  • Patent number: 7134461
Abstract: A pencil sharpener includes a frame, a drive mechanism, a transmission mechanism, a cutting mechanism, and a pencil-core adjustment mechanism. The pencil-core adjustment mechanism is constituted of a core stopper shaft, an elastic body, and a core adjustment switch constituted of electrode plates aligned in parallel. A pencil inserted into the cutting mechanism presses against and turns ON a switch provided in the drive mechanism to transmit power from the electric power supply unit to the drive device, thereby operating the cutting mechanism via the transmission mechanism to sharpen the pencil. When the pencil is pressed against the upper end of the core stopper shaft, a disk of the core stopper shaft contacts and pushes down one end of the longer electrode plate to separate the projection of the longer electrode plate from the shorter electrode plate, thereby turning OFF the core adjustment switch.

  • Patent number: 7134465
Abstract: An apparatus for identifying, tracking and handling lumber to be cut-in-two includes a scanner and optimizer to scan the length of a board and to compare the scanned board to predetermined criteria so as to identify a board which, optimally, would be cut into two pieces along its length. An identification device applies a detectable indicator to the board. A transfer transfers in a downstream direction, the board from the scanner to the identification device, and from the identification device to a lug-loader loading device adjacent and immediately upstream of a lug loader. A detector cooperates with the lug-loader loading device so as to detect the detectable indicator on the board and to delay the loading of the lug loader following loading of the board into a lug space so that an immediately subsequent lug space behind and upstream of the board is left empty so as to receive a portion of the board cut from the board once the board is cut-in-two in a downstream trimmer or other sawing device.

  • Patent number: 7134486
Abstract: Apparatus and methods according to the present invention preferably utilize electroosmotic pumps that are capable of generating high pressure and flow without moving mechanical parts and the associated generation of unacceptable electrical and acoustic noise, as well as the associated reduction in reliability. These electroosmotic pumps are preferably fabricated with materials and structures that improve performance, efficiency, and reduce weight and manufacturing cost relative to presently available micropumps. These electroosmotic pumps also preferably allow for control including venting or recapture of evolved gases and deposited materials, which may provide for long-term closed-loop operation. A gas permeable membrane removes and vents electrolytic gasses generated within the fluid chamber of the electroosmotic pump to ambient. A catalyst can be used to recombine electrolytic gases to form a vapor product that can be vented or condensed into a liquid state.

Abstract: In a vehicle air conditioner, a foot door is rotatably supported for opening and closing a foot opening and an air port communicating with defrost and face openings. The foot door has a guide plate. The guide plate functions as a heated air guide portion for directing heated air heated by a heating device to merge with cooled air that bypasses the heating device when the foot door is at a defrost/face mode position. The guide plate functions as a cooled air guide portion for directing the cooled air to merge with the heated air when the foot door is at a foot mode position. Accordingly, the heated air and the cooled air are sufficiently mixed with each other. Because the guide plate is moved for switching the defrost/face mode position and the foot mode position, the flow of air is not blocked by the guide plate.

Skin damage removal from internal and external filter cake deposition can be reduced.

Abstract: A method for characterizing formation fluid using flowline viscosity and density data in an oil-based mud environment includes: making an initial estimate of the density and viscosity of the individual components of the sampled fluid; measuring the volume fractions, density, and viscosity of the total mixture of formation fluid; computing the density and viscosity of the total mixture using the estimate and the measured volume fractions; comparing the computed values with the measured values; and updating the estimate based on the comparison until convergence. The process is repeated as additional data are acquired until the converged computed values differ only by an acceptable amount.

  • Patent number: 7134502
Abstract: A well bore fluid recovery system and method for recovering a column of well bore fluid within a stand of casing before cutting the casing. The recovery system relates to a system for preventing fluids from being spilled when casing is being finished for a well bore. After being run the casing must be cut and finished at an appropriate level to install rig equipment such as blow out preventers along with other equipment. However, because of earlier operations, the entire length of casing is typically filled with drilling fluid. Depending on conditions, the length of casing which is to be cut and removed may therefore over a 100-foot (27.4 meter) column of drilling fluid therein. The drilling fluid in this section must be properly drained before the casing is cut and removed.

  • Patent number: 7134503
Abstract: The wellbore pump of the present invention comprises a plunger having passage means which may be open or closed by a valve operated by a piston which is biased in the open position by a spring of selected strength such that the wellbore pressure may overcome the spring to close the valve when the accumulated hydrostatic pressure reaches a certain value. When the valve closes the reservoir pressure forces the plunger to the surface and causes the accumulated liquids to be pumped out of the wellbore. A stem extending from the top of the piston engages a top plate and causes the valve to open when the plunger reaches the top of the wellbore. Means is provided whereby the valve opens when it reaches the top of the wellbore and a latch may be provided to retain the plunger from returning to the bottom of the well.

  • Patent number: 7134504
Abstract: An expandable packer or anchor is disclosed. It features a gripping device integral to or mounted in a sleeve over the mandrel. Upon expansion, a sealing element engages an outer tubular and the gripping device, such as wickers on slips, preferably digs into the outer tubular. The expansion is preferably by pressure and can incorporate pressure intensifiers delivered by slick line or wire line. Release is accomplished by a release tool, which is delivered on slick line or wire line. It stretches the anchor or packer longitudinally, getting it to retract radially, for release. The release tool can be combined with packers or anchors that have a thin walled feature in the mandrel, to release by pulling the mandrel apart.

  • Patent number: 7134508
Abstract: A preferred embodiment of a rotary tool reciprocating motion conversion attachment for a rotary power hand tool is described which is configured to be attached to a nose portion of the hand tool housing. The attachment has a rotary drive train in a housing that is connectable to the output shaft of the hand tool, the drive train driving a barrel cam having an exterior cam groove. A cam follower rides in the cam groove and produces reciprocating motion, with the cam follower being part of a cam follower assembly to which an implement holder is attached. The preferred embodiment has a cam groove configuration which causes the implement holder to move slower during a cutting stroke and faster during a return stroke, thereby tending to optimize the operation of the cutting implement. The preferred embodiment also includes a planetary gear set for reducing the rotational speed of the hand tool output shaft to reduce the speed of reciprocation of the attachment.
