Abstract: In a sliver conveying and depositing device, the sliver is guided from the carder through a draw frame to a can coiler. A first deflection device mounted on the free end of a pivotable arm is arranged between the last driven roller pair of the draw frame and the can coiler. The sliver is guided across the first deflection device and the arm exerts a counter pressure onto the sliver for maintaining sliver tension. The first deflection device is displaceable for compensating the sliver length between first and second end positions, wherein signal transducers emit a signal when the first or second positions are reached. The speed of the can coiler drive is changed when a signal is received from the signal transducers, wherein a time interval elapsed since the last signal has been received from one of the signal transducers is taken into account for changing the speed.

Abstract: A hard bias (HB) structure for biasing a free layer in a MR sensor within a magnetic read head is comprised of a main biasing layer with a large negative magnetostriction (?S) value. Compressive stress in the device after lapping induces a strong in-plane anisotropy that effectively provides a longitudinal bias to stabilize the sensor. The main biasing layer is formed between two FM layers, and at least one AFM layer is disposed above the upper FM layer or below the lower FM layer. Additionally, there may be a Ta/Ni or Ta/NiFe seed layer as the bottom layer in the HB structure. Compared with a conventional abutted junction exchange bias design, the HB structure described herein results in higher output amplitude under similar asymmetry sigma and significantly decreases sidelobe occurrence. Furthermore, smaller MRWu with a similar track width is achieved since the main biasing layer acts as a side shield.

Abstract: A method for making a magnetoresistive read head so that the pinned ferromagnetic layer is wider than the stripe height of the free ferromagnetic layer uses ion milling with the ion beam aligned at an angle to the substrate supporting the stack of layers making up the read head. The stack is patterned with photoresist to define a rectangular region with front and back long edges aligned parallel to the read head track width. After ion milling in two opposite directions orthogonal to the front and back long edges, the pinned layer width has an extension. The extension makes the width of the pinned layer greater than the stripe height of the free layer after the substrate and stack of layers are lapped. The length of the extension is determined by the angle between the substrate and the ion beam and the thickness of the photoresist.

Abstract: The invention provides a method for simplifying manufacturing of electrical motors by making a sheet with a plurality of windings of a conductive wire. The sheet is rolled into a tubular body which is inserted into a tubular stator element made from a magnetically conductive material, and pressed into contact with an inner surface thereof. According to the invention, a part of an outer surface of a mandrel is covered with a non-adhesive layer and with an adhesive layer. Subsequently, a wire is coiled onto the mandrel in contact with the adhesive layer. Due to the non-adhesive layer, the coil may easily be removed from the mandrel, and due to the adhesive layer, the windings of the coil are kept in place during a subsequent flattening of the coil. Accordingly, disorder between the windings of the coil can be avoided and a motor with an improved capacity can be manufactured more easily.

Abstract: A modular heat exchanger suitable for automotive applications, and methods for forming the modular heat exchanger. The modular heat exchanger construction incorporates a monolithic brazed core assembly composed of flat-type cooling tubes and sinusoidal centers. The required positional tolerances of the tubes for mating with the remainder of the heat exchanger are maintained within the brazed core assembly by minimizing core shrinkage resulting from the brazing operation during which the tubes are brazed to the centers.

Abstract: A guard rail system fabricated from standard-sized components, preferably extruded, comprises balusters fastened to a lower rail and to an upper retainer at fixed intervals. The balusters are provided with central bores for receiving fasteners such as screws through predrilled holes in the upper retainer and lower rail. A hand rail is slip-fitted over the upper retainer in locking relation, to provide integrated guard rail sections. Guard rail sections so assembled are fastened to end posts, preferably using mounting brackets having a flanged arm which nests in grooves or recesses in the upper retainer and lower rail to provide a safe, secure and aesthetically appealing guard rail.

Abstract: A blade unit for a safety razor has a plurality of blades (7, 8, 9) with cutting edges (10, 11, 12) positioned between first guard and cap surfaces (26, 29) at an upper face of the unit, and a further blade (36) with a cutting edge (37) positioned between guard and cap surfaces (33, 34) at a rear face of the unit. The further blade at the rear face is intended for shaving skin areas, such as directly below the nostrils or in-front of the ears, to which access is restricted. A rinsing passage (35) connects a gap between the cutting edge (37) of the further blade (86) with an opening (38) at the bottom face of the blade unit for clearance of shaving debris and soap from the underside of the further blade (36) to the underside of the blade unit.

Abstract: A self-clearing grilling fork is provided wherein the a reciprocating clearing plate associated with tines of a grilling fork. This reciprocating clearing plate is activated by a spring loaded trigger mechanism in the pistol grip handle of the fork. The displacement of the trigger causes a rod, within the hollow tubular shaft of the fork, causes linear movement of the clearing plate relative to the tines on the end of the fork and thus displaces food and food residues from the tines on the end of the fork. In the preferred embodiments of this grilling fork a seal is provided within the hollow tubular shaft of the grilling fork to both facilitate relative movement of the rod with this shaft, and to otherwise seal the opening in the shaft to prevent food and debris associated with the cooking environment for entering into the shaft.

Abstract: The Ribbed Bar Angled Chisel Punch Set is a set of chisels designed with ribbed or textured handles so the user can grip the tool easier and better. The chisels are angled so that they can perform certain jobs and work in tight spots that ordinary straight shafted chisels cannot. The chisels have many functions. The chisels make it easier for the prying, cutting, punching, pulling and removing of small objects in a limited work space. The chisels in the set are all different and have flat tips, sharp tips, pointed tips, and blunt tips.

Abstract: A chain saw includes an engine, a chassis, and a clutch cover. A guide bar is adjustable relative to the chassis and the clutch cover, but stationary while in a secured position. An adjustment arrangement moves the guide bar to tension a chain, and includes a member operatively connected to the bar, intermeshed drive components to move the bar, and a manually engaged member that is operated without use of any tool. A guide bar securing arrangement has a knob rotatable between a tightened and loosened positions. In the loosened position, the guide bar may be adjusted. A knob handle of the securing arrangement is pivotable between a stowed position and an operation position. A lock arrangement, associated with the knob and knob handle, includes portions that cooperate to prevent the knob from rotating when the knob handle is in the stowed position.

Abstract: An omnidirectional torpedo level composed of non-ferrous material has a central web and parallel side flanges defining a torpedo level geometry. The central web and side flanges define windows within which are mounted vertical and horizontal tubular spirit level elements that permit selective orientation of the side flanges to determine when surfaces being engaged by the side flanges are either vertically or horizontally oriented. A rotary protractor is mounted to the central web and contains a spirit level tube for accurate positioning of the side flanges with respect to the selected angle of the protractor. Magnet members are mounted to one or both of the side flanges and serve to support the level device in hands-off relation when in contact with ferrous metal objects. A circular omnidirectional level enlargement is provided at the upper end portion of the level body and provides for support of a circular omnidirectional level device having a circular lens marked with circular positioning indicia.
