Abstract: A tire consisting of a tread, two exterior sidewalls, and a plurality of interior support walls mounted to a rim and/or a run-flat support ring which provides for at least three pressure zones inside the tire. These differing zones provide multiple run-flat stages reducing the likelihood of complete pressure loss when the tire is punctured. These pressure zones also provide for the contact patch to be adjusted to the current driving conditions. When mounted to a vehicle where camber changes during cornering, these differing air zones provide for an extended contact patch during cornering by exchanging air pressure between the inside shoulder and the outside shoulder of the tire.

Abstract: The heat-shrinkable cylindrical label of the invention comprises a laminated substrate made of two or more layers which have an outer layer sheet and an inner layer sheet. In one side end section of this label substrate, an outer layer sheet exposure section having no inner layer sheet is formed. This outer layer sheet exposure section is overlapped with the other end section of the front face of the label substrate to form a center seal section. In such a heat-shrinkable cylindrical label, the center seal section can be formed without interposing the inner layer sheet. Accordingly, the center seal section does not become thick. Abstract: A system for converting a sliding patio screen door into a self-closing door through the use of an easily attachable hollow cylindrical tube attached vertically to the outer frame of the sliding door. The tube contains a hole in the top cap that allows a fine monofilament to extend through it and attach to the inner frame of the sliding screen door. The monofilament is attached to a weight on its other end inside the tube. When the door is opened through the application of manual force, the weight is lifted inside the tube. Once the force is released, the weight is returned through gravity to its rest position, thereby pulling the door closed.

Abstract: Hardwood pulp rejects at a given Kappa number can be reduced by subjecting the hardwood pulp to specified cooking conditions at the end of cooking. In this regard, it has been discovered that s-lignin reacts faster than g-lignin and that there exists a higher proportion of g-lignin at the end of a hardwood cook as compared to the g-lignin present at the beginning of the cook. Thus, when cooking hardwoods, relatively harsher cooking conditions (e.g., higher cooking temperatures) at the end of the cooking have been discovered to decrease the g-lignin content which in turn decreases the percentage of pulp rejects at a given Kappa number.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of preparing a starch-based composition, characterised in that it comprises: (a) mixing a starch substrate with sodium perborate; (b) adding water to the mix of step (a) to form a slurry; and (c) pasting the slurry of step (b), provided that the method does not include, between steps (b) and (c), the step of adding an effective amount of hydrolytic enzyme to the slurry. The invention further relates to starch-based compositions prepared in accordance with said method, paper sizing and/or coating compositions comprising said starch-based compositions and paper products treated with said sizing and/or coating compositions.

Abstract: The temperature of the ceramic elements of a supporting or wiping strip that is assigned to a wire or a felt in a paper production facility, is controlled by guiding a cooling carrier medium or a heating carrier medium through the supporting or wiping strip. For that purpose, the supporting or wiping strip is formed with at least one channel, through which the carrier medium for heat or for cold is pumped.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing an investment cast article is disclosed. The method comprises positioning an insert relative to a sacrificial form, the insert comprising a first portion and a second portion, the first portion being disposed inside the sacrificial form and the second portion being disposed outside the sacrificial form. The sacrificial form and the second portion of the insert are coated with a material, forming a shell surrounding the sacrificial form and the second portion of the insert. The sacrificial form is evacuated from the shell, followed by introducing molten metal into the evacuated shell, thereby providing a metal form, and resulting in the first portion of the insert being disposed and bonded inside the metal form. The shell is removed from the metal form and the second portion of the insert, thereby resulting in the metal form with the first portion of the insert disposed and bonded therein.
