  • Publication number: 20070160405
Abstract: There is provided a printer which can suppress the variations in rotation speed of a platen and the forwarding speed of a recording medium when a recording unit abuts on a platen through the recording medium. The printer of the present invention includes a platen, a recording unit, and a brake. The brake presses a friction member to a smooth side surface of a rotation gear fixed a rotation shaft of the platen from the time point before the recording unit abuts on the platen through the recording medium. Accordingly, the platen rotates while constantly receiving a braking force by the braking device. Therefore, even though the recording unit abuts on the platen and the rotation speed of the platen is varied, the pulsation of the platen is suppressed.

Abstract: A printer (2) for printing security cards (14) in which two pairs of pinch rollers (22, 24) convey a substrate (14) past a print head (20). A cam follower (42) is driven by a cam (40) and is mounted on shafts of lower rollers (22a, 24a) of the pinch rollers and a shaft of a platen roller (32). The cam follower can be moved to act against upper rollers (22b, 24b) of the pinch rollers and the print head, in order to bring the pinch rollers or the print head in and out of engagement with the substrate. The printer may also include a return device (70) to urge the substrate back towards a pair of pinch rollers. The rollers can then be reversed, enabling multiple passes of the substrate past the print head or a magnetic strip encoder (36). The substrate can also be inserted and removed via a single slot (12) in the housing of the printer.

Abstract: The invention relates to a self-boring and thread-forming tapping screw having a screw shaft with a screw tip at one end and at the other end a force application member for the transmission of a turning moment. The screw shaft includes a threaded section with the screw tip and an adjacent thread-free section of the shaft including the force application member. The threaded section has a shaft core and a self-tapping thread. The threaded section includes a core section axially displaced from the tip and having a polygonal core cross section. Corners of the core cross section define an enveloping circle with an enveloping circle diameter larger than a shaft diameter of the thread-free section.

Abstract: A fastener includes a sleeve-like clamping element having a cavity extending in the direction of its longitudinal axis which accommodates a threaded stud. At least one clamping region is deformable into the cavity forming at least one clamping ramp inclined toward the longitudinal axis on an outside of the clamping element. A clamping sleeve pushed onto the clamping element in an installed state grips around the clamping element. A clamping sleeve inner surface cooperates with the clamping ramp so the clamping region reaches a clamping position deformed into the cavity to hold the threaded stud. The clamping element has a forward end flange in an installation direction. Coupling elements and mating coupling elements arranged on the flange and a clamping sleeve end facing the flange interlock in the installed state, preventing rotation between the clamping sleeve and clamping element.

Abstract: Non-prismatic shank fasteners, such as nails, for wood and similar soft materials have a plurality of longitudinal extending non-congruent sections having different geometries, different configurations, and varying diameters such that the shank has the widest nominal diameter arranged to span a joint between wood members being fastened. The shank has four circumferentially symmetrically disposed grooves and ridges having dimensions within pre-determined ranges such that the ridges have sufficient strength to withstand the forces imposed on the shank being driven into the parent material and to resist loads imposed upon them by the loads to the parent material. The grooves have a sufficiently wide jaw opening to allow elastically compressed parent material to enter the groove and provide support to the shank. The non-prismatic grooved shanks demonstrate significantly greater load handling capability than that possessed by other known types of fasteners.

Abstract: The device for transporting segments of wood comprises an annular binding made of a material that is biodegradable and combustible. The binding can thus be burnt in a fireplace after it has been used. Said binding comprises two binding rings and spacers, the rings and the spacers being assembled together by means of them having co-operating shapes. Wedges make it possible to hold the segments of wood in position, without having to use a clamping band.
