Publication number: 20070181444Abstract: The present invention generally relates to sensors configured to sense concentrations of nitric oxide. The sensors of the present invention generally comprise a selectively permeable membrane, a semi-permeable reference electrode, and a sensing electrode. The membrane generally comprises a dispersed solid electrolyte. The solid electrolyte generally is a nitric oxide trapping agent configured to stabilize the nitric oxide to form stable, oxidizable nitric oxide complexes. The nitric oxide complexes may then diffuse through the membrane and the reference electrode to the sensing electrode where they are oxidized. An electrical current indicative of the concentration of the nitric oxide generated by the oxidation may be transmitted from the sensor to a picoammeter, which may be configured to measure the electrical current and to signal to a user of the sensor the concentration of the nitric oxide.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 13, 2006Publication date: August 9, 2007Applicant: UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATIInventors: Jonathan Bernstein, Rakesh Govind

Publication number: 20070181484Abstract: A water treatment system includes a filter module and a reverse osmosis module secured to the filter module. The filter module contains two filter cartridges. The modular structure of the components enables the filter module to have the two filter cartridges connected as separate pre and post filters or connected in series as a single two-stage filter. Similarly the modularity permits multiple reverse osmosis modules to be connected is a daisy chain manner for increased treatment capacity. A novel bracket structure aligns ports of the filter module with corresponding ports on the reverse osmosis module.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 7, 2006Publication date: August 9, 2007Inventors: Richard Reckin, Duane Freimuth, Kenneth Sieth

Publication number: 20070181485Abstract: This invention is directed to systems and methods for removing lipids from a fluid or from lipid-containing organisms from a fluid, such as plasma. These systems combine a fluid with at least one extraction solvent, which causes the lipids to separate from the fluid or from the lipid-containing organisms. The separated lipids are removed from the fluid. The at least one extraction solvent is removed from the fluid or at least reduced to a concentration enabling the fluid to be administered to a patient without undesirable consequences. Once the fluid has been processed, the fluid may be administered to a patient who donated the fluid or to a different patient for therapy.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 20, 2007Publication date: August 9, 2007Applicant: Lipid Sciences, Inc.Inventors: David Bomberger, Bryan Chavez, Pablo Garcia, Eric Hegwer, Thomas Low, Ripudaman Malhotra, Jeffrey Shimon

Publication number: 20070181486Abstract: A drain basin insert having a housing, with the housing having a sidewall having a top edge and a bottom edge, and with the housing having a perforated base member secured to the sidewall at the lower edge of the sidewall, and with the housing having an outwardly extending flange at the top edge of the sidewall. The insert also includes a secondary filter means having a permeable container having hydrophobic filter media therein. The insert also has a perforated, rigid structural member having a bottom wall and a raised portion, with the raised portion attached to the bottom wall and extending upwardly therefrom. The insert also has a primary filter means having an outer sidewall, a bottom surface, and a central portion, with the bottom surface contacting the bottom wall of the perforated structural member, and with the central portion contacting the raised portion of the perforated structural member.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 6, 2006Publication date: August 9, 2007Inventor: Courtney Ashliman

Publication number: 20070181487Abstract: A valve failure protection device is provided for use in a fluid filter element of the type that includes a filter media that defines an inner passage having first and second ends and a bypass assembly positioned in the second flow path for selectively permitting flow through the first end and the inner passage to the second end. The valve failure protection device includes a perforated safety barrier adapted to be positioned in the inner passage downstream of the bypass assembly. The safety barrier is dimensioned to prevent the bypass assembly or pieces thereof from passing therethrough while permitting the flow of fluid along the inner passage to the second end.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 4, 2007Publication date: August 9, 2007Inventor: Timothy Henderson

Publication number: 20070181488Abstract: A method for manufacturing a filter device having filter means, in particular hollow-fibre membranes, arranged in more than one filtration compartment within a filter housing. For example a dialysis type filtration process such as haemofiltration or haemodiafiltration or haemodialysis may be carried out at the same time as an ultrafiltration process or as another haemofiltration, haemodiafiltration or haemodialysis process. A split shell is bonded or welded together along longitudinal seams. Internal separating walls within the housing are formed integrally with the shell portions of the housing to form adjacent filtration compartments when the housing portions are joined together.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 17, 2007Publication date: August 9, 2007Applicant: GAMBRO LUNDIA ABInventors: Jurgen Dannenmaier, Manfred Pirner, Hermann Goehl

Publication number: 20070181490Abstract: With the subject invention, a method is provided for preparing a filter membrane including the steps of dispersing a liquid which is generally hydrophobic into the pores of a porous membrane, and applying a solution containing lipids onto at least a first surface of the porous membrane containing the liquid. Advantageously, the subject invention allows for filter membranes to be prepared which can be stored for periods of time without degradation in performance. The subject invention may have applicability in various contexts, but is well-suited for preparing filter membranes for permeability screening particularly Parallel Artificial Membrane Permeability Assay (PAMPA).Type: ApplicationFiled: October 25, 2006Publication date: August 9, 2007Applicant: BECTON DICKINSON AND COMPANYInventors: Xiaoxi Chen, Charles Crespi

Publication number: 20070181492Abstract: A chip carrying type chip filtration and discharge device for separating chips from a cutting lubricant including the chips produced by metal cuttings such as cutting and grinding. The device comprises an apron type conveyor inversed on a conveyor tail part side and a chip carry-out part side and rotatingly running and a filtration drum disposed on the inside of the apron type conveyor. The device is characterized in that a bucket is installed on the inside of the apron type conveyor and, after the chips accumulated at a conveyor tail part is collected by the rotation of the conveyor, the chips are discharged to the outside of the conveyor, and an opening part for flowing out the cutting lubricant after being filtrated by a filtration filter is formed in the filtration drum.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 15, 2005Publication date: August 9, 2007Inventors: Tadao Uchiyama, Hyouichi Takahashi
