  • Patent number: 7198472
Abstract: A platform arrangement for components such as aerofoil vanes 1, 21 is provided whereby the necessary rigidity provided by the platform does not create excess problems with respect to stress and strain fatigue failure at thinner sections of the component. The leading edge 6, 26 and trailing edge 7, 27 of a vane generally have a thinner section and so when subject to greater flex deformation such flex deformation may lead to premature failure through stress and strain. Structural configurations are now provided which comprise cut out windows 24 in the platform 22 beneath the edges 26, 27 or alternatively differential material types at these locations with a less stiff nature.

  • Patent number: 7198477
Abstract: A mechanical shut-off valve member for use with gas-assisted injection molding systems. A piston member is slidingly positioned in a body member or housing and spring-biased to a closed position. The valve member is opened by the injection of plastic material through the valve member and into a mold cavity. The spring biasing force closes the valve member and shuts off the flow of plastic once the mold cavity is filled with the requisite amount of plastic material. The shut-off valve member prevents any backflow of plastic material into the nozzle or injection molding machine during further steps in the injection molding process, including injection of gas or fluid into the plastic in the mold cavity.

  • Patent number: 7198505
Abstract: Improvements to a 3-way light bulb socket are shown. The major improvement is to replace or complement the rigid middle contact element of the socket with an elastic/flexible contact spring. The 3-way light bulb has a solder blob on its middle contact ring, where said blob usually has a rough, uneven surface, and frequently does protrude beyond the general surface of the bulb middle contact ring. The solder blob interferes with the conventional socket middle contact element, which is rigid, and prevents the system from creating a good, permanent and reliable electrical connection between the socket and the bulb. Potential flicker and discomfort to the user can occur as a result. Also, the operating life of the bulb as well as the power consumption can be affected. The proposed flexible middle contact spring can alleviate most of these problems.
