  • Patent number: 7216385
Abstract: An inflatable cushion for use in a system and method in supporting the knees and legs of a person during surgery included an inflatable bladder that can move from a collapsed state to an expanded state. A bladder port communicates with a source of inflating gas. The system includes the source of pressurized gas and a valve assembly to switchably control the inflation and deflation of the bladder. The bladder may have a removable cover extending around the bladder, and the bladder may have side pleats to assist in expanding with the cover having corresponding accordion folds. The method involves placing a patient on a surgical table, decompressing the patient's spine to a flat back/drop knee position, interposing the bladder between the table and the patient's knees and advancing the knees to a full prone position by inflating the bladder.

  • Patent number: 7216387
Abstract: The arched pillow assembly allows a user to comfortably sleep with an arm underneath his or her head and a pillow without restricting the circulation of blood through the arm. The arched pillow assembly includes a pillowcase that holds a conventional pillow and has two spaced apart pockets attached to the bottom of the pillowcase for snugly receiving and holding a rigid arch support. Once placed on a resting surface, the arch support has a radius of curvature sufficient to form a channel thereunder for accommodating the passage of an extended arm. The arch is strong enough to support the head of the user and the pillow in an elevated position above the extended arm and the resting surface, thereby preventing the weight of the head and pillow from restricting proper circulation of blood through the extended arm.

  • Patent number: 7216388
Abstract: A support contour of a cushion, such as a wheelchair cushion, defines relief areas at locations adjacent to skin covering the ischial tuberosities, the greater trochanters and the coccyx and sacrum of a person sitting on the support contour. Support areas of the support contour transfer force into the pelvic area adjacent to skin covering tissue masses on opposite lateral sides of the posterior buttocks and beneath the proximal thighs of the person. Greater clearance is also provided in the perineal area. Risks of pressure ulcers from pressure and shear forces on bony prominences is reduced while providing support at the broader areas without bony prominences in such a manner to encourage postural alignment. The risks of skin breakdown perineal are diminished.

  • Patent number: 7216406
Abstract: A method for forming a split thin film capacitor for providing multiple power and reference supply voltage levels to electrical devices such as integrated circuits, may be useful in space restricted applications, and in applications that require very close electrical connections between the power consumer and the power supply. An example of both a space restricted application and a close coupling application may be an integrated circuit such as a microprocessor, that may need a closely coupled capacitor supplying and moderating power to the microprocessor in order to quickly respond to instantaneous power demands that may be found in high clock rate devices. The method may supply a lower voltage power supply level for minimum sized transistors in the fast core logic portions of the microprocessor, and a higher voltage power supply level for the cache memory and I/O transistors.
