Abstract: Scanners and hinges thereof are provided. A hinge includes a first pivot portion, a second pivot portion, and a connecting portion. The first pivot portion is disposed on the cover. The second pivot portion is elastic, and is pivoted at the first pivot portion. The connecting portion is connected to the second pivot portion, and is disposed in the body. The cover rotates between a first angle and a second angle with respect to the connecting portion. When an angle intersected by the cover and the connecting portion exceeds a critical angle, the second pivot portion is separated from the first pivot portion by means of the elasticity of the second pivot portion.

Abstract: A hinge (10) that is arranged to be self-closing by the provision of two inter-engaged parts that are pivotable relative to one another, by each part including a respective barrel portion (30, 50), the two barrel portions (30, 50) being coaxially and end-to-end. Juxtaposed ends of the barrel portions (30, 50) each have a respective cam insert (35) therein. The cam inserts (35) are arranged such that an axial compressive force acting through the axis of the hinge (10) causes the hinge (10) to close. One of the barrel portions (50) is extended and has a damper (72) positioned therein. The damper (72) dampens relative axial movement of the two parts of the hinge (10). Thus, a door mounted on the hinge (10) in a door frame has its movement damped and tends not to slam closed.

Abstract: There are disclosed methods of and apparatus for interconnecting lined metal pipes (110, 120), applying in particular to the offshore oil and gas industry. Corrosion is a common problem in the industry. Lining pipes overcomes the problem, but welding sections of pipe together can be a complicated and time-consuming task, requiring dedicated and sophisticated tooling. More desirable is the ability to use conventional pipe-laying equipment (20, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90) with little additional tooling. As such, there are disclosed methods and apparatus compatible with known offshore connection methods, particularly where the spacing of joints on the pipe is less than 100 m. The chosen technique will not significantly impact the laying rate of the lined pipe, compared with unlined pipe.

When the pivot is rotated, the pin enters the first channel, which is parallel to the direction of rotation of the pivot. The pivot may then slide in an elongated pivot channel, causing the pin to depart the first receiving channel and lock into the second receiving channel. The distance between the pivot and the pin and channels provides a greater lever arm to absorb torque, and the combination of two pin receiving channels allows the device to more securely lock into place.

Abstract: The invention relates to a cutting member (7) for use in a device for shaving hair. The cutting member comprises a meal substrate (15) which is provided with a cutting edge (9). At least a portion of the substrate including the cutting edge is provided with a protective coating (19). According to the invention the coating (19) comprises a plurality of stacked pairs (21) of layers, wherein each pair of layers comprises a first layer (23) mainly comprising carbon (C) and a second layer (25) mainly comprising a metal, and wherein each pair of layers has a thickness (TP) between 1 and 10 nm. The second layer preferably comprises Cr, Nb, Mo, Ti, V, or W. As a result, the coating has a superlattice structure which provides the coating with physical properties which are superior to the properties of the individual materials of the layers. In an embodiment wherein the second layer comprises Cr and each pair (21) of layers has a thickness of 1.

Abstract: A cutting tool is provided for preventing dust intrusion into a guide member effectively as well as cooling a housing, thereby maintaining an excellent operability. A cutting tool has a body housing including an upper housing and a lower housing. In front of a flange portion of the lower housing, right-and-left air outlets are provided. At the front end of the lower housing, right-and-left second guiding ports are provided. Further, between an insulating cover and the lower housing, clearances which allow the outlets and the second guiding ports to communicate with each other are provided. Therefore, when the insulating cover is placed, an air passage is formed in which cooling air discharged from the air outlets moves to the front passing through the clearances, and flows into a space as the junction through the second guiding ports to be discharged to the front.

Abstract: This invention is used for creating straight marks along floor coverings to guarantee that they can be cut perfectly to the dimensions of the area. The template has two straight edges that function as rulers. Both of these edges are hinged and are parallel to each other. The hinges allow the tool to be adjusted to fit and mark any area. In the center, between the hinged bars, there is a pencil holding plate that holds the scribing tool. This pencil is held in place by an adjustable wing nut enabling the pencil to be manipulated as necessary. Alternatively, in the second embodiment, the center plate may include graduated holes for accepting the pencil. Finally, the entire apparatus includes rolling wheels, allowing it to easily move along edges and mark the floor coverings.
