  • Patent number: 6862911
Abstract: A method for cutting a hollow extruded profile section into lengths in a press flow, wherein the extruded profile section is bent upon exit from the press either simultaneously with or directly after the forming extrusion process by a force acting thereon in a transversal manner in relation to the direction of the extruding press, and a force component acts as a traction of pressure force during the forming extrusion process on the cross-sectional area of the hollow-profile walls thus arising. The bent extruded profile section is cut in the press flow by the mechanical action of a saw, whereby force exerted on the extruded profile section during cutting is compensated by a supporting device arranged adjacent to the extruded profile section, so that deformation of the bent extruded profile section is prevented.

  • Patent number: 6862920
Abstract: At least one parameter of at least one fluid in a pipe is measured using a spatial array of acoustic pressure sensors placed at predetermined axial locations along the pipe 12. The pressure sensors provide acoustic pressure signals, which are provided to a signal processing system that determines the speed of sound amix of the fluid (or mixture) in the pipe 12 using acoustic spatial array signal processing techniques. Numerous spatial array processing techniques may be employed to determine the speed of sound amix. The speed of sound amix is provided to another logic system that calculates the percent composition of the mixture, e.g., water fraction, or any other parameter of the mixture or fluid which is related to the sound speed amix. The signal processing system may also determine the Mach number Mx of the fluid. The acoustic pressure signals measured are lower frequency (and longer wavelength) signals than those used for ultrasonic flow meters, and thus are more tolerant to inhomogeneities in the flow.

  • Patent number: 6862930
Abstract: In a thermal-type air flow measuring apparatus, a heater is set to a reference temperature which is a predetermined temperature higher than an intake air temperature detector. A flow amount detector is disposed at an upstream side of the heater with respect to a forward direction of an intake air flow. The heater is turned at a plurality of points in a direction perpendicular to the forward direction of the intake air flow and has a predetermined width in the intake air flow direction so that heat transfers less in the intake air flow direction in the heater. If the intake air flow direction reverses, the temperature distribution in the heater also reverses. As a result, an intake air amount varying in response to the air flow direction is detected by comparing the temperature of the flow amount detector with the reference temperature.

Abstract: A sampler for collecting vertically continuous media samples from aggregate liquid filtering systems. The sampler includes a sample collecting lower section have an inner member rotatably carried within an outer member. These lower members have slots which may be aligned by relative rotation of the members. An upper extension section has inner and outer members which are releasably coupled to the lower inner and outer members. The extension section has handles which allow manual rotation of the inner members relative to the outer members. The handles are used to insert the sampler into an aggregate bed, open the slots to collect a sample, close the slots and remove the sampler from the bed.

Abstract: A non-destructive plastic butt weld inspection method in which the weld bead 42 is removed from an exterior surface of a weld zone region 44 of a butt weld and the weld zone region 44 is heated to a temperature sufficient to visualize the weld zone 44. After heating, defective joints are readily identified by the appearance of a bond line 40 in the weld zone 44 while satisfactory joints merely show the weld zone 44 with no evidence of a bond line 40. Surface irregularities such as ridges 46 and indentations 48 may also form in the weld zone during the heating step.
