Abstract: A chain-stitch quilting machine and method provide for driving the needles and loopers independently or out of phase, and particularly during the starting of a stitching sequences. Separate drive motors, for example, servo motors, drive a needles separately from the corresponding loopers, or alternatively, a single motor drives needles and loopers that are linked through a differential drive or variably-controllable linkage to move differently, for example, shifting the phase of the needles relative to the loopers. The feature is useful at the beginning of a stitch sequence, by driving the needles and loopers separately in a split start manner. The first stitches can be reliably formed by, for example, advancing the looper ahead of the needle to insure the looper enters a needle thread loop before the needle enters a looper thread loop at the beginning of a stitch chain. Then the needle and looper can be brought into phase late in the first stitch cycle and sew in a predictable fashion.

The device is characterized by a single pan into which a movable hinged roller can be easily rotated for wetting wallpaper and an angled cover for easy drawing of the wetted wallpaper. The apparatus is meant to be constructed from lightweight materials (particularly plastic or polystyrene) such that it can be easily transported and used by a single individual. A second embodiment of the portable device includes a counter that gives a read-out of the length of wallpaper and a sliding cutter member for cutting defined lengths of wallpaper.

Abstract: In a measurement mechanism for continuously measuring a thickness of a coating layer, provided in an apparatus for forming the coating layer on a conductive elongate base material in a coating treatment base station while the base material is fed, a sensing portion for measuring a capacitance value of the coating layer is arranged before and after the base station, and tension applied to the base material at the sensing portion is set to be greater than tension applied to the base material at the base station. Thus, in forming the coating layer on the elongate base material while the base material is continuously fed, variation in a feeding speed is suppressed, influence of sway of a measurement surface in a direction of thickness at the thickness sensing portion during feeding is minimized, and a thickness of the coating layer can be measured with higher accuracy.

Abstract: A semiconductor manufacturing apparatus is provided with a gas injection nozzle as a member made of aluminum nitride ceramics free from ittria (Y2O3) as a sintering agent. Since no ittrium (Y) is deposited on a surface of the nozzle, preferentially fluorinated portions are decreased. Therefore, adhesion with a precoating film is improved to thereby suppress generation of particles during deposition. Since the readily fluorinated portions are reduced, fluorination of the entire nozzle can be suppressed to thereby lengthen the life of the member. It is therefore possible to provide the semiconductor manufacturing apparatus capable of achieving a high operation rate and a high semiconductor production yield.

Abstract: This invention is an improved base for holding a removable bowl or liner, such as is used in a pet feeder. An elevating means, such as a lever, spring or fluid or gas cylinder, made a part of the base, and generally beneath the removable bowl or liner, raises the removable bowl or liner above the surface of the base to permit an operator a more sanitary removal of the used bowl or liner. The method of this invention permits the sanitary removal of a liner or bowl element from the base by an elevating means.

Abstract: A method of housing a gerbil or like pet. Sections of cardboard are formed into a first housing structure for the pet, and the structure is placed in a container whose walls are transparent or have openings through which the container's interior can be viewed. The container is closed after placing the pet in the housing structure, and pieces of the cardboard sections start to accumulate at the bottom of the container as the pet chews on the sections. Some of the chewed pieces form bedding for the pet while other pieces absorb pet waste. Once the housing structure is substantially chewed into pieces, the container is opened and the chewed pieces are removed. A second housing structure formed of cardboard sections is placed in the container, and the container is closed after the pet is placed in the second housing structure.

Abstract: A horse and/or livestock brush assembly releases a fluid and/or liquid solution directly onto the coat of an animal during brushing. The brush assembly includes a brush base attached to a hose and flow regulator. The brush base comprises a flexible deformable membrane with a plurality of apertures that are, optionally, aligned with apertures in brush bristles for delivery of the fluid and/or liquid solution, and is fitted within a first opening of an internal cavity in a brush base. Delivery of the fluid or liquid solution is controlled by way of the flow regulator. An optional mixing chamber housing a water soluble compound containing active ingredients may be attached to the flow regulator to form a liquid solution. The liquid solution includes perfumes, fragrances and other active compositions including insect repellant, hair conditioners, dyes, moisturizers, or antibacterial compounds. The fluid and/liquid is delivered directly to the animal's fur or hair while brushing the coat.

Abstract: A gas temperature control system for maintaining a desired economizer outlet gas temperature across a range of boiler loads comprises a plurality of tubular configurations having surfaces that are in contact with the flue gas. Each tubular configuration, preferably, comprises a plurality of serpentine or stringer tubes arranged horizontally or vertically back and forth within the economizer, and each tubular configuration having a separate feedwater inlet. Heat transfer from the flue gas is accomplished by controlling the feedwater flow rates through the tubular configurations. In a temperature control system having two tubular configurations, the overall heat transfer capacity of the economizer may be reduced to maintain the desired economizer outlet gas temperature during low boiler loads by reducing feedwater flow through one tubular configuration and by overflowing the other tubular configuration, such that total flow of feedwater through the economizer is maintained substantially constant.
