Publication number: 20070115966Abstract: A network device and a method of handling a frame in a network device defining a common header for each rule in a rules table of a search engine, wherein the common header comprises a source port specifying a corresponding rule to be applied to a port or ports, and a frame format specifying a format applied to the corresponding rule. A port receives a frame, with the frame having multiple field values. A pre-parser parses the received frame to obtain the field values and corresponding slices. A search engine receives the slices and determines matches between the slices and the common header of each rule in the rules table. A policy table performs indexing based on the determined matches to obtain an action entry. An action resolution takes an action based on the obtained action entry.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 1, 2006Publication date: May 24, 2007Inventor: Shrjie Tzeng

Publication number: 20070115968Abstract: A multi-level lookup table includes a plurality of search levels with each search level including a plurality of subtrees, each subtree representing a plurality of nodes. A search of the multi-level lookup table for an entry corresponding to a search key results in a value stored in an entry associated with the node in a subtree. A default value is associated with the root of the subtree. Multiple entries for the subtree can store the default value. To minimize route update time, the default value associated with the subtree is stored in a single location. Instead of storing the default value in multiple entries, each entry stores a use default indicator to indicate that the default value stored in the single location is to be used. To further reduce the number of locations to modify to update the default route, the single location can store an inherit indicator to indicate that the default value for the subtree is inherited from another subtree.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 10, 2006Publication date: May 24, 2007Inventor: David Brown

Publication number: 20070115982Abstract: Roughly described, a network interface device is assigned a maximum extent-of-search. A hash function is applied to the header information of each incoming packet, to generate a hash code for the packet. The hash code designates a particular subset of the table within which the particular header information should be found, and an iterative search is made within that subset. If the search locates a matching entry before the search limit is exceeded, then the incoming data packet is delivered to the receive queue identified in the matching entry. But if the search reaches the search limit before a matching entry is located, then device delivers the packet to a default queue, such as a kernel queue, in the host computer system. The kernel is then responsible for delivering the packet to the correct endpoint.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 20, 2005Publication date: May 24, 2007Applicant: Level 5 Networks, Inc.Inventors: Steve Pope, Derek Roberts, David Riddoch, Ching Yu, John Chiang, Der-Ren Chu

Publication number: 20070115983Abstract: Via use of a shared data bus, a processor system offloads processing tasks. For example, a processor system communicates over a respective data bus with a data communication controller. After notifying the data communication controller of a particular block of data to retrieve, the processor system relinquishes control of the respective data bus so that the data communication controller can control the data bus and store a block of data in a specified memory location using direct memory access techniques. Upon receiving a notification of completion of storing the data block by the data communication controller, the processor system regains control of the respective data bus and notifies a data forwarding circuit to: i) partition the block of data into data packets, ii) apply respective headers to the data packets based on the header information received from the processor system, and iii) forward the data packets to the respective destination.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 25, 2005Publication date: May 24, 2007Inventors: Catherine Yadlon, Neil Hentschel, Brittain McKinley

Publication number: 20070116006Abstract: A method for communicating data in a network environment is provided that includes receiving a request from an end user for a communications link, the request being used to initiate a communication session. A response is then received that is communicated to the end user in order to establish the communication session, the response being generated by a network node that was selected as a result of a loadbalancing decision. Port-level filtering for the communication session may then be invoked after the response such that separate data and signal pathways are established for selected information associated with the communication session.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 23, 2007Publication date: May 24, 2007Applicant: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Chris O'Rourke, Ashish Chandwadkar

Publication number: 20070116007Abstract: A method for scheduling and resource allocation in a data communication network (104) that transports data packets for a plurality of sessions is disclosed. The method includes monitoring a packet delay of a session data packet awaiting transport (302). The method also includes re-evaluating a scheduling priority of the session data packet (304). The re-evaluation of the scheduling priority is based on one or more functions of the packet delay.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 18, 2005Publication date: May 24, 2007Inventors: Weimin Xiao, Amitava Ghosh, Rapeepat Ratasuk

Publication number: 20070116008Abstract: An end-to-end demand between a pair of nodes of a telecommunication network is determined is categorized into a category based on hub assignments for the nodes. A route for the end-to-end demand in the telecommunication network is determined using a hubbing-and-grooming algorithm. The hubbing-and-grooming algorithm constrains which one or more links are eligible to be considered in determining the route based on the category of the end-to-end demand.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 22, 2005Publication date: May 24, 2007Applicant: SBC Knowledge Ventures, L.P.Inventors: Miguel Molina, Christine Bouamalay, Ali Zolfaghari

Publication number: 20070116010Abstract: A system for allocating resources, including at least one user terminal operable to determine at least one resource needed by the user terminal and further operable to request a first allocation of the resource. A relaying apparatus is provided which is operable to determine the resource to be allocated and further operable to transmit the determined resource to the user terminal. The user terminal is operable to calculate a cost of the resource allocated by the relaying apparatus, compare the cost with a predetermined reference value based on a changed need for the resource, and further operable to request a second allocation of the resource to the relaying apparatus based on the changed need for the resource.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 31, 2006Publication date: May 24, 2007Inventor: Sung-woo Cho

Publication number: 20070116011Abstract: A method and apparatus for communications of a UE using an IP address in a mobile communication system are provided. When the UE moves from an old subnet managed by an old gateway to a new subnet managed by a new gateway, the UE determines whether there are allocated radio resources. In the absence of the allocated radio resources, the UE determines whether an IP-based application service is in progress. If the IP-based application service is in progress, the UE determines to reuse an old IP address in the new subnet. If the IP-based application service is not in progress, the UE determines to use a new IP address in the new subnet. Then the UE sends to the new gateway an RAU request message including an indication indicating whether the old IP address or the new IP address will be used in the new subnet.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 10, 2006Publication date: May 24, 2007Inventors: Han-Na Lim, Sung-Ho Choi, O-Sok Song, Eun-Hui Bae

Publication number: 20070116012Abstract: Provided are an apparatus and a method for providing a concurrent data service to an Mobile Station (MS) through a plurality of heterogeneous networks. In a method for providing a data service to an MS through different wireless networks, the MS measures channel qualities of at least one accessible wireless network and reports the measured channel qualities to an Internet Protocol (IP) packet controller. The IP packet controller selects wireless networks for data transmission on the basis of the reported channel qualities, distributes data destined for the MS, and transmits the distributed data to the selected wireless networks. The selected wireless networks receive the data from the IP packet controller and transmits the received data to the MS. The MS combines and interprets the data received from the selected wireless networks. Accordingly, it is possible to provide a seamless data service to the MS in service environments with a mixture of different wireless communication systems.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 16, 2006Publication date: May 24, 2007Applicant: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Young-Bin Chang, Eun-Taek Lim, Jung-Min Ro, Jae-Hyuk Jang, Dong-Seek Park, Young-Kwon Cho, Joon-Young Choi
