  • Patent number: 7065853
Abstract: A hex nut formed from cutting and deforming a rigid planar material and having an integral attachment surface continuous with the deformable planar material allows attachment of the hex nut to any suitable surface. A rigid planar material such as a piece of flat metal is cut according to a particular pattern. The particular pattern includes each of the sides of the hex nut and one or more attachment surfaces as a continuous shape. The flat metal is then deformed, or bent, along certain lines to form a hex nut, or other polygonal shaped object. The attachment surface or surfaces, which extend from the sides of the hex nut, are then secured to a surface of a rotatable object, such as by adhesion or spot welding, or other suitable methods. In this manner, the hex nut can be engaged by a receptacle such as a wrench for rotating the hex nut and consequently, the object which is attached through the attachment surface.

  • Patent number: 7065855
Abstract: The invention provides an installation tool for use with a battery operated drill or a corded electric drill for repetitive installation of caulk-in anchors. The installation tool utilizes the mechanical advantage of a threaded shaft to improve consistency of the holding reliability of the caulk-in anchor and controls the anchor setting process to insure proper installation while reducing installation time. The installation tool does not rely on bottom setting or a hammer strike to set the anchor, but can be set at a depth independent of hole depth. In one embodiment, the tool can be used with a through hole in the substrate and uses a combination of a threaded shaft and a controlled sensing spring to insure a more uniform installation of the anchor within the substrate across the entire length of the sleeve portion of the anchor, along with a visual check of proper setting of the anchor.

  • Patent number: 7065864
Abstract: There are provided a method and apparatus of component mounting capable of avoiding damage caused by production operations with a component holder having debris thereon. If it is determined during a detecting step of a component holding condition that a component is held by a component holder in an improper condition for mounting, the component holder releases such a component into a collecting box, and skips a pick up operation at a next round of a pick up station. The component holder is then subjected to confirming whether any debris exists by using, preferably, a condition sensor, and the component holder picks up a new component if it is confirmed that no debris exists. If debris is found during the confirming step, production operations are stopped, or a warning is generated. After maintenance of the component holder is completed, production operations are restarted.

Abstract: A calibration method for calibrating a parts-handling device with respect to a computer vision camera includes the steps of moving a parts-handling device into contact with a touch-off block, and storing a value indicative of the position of the parts-handling device when it is in contact with the touch-off block. In addition, there may be two orthogonal surface on the touch-off block. By touching the parts-handling device against both surfaces, the parts-handling device can be calibrated for position offset in two orthogonal directions. For parts-handling devices that are rotatable, the parts-handling device may be rotated to a succession of predetermined angular positions and brought into contact with the touch-off block in each position. By combining the measured positions of the parts-handling device in each rotational position, the system can be calibrated to compensate for the offset from the camera to the parts-handling device as a function of rotational position as well.

  • Patent number: 7065894
Abstract: An improved reticle frame structure surrounds the perimeter of a reticle substrate and contacts it at the edge with precision guidance surfaces as the reticle is lowered onto the device. In an embodiment, the reticle contacts conical sections that correct its position and orientation along the plane of its mask surface, and spherical surfaces to position the reticle at its standardized datum reference areas. Near the intersection of the X and Y reference planes, a minimal area of the reticle face comes to rest on a spherical mounting surface as far away from the reticle mask as possible. This surface completes a tripod of vertical support in conjunction with the cones, which maintain contact with the reticle edges only. Secondary and tertiary spherical support surfaces can be provided for vertical support of the other two lateral corners of the reticle face to mitigate reticle tilt while it is being lowered onto the tripod contact points.
