Abstract: The invention relates to a mechanism for maintaining a secure tunnel in a packet-based communication system. A secure tunnel is established between a security gateway and a mobile terminal being located at a first address in a first network, wherein the security gateway connects the first network to a second network and the mobile terminal has a second address that identifies the mobile terminal in the second network. In the gateway, the tunnel is identified based on the second address in packets destined for the mobile terminal from the second network. A change is detected in the first address of the mobile terminal and an update message including a new address value of the first address is sent to the security gateway. Based on the update message, the first address associated with the secure tunnel is updated in the security gateway.

Abstract: Advice of charge information is provided utilizing the session initiation protocol (SIP) in an Internet protocol multimedia subsystem without utilizing an application server. The advice of charge message is provided to a user via the serving call/session control function and the home subscription server. When a request for a service is received by the serving call/session control function, the state of a binary, Boolean flag associated with the originator of the request is analyzed. Depending upon the state of the flag, either the request is routed to its intended destination, or an advice of charge message is routed to originating user, advising the user of the charge for the requested service. If the user accepts the charge, the serving call/session control function transmits the request for routing to the intended destination, and the flag is toggled. If the user declines the charge, the call is ended.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing Layer 2 (L2) interworking is presented. A L2 Protocol Data Unit (PDU) is received at an L2 Switching Entity (SE). The L2 PDU is converted to a normalized Pseudowire (PW) PDU. The normalized PW PDU is then forwarded to a Layer 3 (L3) Routing Entity (RE). The normalized PDU may be in the form of a predetermined L2 protocol or a L2 agnostic protocol.

Abstract: An interconnection between fully synchronous networks of the prior art and next generation frame communications networks, which is required for the shift to next-generation packet networks and a broader-based connection service, is realized. Here, the first point is that a means of bidirectional frame format conversion between a synchronous multiplexing system and a logical multiplexing system is provided, and a method of transmitting data between different networks on a path as if it was being transmitted in the same network. The second point is that when converting network control information in an STM network into data suitable for a packet network, even across the boundary of a synchronous multiplexing system and a logical multiplexing system, a unified communication management means is provided over the whole path.

Abstract: A method and a device for switching the working mode of the media stream transition channel on a gateway. The method includes: detecting signals sent by data devices passing through the gateway, if the signals from common fax machines are detected, the media stream transition channel is switched to a T.38 mode; if the signals from high speed data devices are detected, the media stream transition channel is switched to a Voice-Band Data (VBD) mode, and at the same time, further signal detection is performed, if Call Menu-FAX (CM-FAX) signals are detected, the media stream transition channel is switched to the T.38 mode. The switching device of the invention includes a first detecting unit, a second detecting unit and a switching unit. The present invention can quickly, implement the working mode switching of the media stream transition channel on a gateway, which reduces the maintenance complexity of the devices.

Abstract: A method for realizing timing source synchronization is disclosed, applied to a ring-network including several network nodes wherein each network node selects a timing source from timing sources available for selection according to the quality states of the timing source, synchronizes the timing source, and takes the timing source as an available timing source for other network nodes; when the synchronized timing source is from a network interface, sets the timing source quality state to be sent to the network interface as non-synchronous source state, and sets the timing source quality state to be sent to all the other connected network interfaces as the quality state of the synchronized timing source; otherwise, sets the timing source quality state to be sent to all connected network interfaces as the quality state of the synchronized timing source. By the method, automatic selection and APS of timing source in networks can be realized.

Abstract: Media that is normally packetized into many separate individual packets and then queued for individual transmission during a transmit window is combined together into one, or a few, packets. The larger packets more efficiently carry media over a time slotted communication media since only one, or a few, packet headers are used for carrying a larger amount of media. Since packets cannot be transmitted until the start of a new transmit window, the larger packets do not substantially add to the overall packet delay that normally occurs when larger packets are formatted and transmitted in non-time slotted networks. In another aspect of the system, probe packets are used to identify the start of the transmit window. The transmit window start time is inferred from the round trip times for the probe packets and media packetization is then synchronized with the identified transmit windows.

Abstract: Systems and methods for increasing the efficiency of communications between master devices and slave devices in a system. A master normally sends a command to a slave if a token from the slave is received. Determining whether a token is of the correct type requires multiple processing cycles. Alternatively, if all of the slaves have available buffer slots, an “all token available” signal is asserted. When the “all token available” signal is received, the master can send any command without having to decode any of the tokens.
