  • Patent number: 7237899
Abstract: Single imager projection systems suffer from low light throughput, compared to three imager systems, because only one color band is illuminated at any one time. As a result, there is a need to increase the operating efficiency of the single imager projection system. The invention is directed to the incorporation of a high extinction ratio pre-polarizer, such as a compensated, multi-layer polarizer, in a single or dual imager projection system. This permits illumination with low f-number illumination light, and thus increases the efficiency of the projection system. The pre-polarizer may be incorporated within a polarization recovery unit to further enhance system efficiency.

  • Patent number: 7237903
Abstract: A scaler unit writes an input video signal into a frame memory and scales the number of pixels of the input video signal to any number of pixels when the input video signal is read out from the frame memory. A display device displays a picture based on the video signal. A projection lens projects the picture displayed on the display device onto a screen. A control unit controls the scaler unit so as to scale the number of pixels of the input video signal to a smaller number of pixels than the maximum displayable number of pixels of the display device. The scaler unit shifts the picture displayed on the display device to a desired position in the displayable region on the display device by changing the timing of the vertical and horizontal superimposition of the video signal according to an instruction from an operating device.

  • Patent number: 7237930
Abstract: The invention is directed to a lighting system having a reflector, light sources and a light control member sequentially disposed from a light incident side to a light outgoing side. Preferably used for large displays requiring high uniformity, this invention eliminates lamp image and removes the necessity to do light source repositioning, while enabling luminance in the exit plane to achieve excellent luminosity and uniformity. This invention achieves total light transmittance of more than 50% when light is incident at a predetermined angle a from the normal direction of the incident plane and achieves 1.05–3 times more total light transmittance than when the light is from a direction normal to the incident plane. This is achieved by the light control member by controlling the ratio between total light transmittance in the positions of greater transmittance and the total transmittance in the positions of lesser transmittance.

Abstract: By inserting a light source bulb into a reflector from a side thereof at a position apart downwardly from an optical axis, it is made possible to use an area situated on a side of the optical axis effectively for controlling the light distribution of a vehicle headlamp. In addition, by providing an additional reflector between the light source bulb and a shade for reflecting light from a light source laterally outwardly and diagonally forward of a vehicle through a gap between the reflector and a projection lens, a diffused area of a low beam light-distribution pattern is illuminated brightly and the diffused area is expanded laterally outwardly of the vehicle.

Abstract: A vehicular lamp has a plurality of light source modules for emitting light. Each of the light source modules has a semiconductor light-emitting element, a lighting circuit operable to control an electric current flowing into the semiconductor light-emitting element to turn the semiconductor light-emitting element on and off, a power cable operable to supply electric power from a power source located outside the vehicular lamp to the lighting circuit, a control cable operable to transmit a control signal that controls turning the semiconductor light-emitting element on and off to the lighting circuit, and a mounting substrate that mounts the semiconductor light-emitting element and the lighting circuit. One of the light source modules is connected to the power source by means of said power cable. The light source modules other than the one light source module are connected to the one light source module in parallel via the power cable.

Abstract: A lighting assembly and its method of manufacture. The lighting assembly has a heat sink. A plurality of surfaces are disposed on the front of the heat sink. At least one first surface is oriented in a first plane and at least one second surface is oriented in a second plane. A first plurality of light sources are mounted to at least one first surface. A second plurality of light sources are mounted to at least one second surface. As a consequence, light can be directed in two distinct directions to create a discernable high beam condition and low beam condition. A space is defined in front of the light sources. At least one heat exchange element is provided that protrudes forward from a heat sink into the space thereby helping to vaporize any condensation that may form within that space.

Abstract: In a touch panel assembly, the thickness of a touch panel is successfully reduced by using a touch panel 10 provided with no reinforcement member. A housing frame 50 that supports the components of a front light unit 20 in an integral manner is provided with a touch panel positioning mechanism, and the touch panel 10 is fixed to the positioning mechanism, whereby the absence of a reinforcement member is duly compensated for, thus ensuring the strength of the touch panel 10. Deformation of the touch panel 10 that occurs when the touch panel 10 is pressed for operation can be attenuated by a transparent buffer member 5 disposed between the touch panel 10 and a light conductor plate 22. Therefore, the touch panel 10 deformed is prohibited from contacting and damaging the light conductor plate 22, thus preventing the light conductor plate 22 from deteriorating in its functional performance.
