Abstract: A vertical support beam is removably mounted flush against a wall between the ceiling and the floor in the interior of a dwelling structure. The beam is relatively thin, and is formed from a material, such as wood, to receive nails and screws for mounting common household objects such as mirrors and pictures directly to the beam and not the wall, to prevent damage to the wall. The outer surface of the beam is finished to blend in with the wall so that the beam is aesthetically pleasing in appearance in its operative position. The beam is not attached directly to the wall, the ceiling or the floor of the dwelling, and can be installed and removed without causing any permanent damage to these surfaces.

Abstract: The present invention comprises a metal frame system wherein each frame member has one or more integral adjusters configured for selective extension from the frame member in a direction that is perpendicular to the length of the member. Each adjuster comprises a support bar or member having a threaded central passage aligned with a bolt hole through the frame member. The adjuster also comprises a pair of concentric tubes including a hollow outer tube and a fully threaded inner tube. The outer tube is positioned between the bar and the front edge and is spot welded to the bar. The inner tube is welded to a large washer providing a bearing surface and positioned behind the bar and is threaded through the central threaded bar passage. By rotating the inner threaded tube, the large washer is selectively positioned behind the bar a distance which may be adjusted.

  • Publication number: 20050081474
Abstract: A joint assembly comprises a hollow extrusion member of an asymmetrical hexagonal section and a flange casting comprising a base flange and several webs including a top web and upper side webs which have joint faces presented to corresponding joint areas on the outside of the extrusion while a bottom web and lower side webs have joint faces which are presented to corresponding joint areas on the inside of the extrusion. To assemble the joint assembly an adhesive is applied to the joint faces and the extrusion aligned with the flange casting but offset vertically. The extrusion is then moved longitudinally towards the flange casting to the full extent permitted by abutment of an extrusion end face with steps to bring the joint faces into overlapping alignment with the corresponding joint areas on the extrusion, there being a substantial clearance due to the vertical offset so that the adhesive on the joint faces does not contact the joint areas on the extrusion at this stage.

  • Publication number: 20050081477
Abstract: A structural element (1, 20, 30, 40) comprises a web (2) extending between a pair of flanges (3, 4). The areas of particular structural importance are the portions (5, 6) of the web and flanges adjacent to the junction between the web and the flanges. Material is gathered into these structurally important areas of an otherwise thin component. This is achieved by providing a plurality of small ribs (10) to absorb the material in these structurally important areas (5, 6). The ribs (10) are on a pitch of 2 to 8 times the wall thickness t. The pitch is approximately the same as a typical self drilling, self tapping fastener to prevent skating of the fastener, on fixing. The ribs (10) are of a depth of between 1.5t and 3.0t, where t is the metal thickness. These parameters ensure that in terms of fixing, the ribs allow a fastening screw to be used and to perform in the same manner as with a flat faced flange or web.

Abstract: The new technology introduced in this process is the innovative combination of equipment, tool and plumbing, that is, providing “point of contact” water spray, while complying with other provisions of EPA and OSHA required procedures, including training. Combining existing technologies in a new and innovative technique which will reduce worker exposures to health and safety hazards as well as satisfy the environmental concerns generally associated with this procedure, represents a cutting edge enhancement of an existing industry practice. Mechanical removal in the past violated the “no visible emissions” and the OSHA requirement to maintain material in a wet condition. Manual removal introduces significant worker health and safety issues.

Abstract: The invention pertains to a conveyor with profiled cheeks consisting of at least one profiled member that is manufactured from light metal and contains longitudinal hollow spaces that are partly realized in the form of sliding block channels, and of a cover for closing a cable channel arranged in the cheek. The invention proposes that the profiled member has an L-shaped base cross section with an upper limb that points outward in the operative position, that a sheet metal member is mounted on the base part in order to form the lower limb of the C-shaped base cross section of the cheek, wherein said sheet metal member contains openings that are spaced apart from one another in the longitudinal direction, and that the cover is removably arranged on the two limbs. Abstract: Particle traps are often used to reduce particulate emissions from internal combustion engines to acceptable levels. In order to maintain the particulate traps, they must be periodically regenerated in order to burn off the trapped particles. Strategies for efficiently regenerating the particle traps have been elusive. The present invention separates the exhaust flow into several flow paths. During regeneration, the flow paths are sequentially partially closed, and the particle traps in each of the flow paths are individually regenerated using electrically conductive filter elements. The present invention can be used to effectively filter particles from any combustion process, especially exhaust from internal combustion engines. The particle trap assembly achieves a relatively low pressure loss and efficient regeneration by supplying an oxidizer via a small cross-flow passage.

The flow of oil to the components (18) is controlled by recirculating a proportion of the oil flow through a bypass (20). The bypass (20) regulates the flow of oil to the components (18) so that the amount of heat transferred to the fuel in the heat exchanger (16) is controlled. At low engine powers a greater proportion of the oil flows through the bypass (20) to reduce the oil flow to the components (18). This reduces the heat transferred to the fuel in the heat exchanger (16) and so prevents overheating of the fuel.

Abstract: A combined-cycle engine having at least one core engine and at least one ramjet engine. The ramjet utilizes a novel swirl generator for rapidly and efficiently atomizing, vaporizing, as necessary, and mixing a fuel into an oxidant. The swirl generator converts an oxidant flow into a turbulent, three-dimensional flowfield into which the fuel is introduced. The swirl generator effects a toroidal outer recirculation zone and an inner central recirculation zone, both of which are configured in a backward-flowing manner that carries heat and combustion byproducts upstream where they are employed to continuously ignite a combustible fuel/oxidizer mixture in adjacent shear layers, which accelerate flame propagation throughout the core flowfield. The swirl generator provides smooth combustion with no instabilities and minimum total pressure losses and enables significant reductions in the L/D ratio of the combustor.

Abstract: A controller for an internal combustion engine that accurately diagnoses heating control of a catalytic device as having or not having an abnormality. The controller increases speed of the engine during engine idle to accelerate heating of the catalytic device with exhaust gas discharged from the engine. The controller obtains a total intake air amount by adding up the amount of air that has been supplied to the engine in a predetermined period during execution of the heating control. The controller determines that the heating control has an abnormality when the total intake air amount is less that a total air amount determination value.

Abstract: An exhaust system for an internal combustion engine having a first cylinder and a second cylinder from which pulses of exhaust gas exit and are routed along separate paths towards the exhaust mufflers. The exhaust system independently routes the pulses of exhaust gas from the two cylinders. The exhaust gases that are expelled from the first cylinder are routed through a first exhaust pipe. The exhaust gases that are expelled from the second cylinder are routed through a second exhaust pipe assembly. The second exhaust pipe assembly routes the exhaust gasses from an exhaust port for the second cylinder laterally across the motorcycle to achieve a true dual exhaust system. The second exhaust pipe assembly provides an approximate equal length flow path as compared to the path used by the exhaust gasses that are expelled from the first cylinder.
