Publication number: 20070014654Abstract: A pallet clamping device is mounted between forks of a material handling vehicle. The device clamps to a stringer of a pallet using a pair of horizontally moveable jaws. The jaws are resiliently forced toward one another for clamping a stringer so that a clamped pallet will not move off the forks. The jaws are mounted for pivoting and sliding motion relative to mounting pins which, together with links coupling the jaws to a base of the device, tighten jaw closure if a pallet moves away from the forks. The pivoting and sliding motion of the jaws helps align the jaws with pallets not perfectly aligned with the vehicle. Depression of a foot pedal moves the jaws from a closed position to a latched open position for receiving a pallet stringer. The jaws can also be moved to an unlatched open position for receiving a greater width center stringer. Upon release of the operating device from the unlatched open position, the jaws move toward their closed position.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 12, 2006Publication date: January 18, 2007Inventors: Forrest Haverfield, Patrick Soder, Douglas Meyers, Michael Heitkamp

Objects may also be placed within the container to come in contact with the substrate so as to have the disinfecting agent transferred to said objects, thereby disinfecting them.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 15, 2005Publication date: January 18, 2007Inventor: Gerald Halt

Publication number: 20070014687Abstract: The presently described technology provides for methods and compositions for deactivating the allergenic protein content of surfaces by treatment with an allergenic protein deactivating compound. Preferred allergenic protein deactivating compositions of the present technology comprise: (1) cationic compounds and (2) nitrogen-containing compounds. Quaternary ammonium salts are particularly preferred allergenic protein deactivating compounds. In some embodiments, allergenic protein deactivating formulations of the present technology additionally contain antimicrobial agents to deactivate microorganisms on surfaces, in the air, or both. Additives including cyclodextrins, soluble aluminum salts, urea, alkyl trimethyl ammonium salts, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, tannic acid, immobilized tannic acid, polyphenols, enzymes, benzyl benzoate, inorganic salts, surfactants, buffers, oils, waxes, solvents, preservatives and mixtures thereof are also envisioned for use with the described technology.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 12, 2006Publication date: January 18, 2007Inventors: Rick Tabor, James Hartlage, Daniel Bertholf, S. Publication number: 20070014688Abstract: A method of reducing pathogens in blood by exposure to a nitric oxide containing gas in an extracorporeal circuitry is provided. The method includes: obtaining blood from a mammal or a blood source, separating the blood into plasma and blood cells, exposing the plasma to nitric oxide containing gas, combining the exposed plasma with the blood cells, reducing nitric oxide content in the recombined blood, and returning the blood to the mammal or blood source.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 1, 2006Publication date: January 18, 2007Inventors: Douglas Hole, Christopher Miller

Publication number: 20070014689Abstract: A transducer protector including at least two spaced apart filter membranes. The transducer protector may include a body positioned between two tubular connectors, each of which contains an axially aligned lumen. The body lumen may be separated from the lumen of each of the tubular connectors, respectively, by the filter membranes. An indicator may be disposed in the body to alert a user that the filter membrane has been breached by a contaminant so that the user can take immediate steps to prevent further contamination of the system. The indicator may display a change in an absorbance spectra peak at a wavelength ranging from approximately 200 nm to approximately 800 nm upon reacting with bodily fluid.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 28, 2006Publication date: January 18, 2007Applicant: JMS North America CorporationInventor: Ludwig Teugels

Publication number: 20070014690Abstract: Devices and methods are described for homogenization, processing, detection, and analysis of biological samples such as insects, fungi, bacteria, and plant and animal tissues. Multiple chambers in these devices permit different processing functions to be carried out at each stage, such that the resulting homogenized product can be further processed, purified, analyzed, and/or biomolecules such as metabolites, proteins and nucleic acids, or pharmaceutical products can be detected. The device can be used in a hydrostatic pressure apparatus, in which different activities, i.e. incubations, addition or renewal of reagent, and generation and detection of signal can be carried out in the appropriate chamber. The method improves the preservation of biomolecules from chemical and enzymatic degradation relative to conventional means. Additionally, this method enables automated sample preparation and analytical processes.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 10, 2006Publication date: January 18, 2007Inventors: Nathan Lawrence, Feng Tao, Allan Kakita, Mark Manak, Richard Schumacher, James Laugharn

Publication number: 20070014692Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring binding between a plurality of molecules of a first type and a plurality of molecules of a second type is presented. Apparatus utilizes a sensor possessing a waveguide to which have been attached in close proximity to its surface, features resembling molecules of said first type. Light is injected into said waveguide so as to produce an evanescent field at its surface. Molecules of said second type are tagged with a tag belonging to that class of chemicals which alters a characteristic of light, when said light passes through said chemical tag. Apparatus utilizes a rapid means of monitoring the change in optical signal coming from said waveguide as binding proceeds between tagged molecules of type 2 and the feature resembling molecules of type 1 on said waveguide. This allows direct measurement of binding and dissociation rates between the two types of molecules.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 28, 2006Publication date: January 18, 2007Inventors: Judith Erb, James Downward, Otho Ulrich

Publication number: 20070014693Abstract: Improved systems and methods are provided for monitoring compliance with an order for a patient specimen. Broadly, an inventive system incorporates a machine readable wireless identification and sensor technology to provide feedback to a caregiver regarding compliance with a specimen order. In particular, a system for monitoring compliance with an order for a specimen is provided which includes a specimen container having an attached machine readable wireless tag. The tag contains specimen container characteristic information. The tagged container aids in indicating to a user whether the correct specimen container type has been chosen. Further, a system is provided which includes a sensor useful in indicating whether a sufficient quantity of specimen has been obtained in order to perform the requested laboratory test as part of the patient's care.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 18, 2006Publication date: January 18, 2007Inventors: Allen Kantrowitz, In Mun
