Abstract: An extractor structure including a thread rod, a driving unit and an activating unit. A differential nut is rotatably disposed in the driving unit. The thread rod is screwed through the differential nut. The driving unit has several extension arms. The activating unit is disposed under the driving unit and includes a threaded seat and a connecting seat. The connecting seat is pivotally connected with the extension arms of the driving unit. The thread rod is screwed through the threaded seat. The threaded seat has several outward extending fixing arms interlaced with the extension arms of the driving unit. An outer end of each fixing arm is pivotally connected with a claw. An activating arm is pivotally connected with a middle section of the claw and pivotally connected with each connecting arm of the connecting seat.

Abstract: A self-piercing rivet setting apparatus (9) comprises a punch (14) and a die (18) for driving a self-piercing rivet into a plurality of workpieces including a receiving-side workpiece adjacent to the die. The self-piercing rivet has a large-diameter head and a hollowed leg. The leg is driven to pierce the workpieces while allowing the front end of the leg to be expanded and deformed in its radial outward direction and to be stayed in the receiving-side workpiece without passing therethrough, to connect the plurality of workpieces with each other by the expanded leg and the head. The die includes a first die member (26) having a first cavity (25), and a second die member (30) having a second cavity (27) and a protruding pin (29) provided at the center of the second cavity. The first cavity is adapted to allow the leg of the self-piercing to be driven into the workpieces in a straight direction when the self-piercing rivet is pressed by the punch (14).

Abstract: Electromagnetic (EMF) trimming, flanging and hemming steps are performed at a single workstation in a combined fixture designed to form a hemmed panel assembly, such as a vehicle closure panel. Two or more formed sheets, outer and inner panels, are positioned together for hemming. The panels are clamped and EMF coils are activated to provide EMF force to retain the panels and trim off excess addendum material from the outer panel. The coils are then activated to bend the trimmed edge upward against a flanging member and form a 90 degree flange. Flanging and trimming members are retracted and a coil member positions EMF hemming coils opposite the flange. The hemming coils are then activated and apply EMF force to bend the flange of the outer panel to a 180 degree angle, overlaying the edge of the inner panel and forming a panel assembly having a hemmed edge. Optionally, if needed, the flanging member is then lowered against the flange to assure flatness of the hem.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods are disclosed for applying electromagnetic force (EMF) to flanging and hemming metal panels to form a hemmed panel assembly. First and second apparatus and method steps use a translating EMF coil to flange a sheet and to finish a hem by progressive non-planar bending. An alternate embodiment uses EMF hemming for difficult-to-hem portions of a flange and optionally precedes this with conventional hemming of straight hem portions.

Abstract: Especially for increasing the process security and reliability of permanent connections between overlapping materials, a method is suggested for permanently joining overlapping plate-shaped parts, particularly metal sheets, by producing an undercut between the parts in a deforming manner, the method comprising the following steps: disposing the parts to be joined between a protrusion of a punch tool and a support area of a counter-tool, forming a temporary elevation on the side of the parts that faces the counter-tool, by pressing the punch protrusion into the parts to be joined against the support area at least until the parts rise from the support area outside the forming elevation, and forming an undercut in the parts by flattening the elevation between punch tool and counter-tool by the punch tool further approaching the counter-tool. Furthermore, a device is suggested for carrying out said method.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a multilayered gas sensor element including plural thin layers is provided. The method comprises applying, onto a substrate in a pattern, a dispersion of nano-particles of a desired type of material in a dispersion medium along with a dispersant to provide a thin green layer of the nano-particles, repeating the above procedure using a different type of material until a desired number of green layers necessary for making a sensing unit on the substrate are stacked on the substrate, and sintering the stacked green layers at one time or one by one after formation of a green layer.

Abstract: A method of making an integrated texture sensor for sensing a texture is described. In one embodiment, the method is directed to a sensor that that is protected from external contaminating particulates and will self-equalize using air from outside the sensor. Further combinations of such protection among various membrane switches, in combination with various types of membranes, is described. In another embodiment, a method of making a skin-texture sensor for sensing a skin texture having a plurality of ridges and a plurality of valleys is described, such that when completed, applying a ridge of the texture to a membrane switch will cause flexure of the membrane resulting in a contact between the lower electrode and the upper electrode, the contact establishing an electrical communication between said one of the row lines and said one of the column lines, whereas disposing a valley of the texture over said each membrane switch will not result in the contact between the lower electrode and the upper electrode.
