Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and method for an adaptive machining and weld repair process useful for repairing airfoils, particularly damage to an airfoil leading edge and tip. The process first machines away damaged portions of an airfoil. Filler material is then added to the machined area through a process such as laser welding. At this point, the actual profile of the welded airfoil is measured using a Coordinate Measuring Machine. This data is then used to generate a “deformation” profile, an airfoil profile that approximates the ideal shape of the airfoil. The airfoil is then machined using the date of the deformation profile to produce that shape. The adaptive technology minimizes the amount of stock on material that needs to be removed by hand. The technique thereby significantly reduces costly manual processing.

Abstract: In the annealing step of the method for manufacturing a piezoelectric actuator, the annealing in conducted in two steps: a first annealing step; and a second annealing step conducted at a temperature lower and for a time longer than those of the first annealing step. With such treatment, first, grain growth inside the piezoelectric film can be sufficiently induced, while minimizing the diffusion layer growth, by the first annealing step conducted at a high temperature within a short interval, and then lattice defects in the particles can be sufficiently corrected, while preventing the diffusion layer growth, by the second annealing step conducted at a temperature lower and for a time longer than those of the first annealing step. Accordingly, the piezoelectric characteristic can be improved by sufficiently conducting annealing, while restricting the thickness of the diffusion layer to a range where the piezoelectric characteristic is not affected.

Abstract: Face enveloping gears are machined by face milling type cutting tool or gear shaper. This process includes the following steps: positioning of the cutting tool in tangential relation relative to the meshing enveloping pinion thread with face gear by the smallest pitch diameter of threads with face gear teeth; turning rotating cutter relative to axis of rotation of an imaginary enveloping wheel until generating tooth is on the outer circle of the face gear. For generation of enveloping pinion the complementary cutting tool has additional motion around axis of pinion rotation. In another method tooth shaper or helical hob rotating tool rotates around axis of rotation of a theoretical generating gear for enveloping pinion with a predetermined relative motion to axis of rotation of work gear. This reduces production cost and makes manufacturing easier.
