Abstract: A system and method is provided for a cement building which may utilize cement floor panels, cement wall panels, cement roof panels, cement joist panels, and cement roof support panel. Although each type of cement panel will vary in construction depending on the function, preferably each panel comprises a synthetic foam core and a cement outer shell. Molds may be utilized at the building site or offsite to create the panels which are then secured together to form the building. Once a panel is raised, it is substantially complete thereby reducing time required to complete the building. Floor panels may comprise an internal cement arch to provide a sturdy panel that provides a sturdy support for loads placed thereon.

  • Publication number: 20050247013
Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacturing reinforced wall panels and reinforced roof panels and using the pre-manufactured reinforced wall and roof panels in the construction of a building structure at a building site. The reinforced wall and roof panels are molded using a molding medium consisting of two part polyurethane which is mixed with Portland cement. Reinforcing members and exterior weather resistant materials are placed within a mold and the mold is filled with the molding medium by injection or by pouring. The filled mold is then placed within a press to ensure against expansion by internal pressure caused by curing of the molding medium, thus ensuring dimensional accuracy of the finished panel. After hardening of the molding medium, the mold is removed from the press, opened and the finished panel is removed from the mold and is stored until the molding medium has completely cured. The reinforcing members and weather resistant material constitute integral components of the building panel structure.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for replacing a pole in an electrical utility support structure while the supported electrical wires remain energized. The method comprises erecting a replacement pole adjacent to a pole to be replaced, and providing a pivotable support arm on the replacement pole so that it will be engageable with the cross arm support carrying the electrical wires of the utility support structure. The support arm is adapted to lift and support the cross arm, whereupon the replaced pole may be disengaged from the cross arm and removed. A guy wire provides support for maintaining the load weight of the cross arm laterally on the replacement pole. The guy wire helps to transfer the supported load centrally on the replacement pole to prevent the supported weight from causing the replacement pole to lean. Mounting brackets are provided for attachment to the replacement pole which provide a base for connection and pivoting of the support arm.

Abstract: An external jet nozzle mixer includes identically formed lobes. The external mixer works with the internal mixer further to mix the engine internal bypass flow with the internal jet engine core flow to level the disparate flow velocities, to reduce the peak velocities from the jet engine core and increase the lower bypass velocities of the engine internal bypass flow, and thereby reduce noise. The internal lobe contours act as lifting flutes, causing mixing of the primary hot and cold flows to mix before exiting the nozzle. The external lobe contours act as venturi chutes, accelerating the cooler ambient secondary air flow. The lobes thus act collectively as an injector to force the cooler ambient secondary flow into the previously mixed primary flow as it exits the nozzle. Also obtained is an increased thrust efficiency and a consequently decreased fuel consumption and engine emissions.

Abstract: The invention relates to systems for removing NOx from exhaust. In one aspect of the invention, after adsorption, an NOx adsorber is isolated from the main exhaust flow and desorption induced by raising the temperature. The desorbed NOx is combined with a reductant and reduced over a catalyst. Preferably, the reductant is syn gas produced in an on-board reformer. The catalyst need never be exposed to the main exhaust flow, which is particularly advantageous for catalysts sensitive to water, oxygen, or sulfur. In another aspect of the invention, a recirculating flow is induced through an NOx adsorber during a regeneration cycle. Recirculation can induce greater desorption at a given temperature, provide a source of heat for the adsorber, and allow a higher conversion rate with a fixed amount of catalyst. A further aspect of the invention relates to a vehicle-mounted adsorbers with provisions for heating.

Abstract: One aspect of the invention relates to a device for storing ammonia for use in SCR on board a vehicle. The device comprises an adsorption bed with a high capacity for storing ammonia. The device can be designed to hold a long-lasting charge of ammonia comparable to a urea tank, but will not release substantial amounts of ammonia into the environment even if the device is accidentally ruptured. In one embodiment, the devices are charged at stationary locations. In another embodiment, the devices are charged by vehicle-mounted ammonia synthesis plants. The device facilitate the use of small ammonia synthesis plants that operate at low pressures and give low conversions. Preferably, the devices are operated through temperature swing adsorption.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an engine exhaust treatment system (20) including a first exhaust gas path (24) having a diesel particulate filter (32) and a second exhaust gas path (26) having a catalytic converter (34). The system also includes a valve arrangement (36, 38), for controlling exhaust gas flow between the first and second paths (24, 26). The system (20) further includes a controller (40) for sensing/monitoring operating conditions of the engine (22) and the condition of the diesel particulate filter (32). The controller (40) shifts exhaust gas flow between the first and second paths (24, 26) based on the operating condition of the engine (22) and/or the condition of the diesel particulate filter (32) to optimize filtration efficiency while preventing unacceptable levels of backpressure and detrimental regeneration of the filter (32).

Abstract: An exhaust emission control device includes a plurality of means for removing particulates accumulated in a particulate filter. A temperature increasing means increases a temperature of the particulate filter. A temperature estimating means estimates the temperature of the particulate filter. A particulate accumulation quantity estimating means estimates a quantity of accumulated particulates. A temperature increase quantity controlling means controls a temperature increase to an output of the temperature estimating means when the quantity of accumulated particulates exceeds a predetermined value. A time ratio computing means computes a time ratio between performance and interruption of a temperature increasing operation. A base period computing means computes a period that becomes a base of the time ratio such that the period varies as required. A switching means switches between performance and interruption of the temperature increasing operation based on the time ratio and the period that becomes the base.

Abstract: A renewable energy power generating plant is disclosed. It uses the renewable energy of fluids according to Archmedes Principale. It includes a liquid-filled pool, an endless chain looping around lower and upper cogwheels, containers attached to chain links receiving compressed air in the bottom of the pool, gas under pressure from black smokers in the sea bottom, or highly compressed natural gas using only its excess pressure. The ascending containers are propelled by a growing buoyant force during their ascent. According to Boyle's law, the volume of compressed gas injected into each ascending container expands and displaces an increasing quantity of liquid at shallower depths due to lower pressures. The weight of the liquid displaced by gas in ascending containers creates a steady torque on the axle of the upper cogwheel. The resultant rotation is transformed into an abundant source of energy adaptable to a wide range of applications.

Abstract: The invention is a system and method for smoothly starting and controlling an ORC power plant. The system comprises a cascaded closed loop control that accounts for the lack of relationship between pump speed and pressure at startup so as to control pump speed and pressure, and that smoothly transitions into a steady state regime as a stable operating condition of the system is attained. The cascaded loop receives signals corresponding to a superheat setpoint, a pressure at an evaporator exit, and a temperature at an evaporator exit, and controls the pump speed and pressure upon startup to provide smooth operation. The system and method can further comprise a feed-forward control loop to deal with conditions at start-up and when external disturbances are applied to the ORC power plant.

The embodiment described is an ORC power plant having a motor-generator in mechanical communication with a turbine. The motor-generator is operated with open windings (e.g., freewheeling) by driving the turbine with a variable speed pump. The rotational speed of the motor-generator is sensed.
