Abstract: This invention provides a method and system for environmental reclamation and removal of organic chemical contaminants and fluid spills employing a liquefied or solid wax system to capture, to improve the ease of recovery for spilled oil, and to preserve the oil for later complete reclamation. The present system enables the easy application of a waxy composition having a solidus-liquidus transformation temperature (TC) above that of seawater and below that endangering human life during application (approximately 120-180° F.). The present invention enables application of liquefied wax or a solid wax particle or block to the water-containing oil from a top and a bottom surface with equal effect. The present system also enables reclamation and recovery of oil-saturated particulates that are heated, while preserving the oil and wax for later recapturing and separation.

Abstract: A grain processor comprises a conveyor, air-suction means, and air-blowing means. The conveyor has a surface defining a conveying course on which grains are disposed, and the surface has holes smaller than the grains. The air above the surface is sucked downward through the holes by the air-suction means. The air-blowing means blows air upward through the holes at a predetermined position in the conveying course so as to apply blowing-up force onto the conveyed grains on the surface reaching the predetermined position.

For this purpose an internal-combustion engine (2) operates an electric generator (10), two pumps (17, 33) for conveying water coming from the outside to osmotic membranes (8, 9): along the water flow path between the first and the second pump (17, 33) the flow is split up so as to maintain 47 predefined pressure conditions at the intake of the second pump (33). This ensures uniform operation of the latter even when there is variation in the number of revolutions of the engine.

Abstract: A pool skimmer to operate independently of a pool filter pump. A pool skimmer has a bucket assembly similar to pool skimmers that use the filter pump to create a suction to draw and hold surface floating debris inside the pool skimmer where the debris can be removed from the bucket assembly and emptied. However, instead of using the pool filter pump, a sealed electrical pump assembly uses a rotatable magnetic assembly inside the sealed pump body. A magnetic impeller fits within the pump body and rotates in response to rotation of the magnetic assembly inside the sealed pump body. This creates a water flow forcing water out of the bucket assembly in contrast to using a filter pump to suck water through the bucket assembly as in conventional technology. Because each pool skimmer operates independently of others and of the filter pump, they may be located without regard to filter pump efficiencies. Moreover, the suction created is not enough to create a health hazard for users, especially small children.

Abstract: The invention relates to methods of isolating white blood cells (WBCs) from a sample, e.g., whole blood, using magnetic particles that specifically bind to WBCs and a series of specific steps and conditions. The methods can include one or more of decreasing the viscosity of the sample prior to WBC isolation, agitating the sample at specified frequencies, and/or using a sample container arranged such that all of the sample is placed in close proximity (e.g., within 5, 2, 1, or 0.5 mm) to the source of the magnetic field. The new methods provide for isolation of WBC preparations with high yield, purity, and viability. The methods are designed for compatibility with automation protocols for rapid processing of multiple samples.

Abstract: A method for monitoring the composition and flow rate of wastes discharged from industrial waste water treatment facilities into a common collection system for eventual processing at central waste water treatment plant (WWTP). The information is transmitted to a remote computer and stored in a database, and is then analyzed to prepare reports of particular interest to the receiving WWTP or treatment facility. The system includes a data collection and sending unit, a remote Internet Server computer with a database capable of receiving and storing the collected information, and a web server and reporting unit to analyze the data, prepare reports, and send out alarms. It is a further intention of this invention to correlate the incoming data from said industrial waste water treatment plants with known flows and compositions at said central WWTP to predict the flow and composition of influx water at the WWTP.

The system includes first and second circulation systems, first and second balance tanks, and a side stream. The first circulation system circulates water through the first food processing loop. The first balance tank connected to the first circulation system refurbishes effluent water circulating through the first food processing loop. The second circulation system circulates water through the second food processing loop. The second balance tank connected to the second circulation system refurbishes effluent water circulating through the second food processing loop. Abstract: Systems and methods are described for separating components of aqueous mixtures, including aqueous solutions and suspensions. In one implementation, an apparatus flows the aqueous mixture over a hydrophilic surface to form a first region of purified water and a second region of at least one concentrated non-aqueous component. The apparatus can draw off either the purified water or the concentrated non-aqueous components. In one implementation, an array of tubules performs the differential extraction. In another implementation, various hydrophilic and/or hydrophobic surfaces are disposed in multiple differential extractors and some effluents may be recycled to perform complex assaying and separation.

Abstract: Forward osmosis is utilized to dispense chemicals into a process water system such as a cooling tower, chilled water system, boiler, or pulp and paper plant. The dispenser includes a flexible pouch filled with treatment chemicals and an osmotic membrane. The dispenser is placed in the process water system. Water passing through the membrane increases internal pressure, which forces chemical into the process water system. The exposed surface area of the osmotic membrane can be altered to control dispensing rate. The apparatus can either utilize the chemical treatment agent as the osmotic agent, or can be divided into two separate areas utilizing a separate osmotic agent such as sodium chloride. The dispenser can be positioned in the process water system at a location where water flows onto the osmotic membrane only when the process water system is in operation.
