  • Patent number: 7228741
Abstract: An apparatus and method aligning magnetically coupled inspection probes are provided. In this regard, a tracking probe may be magnetically coupled to a driven probe and move in coordination therewith. An alignment compensator for magnetically coupled inspection probes offsets misalignments between a driven probe and a tracking probe. Misalignments between magnetically coupled probes may be caused by gravity, friction, and movement of the probes. An alignment compensator may use one or more magnets, or electromagnets, to improve the alignment of the probes. An alignment compensator may include a control system for adjusting the power to an electromagnet or repositioning a magnet to offset misalignment of probes.

  • Patent number: 7228757
Abstract: In an adjustable foot pedal assembly for a vehicle, a brake pedal is supported on a carrier, which is adjustable fore and aft. A brake valve has a valve body fixed relative to the path of carrier movement, and a plunger movable in a direction transverse to the path of carrier movement. A transfer arm, pivoted on the carrier, is operatively connected to the foot pedal and the plunger, for effecting movement of the plunger in response to depression of the foot pedal so that the relationship between the movement of the foot pedal and the responsive movement of the plunger is independent of the position of the carrier. The brake valve does not need to be moved as the pedal position is adjusted, and the brake pedal characteristics are therefore unaffected by adjustment of the position of the pedal.

  • Patent number: 7228778
Abstract: A pneumatic recoil reduction adapter for use with a barrel and breech of an existing explosives disarmer. The adapter substantially reduces and, indeed, achieves near-total recoil reduction of recoil using venturi-venting rather than damping liquids, spring-damped shot tubes or other unwieldy mechanics. The recoil reduction adapter is formed with a central chamber to seat a cartridge and a plurality of axially extending passages leading outward from the central chamber through a corresponding plurality of radially-spaced venturi nozzles. Upon firing, exhaust gases are vented rearwardly back through the central chamber and outward through the venturi nozzles to offset and thereby reduce recoil forces.

  • Patent number: 7228779
Abstract: An automatic primer feed mechanism for use with a carrier assembly of a large caliber artillery piece, which includes mechanical assemblies for automatic primer loading after full breech closure and allows for spent primer cartridges to be extracted before opening of the breech to maximize safety, thereby allowing the gun crew to perform artillery piece misfire, sticker and check fire operations before the breech is opened. The mechanism includes a body member that mounts the automatic feed mechanism to the carrier of the artillery piece so as to interface with the carrier to position the mechanism on one side of the breech of the artillery piece. The body member includes a cam surface member, which provides a path for movement of an injection arm member. The tray member has guide rails for engagement with the body, which slides in relation thereto. A magazine containing a plurality of primer cartridges, which inserts in a receiver channel located in the tray member.

  • Patent number: 7228781
Abstract: The invention relates to hydraulic control in a hydraulic system for the operation of a machine tool such as a press for processing material of a certain type, especially for the operation of the scrap cutters. Said control allows for impact attenuation and combined rapid motion switching with load compensation and transfer of a hydraulic medium of a hydraulic cylinder for the movement of the other. According to the invention, said control comprises hydraulic media of a hydraulic cylinder for pre-control of a first main valve element (2.4.0), a second main valve element (2.7.0) and a third main valve element (3.7.0) which are functionally combined and a fourth valve (2.5).

  • Patent number: 7228782
Abstract: A boom-holding control device brings an excavator boom into a holding condition or a release condition. The device includes a boom-holding valve provided on a fluid pressure line for preventing boom deadweight-caused drainage of a hydraulic flow from a boom cylinder to thereby keep a boom in a holding condition, a boom release valve for releasing the boom from the holding condition in response to at least one of a boom-down pilot signal pressure supplied from a boom cylinder remote control valve and a travel signal pressure fed from a travel control operator-interface device and a solenoid-actuated changeover valve provided on a travel signal line for selectively opening and blocking off the travel signal line. The changeover valve is normally kept in a closing position and will be shifted to an opening position at the time of simultaneous activation of a travel selection switch and a boom release switch.
