    Abstract: The present invention provides a lighting head assembly that incorporates a high intensity LED package into an integral housing for further incorporation into other useful lighting devices. The present invention primarily includes two housing components, namely an inner mounting die and an outer enclosure. The inner and outer components cooperate to retain the LED package, provide electrical and control connections, provide integral heat sink capacity and includes an integrated reflector cup. In this manner, high intensity LED packages can be incorporated into lighting assemblies through the use of the present invention by simply installing the present invention into a housing and providing power connections thereto.

    Abstract: A backlight illumination system for illuminating a large area with light of a uniform color has a set of a pre-determined number of light emitters arranged along a straight line. The set is divided in a plurality of subsets, each subset including at least two light emitters. Each subset comprises light emitters with substantially the same light-emission color point, the respective subsets having color points different from each other. As a first step, the light emitters of the subset with a smallest number of light emitters are assigned to respective substantially equidistant positions. The light emitters of the set are assigned to the respective positions by iteratively starting with the subset with the smallest number of light emitters, assigning the light emitters of the subset to substantially equidistant positions which are not yet occupied. The backlight illumination system according to the invention has a uniform light and color distribution.

    Abstract: A luminaire has side reflectors having edges defining the width W of a light-emission window, and a plurality of lamellae, which have a concave outer edge in the light-emission window and an inner face remote from that window. In the centers of the lamellae, the lamellae have a distance ho between the outer edge and the inner face that is <0.1 W. As a result, the total surface area of the inner face is relatively small. Internal reflections are thereby reduced, and a higher light output is obtained. If the lamellae are solid and made of plastic, less material is required for their fabrication. In a preferred embodiment, ho<0.05 W, and the inner face may then be convex and even have the same contour as the outer edge. The lamellae louver has lamellae of ho<W, in which W is also the length of the lamellae.

    Abstract: A method of aligning an optical fiber to a laser diode obtains first light from the laser at a point designated as the center of a planar geometric shape. Data points are taken at the vertices of the shape, whereby a scan measures alignment quality at each of the vertices and the center. The scan begins by obtaining data at the center and moves to a vertex and the remaining vertices in either a clockwise or counterclockwise fashion. Alignment qualities are compared and the location of highest alignment quality is designated as a new center. The scan repeats until the location of the new center remains unchanged, whereby the new center becomes the point of alignment. Alternately, the scan iteration may repeat with increased resolution by reducing the size of the geometric shape and/or increasing the power from the laser until a point of alignment is found at highest resolution.

A pair of opposed printhead assemblies are mounted on the chassis to carry out a double-sided printing operation on a sheet of media interposed between the printhead assemblies. A pair of opposed feed rollers are mounted on the chassis and positioned upstream of the printhead assemblies to feed media between the printhead assemblies. Each printhead assembly includes at least one elongate ink distribution structure. A printhead chip is mounted on a free end of the, or each, ink distribution structure such that printhead chips on opposite ink distribution structures are aligned. The ink distribution structures are shaped so that a distance from at least one pair of aligned printhead chips to a point of contact between the rollers is less than a radius of the rollers.
