Patent number: 7182469Abstract: A method and system for improving the contrast ratio of a projected image. An asymmetric aperture stop improves the contrast ratio of a projected image. Using slightly offset projection, the majority of the on-state projection light from the modulator array passes through a region that is not centered in the projection lens pupil. The blocked region of the asymmetric aperture is oriented toward the illumination path and away from the specular reflection path. The asymmetric aperture is able to block a significant portion of the diffracted light using the blocked region, without blocking much of the desired projection light passing through the remainder of the aperture. The result is that dark regions of the image become significantly darker, while light regions remain about the same. The same effect occurs without offset illumination.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 2003Date of Patent: February 27, 2007Assignee: Texas Instruments IncorporatedInventors: D. Scott Dewald, Steven M. Patent number: 7182471Abstract: A projection type display apparatus comprises a rod type integrator 6 having a solid rod structure, in which light being emitted from a lamp and entering an entrance face 6a, as a focal plane, at one end of the solid rod is guided by being internally reflected therein, and is emitted from an exit face 6c as a further focal plane at the other end of the solid rod. A parallel glass plate is attached to the exit face 6c. The glass plate 11 has a flange-shaped extension portion 11a, which extends from periphery of the solid rod, and which serves as a holding portion for holding the integrator. This realizes little or no loss of light to be caused by light leakage outside the solid rod, thereby preventing the integrator from decreasing light use efficiency. Furthermore, the exit face 6c, as the further focal plane, of the solid rod is prevented from having e.g. dust deposited thereon, thereby causing no influence on deterioration of projected images.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 2004Date of Patent: February 27, 2007Assignee: Funai Electric Co., Ltd.Inventor: Tsutomu Yoshikawa

Patent number: 7182476Abstract: An optical device which generates an optically variable image, the image being optically variable in that it varies according to the position of observation, is manufactured by dividing an optically invariable image into multiple pixels. Color component values are determined for each pixel. For each of the pixels of the optically invariable image, there is determined an associated pixel surface structure which has a three-dimensional surface shape and curvature which is related via a mathematical of computer algorithm to the color component values of the associated pixel in the optically invariable image, each pixel surface structure being an individual reflective or diffractive surface structure which produces an observable optical effect. Patent number: 7182510Abstract: An apparatus and method for measuring and mapping thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity at micrometer scale resolution. The apparatus and method utilize a mode-locked femtosecond pulsed laser in a pump-probe configuration to analyze time-domain thermoreflectance of a specimen to evaluate its thermal conductivity in micro-scale, so that, if desired, an image of thermal conductivity distribution of micro-scale regions may be obtained therefrom. A multi-layer, complete three-dimensional model that takes into account the entire three-dimensional heat flow in cylindrical coordinates enables micro-scale measurements to be made at an accuracy of about 90% of well-accepted values.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 2005Date of Patent: February 27, 2007Inventor: David Gerard Cahill

Patent number: 7182513Abstract: A zipper strip for a reclosable bag or package includes a male interlocking profile and a female interlocking profile. The male interlocking profile includes a male interlocking member and a male web coextruded therewith. In like manner, the female interlocking profile includes a female interlocking member and a female web. The male interlocking member snappingly engages into the female interlocking member to join the profiles to one another. One of the male and female webs is wider than the other in at least one of two directions from the male and female interlocking members, the greater width being represented by at least one flange extending widthwise beyond the other web. The zipper strip is designed to be attached to thermoplastic sheet material by sealing the at least one flange thereto without sealing the male and female webs to each other. Methods for securing the zipper strip to thermoplastic sheet material, and for making packages on a horizontal form-fill-and-seal machine, are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 2000Date of Patent: February 27, 2007Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventors: Art Malin, Donald L.
