Publication number: 20070113721Abstract: A mouthpiece for a brass wind musical instrument is composed solely of a colored polymer material. Its size and shape may be determined by computer coordinate measurements from a conventional metal mouthpiece. The color is chosen to suit the particular purpose of the musician playing the instrument, such as to match the uniforms of a marching band. The mouthpiece is fabricated by injection molding to substantially the desired size and shape. A secondary machining process removes imperfections such as flashings and gate blushes. Alternately, a blank may be injected molded, and the blank machined in a primary machining operation to the desired size, shape, and surface texture. The mouthpiece may also be manufactured by machining a bar of polymer material. The mouthpiece functions in the identical manner as prior metal mouthpieces, but it is much more comfortable to play in cold and hot environments, and it is less costly and more rugged than metal mouthpieces.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 4, 2007Publication date: May 24, 2007Inventor: James Kelly

Publication number: 20070113736Abstract: Industrial waste derived adsorbents were obtained by pyrolysis of sewage sludge, metal sludge, waste oil sludge and tobacco waste in some combination. The materials were used as media to remove hydrogen sulfide at room temperature in the presence of moisture. The initial and exhausted adsorbents after the breakthrough tests were characterized using sorption of nitrogen, thermal analysis, XRD, ICP, and surface pH measurements. Mixing tobacco and sludges result in a strong synergy enhancing the catalytic properties of adsorbents. During pyrolysis new mineral phases are formed as a result of solid state reaction between the components of the sludges. High temperature of pyrolysis is beneficial for the adsorbents due to the enhanced activation of carbonaceous phase and chemical stabilization of inorganic phase. Samples obtained at low temperature are sensitive to water, which deactivates their catalytic centers.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 8, 2006Publication date: May 24, 2007Applicant: Research Foundation of the City University of New YorkInventor: Teresa Bandosz

Publication number: 20070113756Abstract: The invention relates to a barrier cap material including a blend of: a plurality of aggregate particles, and a plurality of manufactured composite particles including a hydratable sealant material. In a particular embodiment, the segregation of a blend of aggregate particles and composite particles, when dropped through a water column can be controlled by varying blends of aggregate and composite particles. In another embodiment, the permeability of the barrier cap material, when hydrated on a surface, can be controlled from 1×10?3 cm/sec to 1×10?8 cm/sec by varying blends of aggregate and composite particles.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 23, 2005Publication date: May 24, 2007Inventor: John Hull

Publication number: 20070113759Abstract: A composite structural material suitable, for example, as a replacement for wooden boards, is disclosed. It comprises a dimensionally stable core material ensheathed in a dimensionally stable, laminar covering that is adherent to the core material. The laminar covering is comprised of at least one layer of parallel cords (19) bonded to at least one layer of a rigidified web material (10) selected from the group consisting of paper and cloth. Suitable core materials include polyurethane foam (38), optionally filled with particles (32) of granulated rubber, expanded perlite, expandable polymer beads, and/or glass microspheres. The parallel cords (19) preferably are supplied in the form of a strip of polyester cloth, as the warp cords thereof. The web material (10) preferably is kraft paper that is rigidified with an epoxy resin.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 21, 2003Publication date: May 24, 2007Inventors: Arthur Roth, Patrick Winters, Michael Clement, Cheruvari Dharan

Publication number: 20070113760Abstract: A tire cage is disclosed for containing the debris from a tire explosion. The cage includes a lightweight energy absorbing material for protecting structural members of the cage from tire explosion damage so that the cage is reusable. The energy absorbing material may be a metallic foam or other open celled structured material that is able to absorb large amounts of kinetic energy by permanently deforming. The cage is particularly effective in containing explosions of large equipment tires 6 to 12 feet in diameter and having a stored kinetic energy in a range of approximately 900 kilojoules to 1500 kilojoules.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 26, 2007Publication date: May 24, 2007Applicant: Goldcorp Canada Ltd.Inventors: Scott Munroe, Donald Wilson
