into one or more vessels such that upper and lower temperature material limits are not exceeded and preferably such vessels are not over or under filled by controlling the filling temperature of the compressed gas stream. The compressed stream is produced by compressing a stream composed of a vapor phase located within a cryogenic liquid storage tank. The density of the vapor phase is held constant by adding heat to a liquid phase, preferably by addition of a subsidiary stream composed of the compressed gas stream. The filling temperature of the compressed gas stream is controlled by adding heat to the compressed gas stream by a trim heater or to the vapor stream to be compressed by recirculating part of the compressed gas stream to an inlet of the compressor.
