  • Patent number: 7246620
Abstract: A noninvasive system for monitoring the oxygen saturation level of a person subjected to reduced atmospheric pressure for avoiding hypoxemia. The system monitors a person's oxygen saturation level, comparing the saturation level to a predetermined level. When the measured saturation level is less than the predetermined level, the person is then supplied with an oxygen mixture for increasing the subject's oxygen saturation level to a safe level. The person's exposed reduced atmospheric pressure is also compared with a predetermined range of pressure levels. If this predetermined range of pressure levels is exceeded or maintained for a predetermined time duration, the person is then supplied with an oxygen mixture. Additionally, a device is provided for performing oxygen flight planning calculations for estimating oxygen usage for a predetermined flight plan that is based on the above system.

A further feature of the invention is the use of an air clearance between mold parts that is sufficient to allow air to escape but insufficient to allow molten metal to flow therepast.

Abstract: A twin roll casting machine that can reduce an amount of inert gas to be fed for prevention of oxidization. The machine includes an enclosure enclosing a strip in a range from chilled rolls to pinch rolls, a first swing wall within the enclosure and having a tip end movable toward and away from a surface of the strip, a sealing roll rotatably supported by the tip end of the first swing wall, a second swing wall within the enclosure and having a tip end movable toward and away from the other surface of the strip, a sealing roll rotatably supported by the tip end of the second swing wall, sealing members between peripheral edges of the swing walls and an inner surface of the enclosure, and conduits for supplying inert gas into the enclosure. The respective swing walls are swung to bring the sealing rolls close to the strip to thereby suppress flow of the inert gas from a first space to a second space.

  • Patent number: 7246652
Abstract: A method to recover wax from wax patterns used in investment casting using a lost wax technique without damaging incorporated ceramic cores is disclosed that includes subjecting the wax pattern to specific conditions. These conditions include chilling a casting tool including the wax pattern and ceramic cores such that a brittle transition temperature for the wax material is approached. Once chilled the wax pattern is subjected to brittle fracture release of the wax from the underlying ceramic cores without damage to those cores.

Abstract: A process for manufacturing a blade of a turbomachine using the lost-wax moulding technique, where the blade includes a first central longitudinal cavity and at least one second longitudinal cavity together forming a cooling circuit and communicating with each other at one longitudinal end via a transverse channel. The process includes manufacturing first and second cores corresponding to the cavities, where the two cores each have an end portion, by which they are connected together by an assembly of the mortise and tenon type. The assembly of the two cores is then positioned in a shell mould and the metal poured into the mould.

Abstract: A heat dissipating device includes multiple self-aligning, interconnecting fins linked together. Each self-aligning, interconnecting fin has a first side edge, a second side edge, an inside surface, an outside surface, multiple alignment arms, and multiple outer connecting tabs. The alignment arms perpendicularly extend respectively from the first side edge and the second side edge and have distal ends and multiple inclined edges. The inclined edges press respectively against inclined edges of corresponding alignment arms on an adjacent fin. Then the outer connecting tabs are bent inward against the inside surface of the adjacent fin to hold the fins together securely.

Abstract: A vehicle air conditioner has an IR sensor that detects a temperature of air inside a vehicle compartment. The IR sensor is disposed on an instrument panel so that the sensor is disposed above switches and a face blowout port on the instrument panel. Accordingly, a detecting range of the IR sensor is prevented from interfering by hands of a driver or an occupant even when the switches are operated by the driver. Thus, the air conditioner is capable of stable air conditioning.

Abstract: In an air conditioner for a vehicle having first and second air conditioning zones positioned at right and left sides of a front seat in a vehicle compartment and third and fourth air conditioning zones positioned at right and left sides of a rear seat in the vehicle compartment, the air conditioner includes calculating means for calculating each of target blowing-out temperatures of air blown out to the first to fourth air conditioning zones in accordance with environmental conditions and desirable temperatures of the first to fourth air conditioning zones. In the air conditioner, the calculating means corrects an influence from the other air conditioning zones by using a selected desirable temperature in the desirable temperatures of the first to fourth air conditioning zones, while calculating the individual target blowing-out temperatures of the first to fourth air conditioning zones.

  • Patent number: 7246658
Abstract: A heat exchanger extracts heat from a two-phase fluid coolant so that the coolant changes from a vapor state to a liquid state. Two valves have respective inlets which communicate with the coolant in the heat exchanger, and which are physically spaced from each other. Valve control structure responds to the presence of liquid at the inlet to either valve by opening that valve, so that the liquid coolant flows through the valve to a discharge section. A different feature involves a housing with a heat exchanger therein, the heat exchanger having a plurality of coolant conduits that are axially spaced. A flow of air travels axially within the housing, then flows transversely past the conduits to the other side thereof, and then resumes flowing axially on the other side of the conduits.

  • Patent number: 7246662
Abstract: A device for determining a location of an interface between a first fluid and second fluid includes a non-mechanical sensor that measures a selected parameter of interest relating to the fluid surrounding the sensor (“the surrounding fluid”) and a processor for processing the sensor measurements. The non-mechanical sensor measures a parameter relating to the surround fluid without physically co-acting with the surrounding fluid. Exemplary parameters such as thermal properties, electrical properties, fluid properties, and magnetic properties can be measured. The processor is programmed to process the sensor measurements to identify one or more characteristics in the measurements that can indicate the nature of the fluid being measured and thereby determine the location of the interface. The determined location can be used to operate a downhole device such as a pump, to provide real-time monitoring of well conditions, to record data for long-term reservoir characterization, or to actuate an alarm.
