Abstract: A walk-behind self-propelled apparatus having a mobile structure and a handle assembly coupled to the mobile structure. The handle assembly includes a pair of grip portions. A ground engaging traction member is rotatably coupled to the mobile structure and imparts traction movement to the mobile structure for movement on the ground. A power source outputs drive power and a drive system, coupled between the power source and the ground engaging traction member, selectively transmits the drive power to the ground engaging traction member. A speed control actuation system is then coupled to the drive system and includes a control member pivotable about an axis. The axis is generally parallel to a plane extending between the pair of grip portions of the handle assembly to permit an operator to operate the control member merely through thumb actuation without removing their hands from the pair of grip portions.

  • Publication number: 20050257520
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for operating a compressor in the intake section of an internal combustion engine, in particular of a motor vehicle. A state variable which describes the behavior of the compressor, for example the frequency and/or amplitude of the intake air flow, is monitored. If the state variable exceeds or drops below at least one predefined or predefinable limiting value, intervention is carried out in a regulating and/or controlling fashion. A particularly simple way of implementing this method is obtained in that an output signal, generated for regulating and/or controlling the internal combustion engine, of an air flow sensor which is arranged in the intake tract is used as the state variable.

Abstract: The invention is a positive displacement heat engine; where the engine cycle comprises the steps of Ericsson (isothermal) compression, recuperative heat addition, Brayton (adiabatic) expansion, and recuperative heat removal; whose principle is heat addition to the cycle by an afterburner in which fuel is burned with the low pressure air working fluid exhausted by the expander. The resulting combustion gases are used in a counterflow heat exchange recuperator to continually heat the high pressure air compressed by the compressor. All moving parts are only exposed to clean air, and the expander valves can be operated at temperatures comparable to current internal combustion engines. Liquid, solid or gaseous fuels can be used and control of speed and power is simple, based on keeping engine temperatures constant. The low-pressure continuous combustion avoids fuel pressurization problems and allows high efficiency, low emission combustion processes.

A first compressor is adapted to be mechanically driven by the engine and is in fluid communication from the evaporator and in fluid communication to the condenser. A second compressor is electrically connected to and driven by the battery bank and is in fluid communication from the evaporator and in fluid communication to the condenser. Each of the compressors is selectively operable to compress refrigerant in the HVAC system during operation of the HVAC system.

Abstract: After a vehicle system is actuated, a mode command unit determines that an auxiliary battery is cleared. Determining that the auxiliary battery is cleared because of loss of stored information of backup RAM, the mode command unit outputs a cooling mode command signal SI specifying a prescribed cooling mode to a fan circuit, and starts measuring a prescribed time with a timer. The fan circuit drives a fan motor with a prescribed cooling mode and detects a number of rotations of the fan motor to transmit to the mode command unit as a fan output signal. The mode command unit detects a failure of a cooling fan from a comparison result of the fan output signal and the specified prescribed cooling mode. The timer senses a lapse of the prescribed time, and the failure detection ends.

Abstract: A vehicular air conditioner includes a reversible heat pump having an air distribution fan positioned upstream of an indoor heat exchanger, a coolant heat exchanger positioned downstream of the indoor heat exchanger, and a damper arranged adjacent to a coolant heat exchanger. An engine cooling water system is connected to the coolant heat exchanger. A subassembly is used for positioning the damper in the fully opened condition such that the coolant heat exchanger is made an air intake flow path in addition to an air flow path of an air bypass space during a cooling operation. The engine cooling water system includes a coolant bypass valve connected between a primary side flow path and a secondary side flow path for engine cooling water to bypass the coolant heat exchanger. When the damper fully opens a full quantity of the engine cooling water flows to the secondary side flow path.

Abstract: A desiccant-assisted air conditioning system utilizes a compressor (10), a condenser coil (11), an evaporator coil (13), supplemental desiccant coils (19, 20) connected therewith, and damper (18A, 19B) and valve arrangements that direct air and refrigerant through the system coils in several different thermodynamic operating paths. The system combines, transfers and reverses thermodynamic energies between the desiccant, the refrigerant and the crossing air, and simultaneously maximizes the refrigerant vapor compression closed cycle and desiccant vapor compression open cycle. The desiccant coils (19, 20) not only provide an effective gas phase change in their crossing air streams, but also simultaneously provide endothermic and exothermic energy exchanges between the air streams and the passing refrigerant that maximize the operating efficiency of the compressor, condenser coil, and evaporator coil, conserves energy, and produces quality conditioned air output.
