Abstract: A frame attaching process is described. The frame attaching process is adapted for attaching a transparent substrate to an active area of a chip using a frame, wherein the active area of the chip has a functional area. In the frame attaching process, the frame can be formed on the attaching surface of the transparent substrate or on the active area of the chip. Then, the attaching surface of the transparent substrate is attached to the active area of the chip using the frame under a negative pressure. Finally, the frame is solidified. Therefore, in the frame attaching process, the possibility of frame cracking can be reduced and the yield of the frame attaching process can be improved.

Abstract: A technique for providing a grid for a gate such as utilized in gating a stream of ions or other particles in a spectrometer instrument. The grid of wires may, for example, be a so-called Bradbury-Nielson Gate that consists of a set of two electrically isolated sets of equally spaced wires that lie substantially in the same plane and alternate in potential. The method utilized to provide is to first fabricate a frame of an insulating substrate having a hole and depositing metal film patterns such that conductive portions are formed on either side of the hole. Conductive portions on either side form a series of terminating pads on the portion of the substrate closest to the hole and a bus bar. Grid wires are then formed by stretching a section of wire with desired constant tension across the hole and bonding the ends of the wire to a respective one of the pads on one side and bus bar on the other side. The method provides a rapid, inexpensive way to fabricate such modulating devices.

Abstract: Spring structures are subjected to pre-release and post-release annealing to tune their tip height to match a specified target. Post-release annealing increases tip height, and pre-release annealing decreases tip height. The amount of tuning is related to the annealing temperature and/or time. Annealing schedules are determined for a pre-fabricated cache of unreleased spring structures such that finished spring structures having a variety of target heights can be economically produced by releasing/annealing the cache according to associated annealing schedules. Selective annealing is performed using lasers and heat absorbing/reflecting materials. Localized annealing is used to generate various spring structure shapes. Both stress-engineered and strain-engineered spring structures are tuned by annealing.

Abstract: Patent Method for manufacturing improved contact surfaces, particularly contact surfaces in rolling bearing components such as rings or rolling bodies, is disclosed. The method subjects a surface of the rolling bearing component to a hard turning machining operation for forming by means of a hard turning tool a rolling or sliding contact surface. The hard turned surface is subjected to a finishing operation to remove the basic turning groove structure in a light machining way such that micro-pockets created in the hard turning operation remain. The hard turning tool during the hard turning machining operation is subjected to a vibration, substantially in the longitudinal direction of the tool, thereby creating in a controlled manner in the hard-turned surface a number of indentations, which are substantially arc-shaped in cross-sectional direction, prior to the finishing operation. Indentations improve lift-off and lubricating properties during later operation of the rolling bearing.

Abstract: There is disclosed a power tool comprising a housing (3), a motor provided in the housing and having a rotary output shaft, a reciprocating output shaft adapted to be caused by the motor to execute reciprocating motion to actuate a blade assembly, and a handle assembly (2, 102) comprising a front handle (6, 106) and a rear handle (7, 107) integral with the front handle. The handle assembly (2, 102) is pivotably mounted to the housing of the power tool and is adapted to be fixed in a plurality of orientations relative to the housing. By providing a handle assembly with integrally formed front and rear handles that is pivotable relative to the body of the power tool, this provides the advantage of avoiding the need for a user to hold the tool upside down when using the blade assembly to perform high-up horizontal cutting, instead of holding the tool above the user's head.

Abstract: A handle assembly for a power tool is disclosed, in which the power tool has a housing, a motor provided in the housing, and an output shaft adapted to be caused by said motor to actuate a working member extending from the housing along a first axis (A-A). The handle assembly (102) comprises a front handle (106), a rear handle (107) integral with the front handle, and a mounting portion adapted to be mounted to the housing of the tool, wherein the front handle (106) forms an obtuse angle with the axis (A-A) of the working member in use. This last feature makes the power tool more comfortable for a user to operate, provided that the centre of mass of the power tool lies in the region between the front handle (106) and the rear handle (107). This will usually be the case, since the heaviest parts of the tool are generally the working member and the motor housing thereof.

Abstract: In a display device where a moving object is immersed in a fluid filling a transparent sealed, vesel (72) and is rotated by an internal electrical mechanism that derives it power from a photo cell (128) and its counter torque from an internal compass (140), the index of refraction of the fluid is adjusted by addition of water to match the index of refraction of the vesel material. The formula of the fluid is also tailored to minimize, absorption of ambient moisture into the vessel. In one embodiment of the electrical spinning mechanism, the magnet acts both as a biasing compass and as a magnetic field generator for the motor. In a second embodiment of the spinning mechanism, the stator is constituted by a multipole ring-shaped magnet (120) that does not interfere with the operation of the biasing compass magnet (140). Multiple windings in the electrical spinning mechanism are energized through a split-ring and brush commutator (92) that use the mechanism shaft (122) as conductor.
