Abstract: A hinge apparatus allows a door to be opened from either the left or right side. The apparatus has a guide member defining an guide channel that interacts with a hinge pin. Preferably, the hinge pin is attached to the door and the guide member is attached to a frame having an opening that is covered by the door. The hinge pin can slide along the guide channel like a latch pin or rotate within the channel like a conventional hinge pin.

Abstract: A replaceable cover for a handle in public use, comprising a soft, molded elastomeric membrane of thickness in the range 0.01 to 0.25 inch impregnated with an antimicrobial agent, that is sufficiently flexible to be stretched over and snugly form fit and self-retained on the handle without adhesive. The membrane can be a thin, hollow shell that is open at one end and has three mutually orthogonal axes on respective mutually orthogonal planes. The membrane forms a surface that is traceable as a substantially continuously curved line in each of these planes from a fixed center within the shell, spanning at least about 270 degrees about the center. The invention is also directed to the combination of a handle having a body and a rigidly projecting rotatable stem, with a replaceable, stretchable, elastomeric cover impregnated with an antimicrobial agent that is snugly form fit onto the body over at least about 65% and preferably at least 75% of the surface area of the body.

Abstract: The device to hold a bag open is a strap that is formed into an expandable loop that is placed into the mouth of a bag and expanded to keep the mouth of the bag open by tension. The strap is formed from a flexible, resilient material that is either straight or arcuate in its relaxed state. A plurality of ratchet teeth are disposed at one end of the strap and a spring-biased clasp is attached to the opposite end of the strap. A button or lever on the clasp is pushed to release a pawl on the clasp so that the toothed end can be inserted through the clasp and drawn far enough through the clasp so that the diameter of the loop is small enough to fit into the mouth of the bag. The resiliency of the strap material urges the strap to return to its straight or relaxed state, thereby exerting tension against the mouth of the bag to keep the bag mouth open.

Abstract: A piezo-electric film forming method includes (1) a first moving step of moving a nozzle with respect to a substrate along a first direction to form a first piezo-electric band extending along the first direction, (2) a measuring step of measuring thickness distribution along the width of the first piezo-electric band, (3) a calculating step of calculating a shifting distance based on the thickness distribution, (4) a shifting step of moving the nozzle with respect to the substrate along a second direction by the calculated shifting distance, wherein the second direction intersects with the first direction, and (5) a second moving step of moving the nozzle with respect to the substrate along the first direction to form a second piezo-electric band extending along the first direction. The piezo-electric film is formed such that the first piezo-electric band and the second piezo-electric band are overlapped.

Abstract: To optimize the results of rounding and therefore to optimize the high pressure resistance of the component, it is firstly proposed that prior to the machining step of hydro-erosive rounding, the edge (5) and the surfaces (4, 6) of the high pressure-resistant component (1) which adjoin the edge (5) are each placed under compressive stresses in the region of their surface by means of a grinding and/or honing process. Also with regard to the method, and with regard to an apparatus for the hydro-erosive rounding, it is proposed that a closure element (9) is inserted into the continuing first bore (2), downstream of the second bore (3), which branches off from the first bore, as seen in the main direction of flow (S) of the liquid (8) mixed with abrasives (7), in order to divert the liquid (8) mixed with abrasives (7) from the first bore (2) into the second bore (3).

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a mobile platform. The platform includes a structure and a member assembled to the structure. Further, the member has a first and a second surface with a thickness defined there between that is varied. The method includes leaving the member on the structure. Also, the method includes advancing a tool through the member while on the structure. The tool is stopped before the tool advances into the structure by more than about a first pre-selected tolerance. Also, a mobile platform assembly is provided that includes a structure, a member, and a fastener fastening the structure and member via a hole through the structure and assembly. The hole has a first diameter through the structure and a second diameter through the member, wherein the diameter changes within an acceptable depth range. In another preferred embodiment, a boroscope, adapted for inspecting holes having two diameters, is also provided.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a prosthetic socket having an access port that employs a housing with a cylindrical extension. The method includes the step of molding a shell over a socket model and a mold dummy to form an intermediate port. The method additionally includes the step of trimming the intermediate port along a trim line passing through a cavity defined by the mold dummy to create a circular opening in the shell. The mold dummy has a first diameter generally conforming to a diameter of the cylindrical extension of the housing. The method further includes the steps of passing the cylindrical extension through the opening and securing the access port to the shell.

Abstract: A handle structure of scissors provides ring handle parts being detachably fastened to the elongated stems of the scissors. Each of the ring handle part has a projection seat with a square shaped engaging hole. Each of the elongated stems has an axial hole corresponding to the engaging hole and the respective ring handle part can be fastened to the respective elongated stem with an engaging bolt respectively in company with an O shaped rubber ring, rubber washers and a nut. Hence, the ring handle parts can be rotated to any angular positions with respect to the elongated stems so as to allow the blades of the scissors being disposed at various inclining angles under a condition of keeping the fingers, palm and elbow being in a state of unmoving easily according to human engineering for a hand.

Abstract: A system of independently oriented sighting devices includes a first sighting device (120) and a second sighting device (110). Upon aligning a line of sight of the first sighting device (12) with a target object (130), the first sighting device transmits a reference signal over a communications link (140). The second sighting device (110) determines its orientation in space relative to the orientation of the first sighting device (120) from characteristics of the reference signal. Thus, absolute coordinates of the target object (130) need not be known by the second sighting device (110) nor is it required that they be transmitted by the first sighting device (120). The user (115) of the second sighting device is directed to rotate the second sighting device (110) towards the target object (130) via feedback through guidance indicators located in a viewing port (250) thereof.

Abstract: A mobile terminal apparatus 1 uses an acceleration sensor as a tilt angle sensor 24, and realizes various applications based on this detection result. A processing unit 10 counts the number of steps of a human based on acceleration components of low frequency detected by the tilt angle sensor that detects the acceleration components. At that time, the acceleration component of an axis among three axes which most approximates a gravity axis is mainly used. A viewpoint relative to a three-dimensional object or a three-dimensional space displayed on a display unit 36 is moved. By effectively utilizing the detection result of the tilt angle sensor, it is possible to realize a mobile terminal apparatus 1 featuring greater usefulness.
