Abstract: Techniques for efficiently computing spatial filter matrices are described. The channel response matrices for a MIMO channel may be highly correlated if the channel is relatively static over a range of transmission spans. In this case, an initial spatial filter matrix may be derived based on one channel response matrix, and a spatial filter matrix for each transmission span may be computed based on the initial spatial filter matrix and a steering matrix used for that transmission span. The channel response matrices may be partially correlated if the MIMO channel is not static but does not change abruptly. In this case, a spatial filter matrix may be derived for one transmission span l and used to derive an initial spatial filter matrix for another transmission span m. A spatial filter matrix for transmission span m may be computed based on the initial spatial filter matrix, e.g., using an iterative procedure.

Abstract: Provided is a transmitter circuit capable of outputting a transmission signal having high accuracy irrespective of bandwidth and operating with high efficiency. In the transmitter circuit 1, a delay detection section 18 selects two observation points at which angle change amounts of the complex envelope are larger than a predetermined angle threshold value and selects, as a singular point, an observation point at which a magnitude of the complex envelope is larger than that at one of the two observation points. Based on a positional relationship among the singular point, a preceding symbol, and a succeeding symbol, a relationship between delay times of the amplitude signal and the phase signal is detected. Based on the relationship between delay times of the amplitude signal and the phase signal, a delay setting section 19 sets a delay time in a delay adjuster 12. Based on the set delay time, the delay adjuster 12 adjusts the delay times of the amplitude signal and the phase signal.

Abstract: The invention represents a parallel and distributed approach to clock recovery based on multiple mutually phase shifted sample clock signals (åS) defining a set of orthogonal clock phases. The phase shifted clock signals are used for obtaining an input data sample representation (åU). Input data transition detection is accomplished by determining, for each one of the above clock phases, whether input data samples within a detection window associated with the respective clock phase include an input data transition vector (I). A corresponding clock selection control signal vector (I) is generated based on the input data transition vector (I) to determine a clock selection master. In order to dynamically extract an output clock signal, to control signal vector (I) is then logically combined with a representation (åS?), preferably a rotated version, of the sample clock vector (åS).

Abstract: Special DC tone treatment in a wireless communications system, e.g., an OFDM system, is discussed. In the downlink, a wireless terminal receiver introduces self-interference at the DC tone from the RF/baseband conversion. A base station every so often does not transmit on the downlink DC tone while continuing to transmit on other downlink tones. Wireless terminals measure received signal on the downlink DC tone during the time of suspended DC tone transmission, estimate self-interference and apply a correction to other received downlink DC tones. In the uplink DC tone interference is a composite of the assigned wireless terminal transmitter's baseband/RF conversion self-interference and air link noise. During one symbol interval of an N symbol interval dwell, the uplink DC tone is reserved for a special modulation symbol, which is a predetermined function of the other N-1 modulation symbols.

The method determines the gap in a without the need to determine or know the SNR for each individual diversity combining scheme. This involves determining the number of diversity branches associated with the multi-path wireless communication and the receiver used to process the multi-path wireless communication. The SNR gap may then be expressed as the term 10log10L!/L where L is the number of diversity branches.

Abstract: A timing recovery apparatus and method with frequency protection are provided. The apparatus uses a frequency estimator to calculate and store an estimated frequency value as a pre-stored estimated frequency value when timing quality is good. A defect detector is used to determine whether a defective portion on a disk medium has been detected. When a defective portion has been detected, the pre-stored estimated frequency value is then used as the basis of phase lock and frequency lock to generate a reference clock. As the read operation performed over the defective portion is finished, the normal frequency lock mechanism is restarted. At this moment, the frequency lock mechanism can take less time to lock the input signal. Thus, the invention significantly reduces the missing readable data due to loss of frequency lock, and never breaks the normal tracking-frequency operation of the frequency lock mechanism.

Abstract: For an error rate QBER, threshold values are preset, including a threshold value Qbit for frame synchronization processing, a threshold value Qphase for phase correction processing, and a threshold value QEve for eavesdropping detection. Upon the distribution of a quantum key from a sender to a receiver, when the measurement value of QBER is deteriorated more than Qbit, frame synchronization processing is performed. When the measurement value of QBER is deteriorated more than Qphase, phase correction processing and frame synchronization processing are performed. When QBER does not become better than QEve even after these recovery-processing steps are repeated N times, it is determined that there is a possibility of eavesdropping, and the processing is stopped.

Abstract: Key management is performed to generate a single key allowing of the decoding of all authorized levels of a plurality of access types within a scalable codestream. An access node set is derived from sets representing access types having hierarchies representable by fully ordered sets, such as resolution and layer levels, and hierarchies representable by partially ordered sets, such as tile and precinct levels. The access node set derived is a partially ordered set representing the combinations of levels of the access types included within the codestream. A hierarchical key management system is applied to the access node set to assign a key to each of the access nodes, generate content encryption keys, and encrypt the codestream. A client receiving the codestream, access node set, and other public information uses the key to derive additional keys to decrypt the codestream.
