Abstract: A light source for projection system is installed on a projector and employs the field emission property between a cathode and an anode to stimulate a fluorescent powder layer for the same to emit light. The projection light source has sufficient brightness without the problems of producing high amount of heat and short service life. The high brightness of the light source enhances the quality of images projected by the projector and largely increases the economic effects of the projector.

Abstract: A multicolor organic light emitting device employs vertically stacked layers of double heterostructure devices which are fabricated from organic compounds. The vertical stacked structure is formed on a glass base having a transparent coating of ITO or similar metal to provide a substrate. Deposited on the substrate is the vertical stacked arrangement of three double heterostructure devices, each fabricated from a suitable organic material. Stacking is implemented such that the double heterostructure with the longest wavelength is on the top of the stack. This constitutes the device emitting red light on the top with the device having the shortest wavelength, namely, the device emitting blue light, on the bottom of the stack. Located between the red and blue device structures is the green device structure.

The prescribed current is set so that the detection voltage in case of the middle range frequency becomes lower than that in case of the end frequency. Capacitor 106 constituting integration circuit starts suppression of operation of circuit 10 when lamp 13 is started, and holds the suppression during at least start mode. Accordingly, it is possible to stably start lamp 13 and control stress on circuit(s) after lamp 13 is successfully started.

Abstract: An electronic dimming ballast comprises a filament turn-off circuit for controlling the magnitudes of filament voltages supplied to the filaments of a gas discharge lamp. Each of a plurality of filament windings is directly coupled to one of the filaments and is operable to supply a small AC filament voltage to the filaments. The plurality of filament windings and a control winding are loosely magnetically coupled to a resonant inductor of an output circuit of the ballast. A controllably conductive device is coupled across the control winding. When the controllably conductive device is conductive, the voltage across the control winding and the filament windings falls to zero volts. The controllably conductive device is driven with a pulse-width modulated (PWM) signal so as to control the magnitudes of the filament voltages. The filament voltages are provided to the filaments before striking the lamp, and when dimming the lamp near low end.

The sensing member is provided on a circuit substrate on which the activation circuit is formed in such a manner as to be allowed to sense the induced voltage. The activation current flows in response to the activation voltage produced by the activation circuit. The operation state notification signal indicates whether or not the activation circuit has operated normally. The lighting-drive circuit, the activation circuit and the activation operation detector are integrated into one single component.

Abstract: A control circuit of a DC/DC converter is provided for supplying a driving voltage to a light emitting element. A hysteresis comparator compares a detection voltage that corresponds to the output voltage of the DC/DC converter with two threshold voltages. If the detection voltage is smaller than the lower threshold voltage, the hysteresis comparator outputs a comparison signal at the low level. Otherwise, the comparison signal is set to the high level. The switching control unit uses the comparison signal as a reference. The switching control unit instructs the switching transistor of the DC/DC converter to perform the switching operation during a period when the comparison signal is at the low level. Otherwise, the switching operation is suspended. The control circuit inhibits light emission of the light emitting element during a period when the comparison signal is at the low level. Otherwise, the control circuit permits the light emission.

Abstract: A cold-cathode tube lighting device uniformly lights a plurality of cold-cathode tubes using a common power source, and maintains the luminance of each cold-cathode tube uniformly in the longitudinal direction thereof at high precision. A first block converts a direct-current voltage to one pair of alternating-voltages. Since leakage impedances of step-up transformers are low, the first block functions as one pair of low-impedance power sources. Each second block is connected to each cold-cathode tube. A ballast inductor stabilizes tube current by resonating with a matching capacitor during lighting of the cold-cathode tube. A combined impedance of the matching capacitor and a peripheral stray capacitance is matched with an impedance of the ballast inductor, for each cold-cathode tube. Since a delay circuit shifts phases of two pulse waves with respect to each other, a phase difference between the alternating-voltages is shifted from 180°.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for generating light such as ultraviolet light from excimer-forming gases. Gases are excited by radio frequency alternating current powered electrodes (200, 210) to form excimers that will decay and emit vacuum ultraviolet light. The halogen concentration is optimized so as to optimize emissions from halogen excimers (Z2*) or mixed rare gas/halogen excimers (RGZ*). Emissions from rare gas excimers (RG2*) are maximized by maintaining the gas in the discharge region at a relatively low temperature, desirably below 700° K, so that the average kinetic energy of gas particles is less than the vibrational excitation energy of the excimer and substantially less than the dissociation energy of the excimer. Relatively large electrodes (202, 204) can be used to cool the plasma.
