  • Patent number: 7127797
Abstract: A method for producing a low-hysteresis magnetoelastic element comprising applying a magnetoelastic material onto a metal substrate. After the magnetoelastic element is securely bonded to the underlying shaft, a reduction in the outside diameter of the shaft draws the magnetoelastic element radially inward causing it to occupy a smaller volume. This process provides the magnetic anistropy required for the sensor to operate properly, and also results in a densification of the magnetoelastic element making it inherently stable. Several methods of reducing the outside diameter of the shaft to draw the magnetoelastic element radially inward have been devised. Prior to deposition of the magnetoelastic material, the outside diameter of a hollow shaft is elastically expanded by applying force to its inside diameter. This is accomplished by using an expanding insert, by pressurizing the cavity within the shaft, or by inducing a managed thermal expansion of the shaft prior to material deposition.

  • Patent number: 7127800
Abstract: The magnetic head includes a P2 pole tip in which the P2 pole tip material is electroplated upon a sidewall of the P2 pole tip photolithographic trench. To accomplish this, a block of material is deposited upon a write gap layer, such that a generally straight, vertical sidewall of the block of material is disposed at the P2 pole tip location. Thereafter, an electroplating seed layer is deposited upon the sidewall. A P2 pole tip trench is photolithographically fabricated such that the sidewall (with its deposited seed layer) is exposed within the P2 pole tip trench. Thereafter, the P2 pole tip is formed by electroplating pole tip material upon the seed layer and outward from the sidewall within the trench. The width of the P2 pole tip is thus determined by the quantity of pole tip material that is deposited upon the sidewall.

  • Patent number: 7127801
Abstract: A thin film magnetic head that includes an improved P2 pole tip/yoke interface. The process for forming the P2 pole tip/yoke interface includes a CMP polishing step that is performed on the surface of the wafer subsequent to the plating of the P2 pole tip. This CMP step utilizes a relatively soft polishing pad and an acidic polishing slurry which preferentially attacks the P2 pole tip material, such that the CMP step results in the recession of the upper surface of the P2 pole tip relative to the dielectric layer surrounding it, as well as the significant rounding of the upper edges of the dielectric trench in which the P2 pole tip is formed. Thereafter, when the yoke is plated onto the P2 pole tip the rounded upper edges of the dielectric trench result in a concave curved interface between the yoke and the P2 pole tip.

  • Patent number: 7127812
Abstract: A board 20 is provided with a Cu film 30 as a conformal mask, in which are formed a register mark 30b and an opening 3a through which a via hole is formed. A laser beam is directed to the approximate position of the opening 30a, so that the opening 26a through which the via hole is drilled is formed. The accuracy of the position of the opening of the via hole depends on the accuracy of the position of the opening 30a in the Cu film 30 as the conformal mask. • Patent number: 7127818
Abstract: An electric shaver is provided which can enhance the vibration sound by increasing the length of arch-like edges formed between adjacent slots of the inner blade. In the electric shaver, an inner blade having the arch-like edges is moved reciprocally while its outer face contacts with and slides over an inner face of an outer blade to cut beard. The inner blade has an arch-like plate member, as a main body of the inner blade, and it has slots extending from a side wall through a top curved portion to the other side wall, to form arch-like edges between adjacent slots, and the inner blade is connected through a joint to a driver of the main body to be moved reciprocally. Mounting members for the joint are provided at two ends of the inner blade in the longitudinal direction, and the lower ends of the edges at the central portion of the inner blade are set lower than the lower ends of the beads formed above the mounting members of the inner blade.

  • Patent number: 7127823
Abstract: The compass system of the present invention utilizes an improved calibration routine in which a processing circuit of the compass recalibrates the compass each time three data points are obtained from a magnetic field sensor that meet predetermined criteria. One such criterion is that the three data points define corners of a triangle that is substantially non-obtuse. When three data points have been obtained that define a triangle meeting this criterion, the processing circuit calculates a center point for a circle upon which all three data points lie by solving the equation x2+y2+Ax+By+C=0 for A, B, and C, using the coordinate values (x,y) for the three data points and defining the center point as (?A/2, ?B/2).

  • Patent number: 7127824
Abstract: Described is a device for machine tools or measuring apparatus for detecting the spatial position of a carriage movable in a coordinate axis along a guide with respect to a reference standard which is designed as a rectangular plate extending parallel to the guide of the carriage. Two opposed, parallel surfaces of the reference standard carry each a two-dimensional line grating. A position measuring system serves the function of determining continuously the spatial position of a support member fixedly connectible with the carriage. The position measuring system includes three optical incremental reading heads and one distance sensor. The support member is arranged on the movable carriage such as to prevent the support member from contacting the reference standard over the entire length of the travel while at the same time detection is being performed.
