Patent number: 7182268Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of controlling the absolute humidity of blown air in a roasting-and-drying process and a roasting-and-drying apparatus. The method makes humidity control for air blown through malt to be proper and makes the variation in the degree of drying to be decreased in the roasting-and-drying process for producing malt. In the process for roasting and drying a malt raw material, outside air introduced toward a malt layer 10 provided by heaping the malt raw material is heated and is fed to the malt raw material as the blown air. A portion of air passing through the malt raw material as circulated air is mixed with the outside air and is fed to the malt raw material as the blown air again. The absolute humidity of the blown air fed to the malt raw material is measured using a sensor 20, and the mixing ratio of the introduced outside air and the circulated air is controlled so that the measured absolute humidity is kept at a predetermined value.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2002Date of Patent: February 27, 2007Assignee: Sapporo Breweries Ltd.Inventor: Kazumitsu Kawahara

Patent number: 7182269Abstract: A fountain for heating and distributing fluidic material is manufactured using various processes and materials so that the fountain is more easily cleaned and sanitized, has improved performance, and is easier to assemble. In one embodiment, the chocolate fountain includes a heating element encased in an aluminum enclosure. A basin containing chocolate is heated by contact with the aluminum enclosure. Because the aluminum enclosure has a relatively high thermal conductivity, the basin is heating substantially uniformly, thus reducing the occurrence of hot spots. Additionally, a plastic auger having a spiral flight rotates and lifts the melted chocolate upward to a top end of cylinder that houses the auger. The use of a plastic auger advantageously eliminates welding artifacts on the auger, such as burrs and pits, on which melted chocolate may accumulate. Accordingly, the plastic auger is easy to clean. A smaller chocolate fountain that may advantageously be more suitable for home use is also described herein.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 2005Date of Patent: February 27, 2007Assignee: Sephra LLCInventors: Richard B.
