Abstract: A hole punch device that reduces the force required to create a hole in papers or other sheet media. A punch element of the hole punch device includes a locally sloped or indented floor to create a bend in the sheet media as it is punched to create an enlarged, oval hole. The punch pin may include an expanding sleeve surround the pin that forms a larger diameter during the cutting stroke and springs back to a smaller diameter during a pull out stroke. A coiled torsion return spring is positioned remotely from and non-coaxially with the punch pin. A keyed pin and support frame arrangement ensures a predetermined rotational orientation of the pin for sequential cutting for reduced cutting force. A long lead-in surface in the frame helps installing sheet media into the feed slot of the punch element.

Abstract: A portable data storage module comprises a control module, a wireless communication module, a rewriteable memory and a data transfer button. When the data transfer button is actuated, the portable data storage module wakes from a sleep mode and the control module initiates a data transfer via the wireless communication module with a device. After the data transfer, the portable data storage module reenters the sleep mode. The portable data storage module may be configured to transfer data, such as a trip plan, between a network host and an in-cab driver communication module. The portable data storage module may also store and maintain additional data, such as a driver log.

Abstract: A method and system of providing movies or other content is provided where a flash drive or flash memory card is used in place of DVD's or other formats. A user receives the content on the flash drive from a kiosk. The system ensures that a codec supported by the player of the user will be utilized to encode the content, or in certain embodiments a corresponding codec is provided along with the movie. Authentication and encryption mechanisms ensure that the movie is only provided to an authentic card and/or player from a kiosk, so that the movies cannot be provided to flash devices that do not have proper security mechanisms to safeguard the content or to those not authorized to otherwise receive the movie.

Abstract: A portable, battery-powered per-patient device automatically detects and logs patient encounters with items, such as medical equipment, drug containers, caregivers, visitors and other patients, in a healthcare facility. A separate per-patient device is assigned to each patient in the facility. The per-patient device is intended to remain with the patient during the patient's stay. The device may be attached to the patient's bed, wheelchair, walker or the like. If the patient is ambulatory, the patient may carry the device. RF-ID or other suitable tags are attached to items that a patient may encounter. Each per-patient device automatically detects and logs RF-ID-tagged items, including the patient, that come within a range of the device. The device also detects and longs when an item is no longer within range of the device, such as because a caregiver leaves the patient's room or a medical device is removed from the patient's room.

Abstract: A system and method are disclosed herein for allowing an account holder to deposit money in an account to allow an authorized purchaser to spend up to a pre-allocated amount of money for the purchase of goods or services from a predetermined merchant on a network in communication with a server. The account holder and authorized purchaser first enroll and registers at the allocation engine. The allocation engine verifies and authenticates the account holder using the verification details provided by the account holder during the registration process. Prior to a purchase, the identity of the authorized purchaser is first verified at the merchant premises. The allocation engine then processes the purchase request of the purchaser, by comparing the requested transaction information of the authorized purchaser to the permitted transactions authorized by the account holder as stored in the allocation engine.

The system comprises means for validating votes from collected virtual ballot forms. The validating means are arranged in such way that if a set of two or more virtual ballot forms associated with an identical voter is collected, one virtual ballot form of this set is validated as one valid vote of the voter. The remaining virtual ballot forms of the set are marked as duplicate, provided the virtual ballot forms of the set are identical as to the subject elected by the voter. Otherwise all virtual ballot forms of the set are marked invalid. Thereby effectively preventing double counting of valid votes, among others, due to network problems causing a virtual ballet form to be forwarded twice or even many more times.

Abstract: A mobile terminal incorporates a card removal unit having an elastic member in a battery mounting part formed on a rear surface of the terminal. A card is inserted into a card receiving part formed on one side of the battery mounting part contacting the elastic member. When the battery is inserted into the battery mounting part, one edge of the battery contacts the card and the card compresses the elastic member. The battery retains the card in the card receiving part when the battery is secured. When the battery is removed, the elastic member urges the card partially from the card receiving part thereby easing manual removal of the card. A locking rod may be provided to retain the card in the card receiving part when the battery is removed.

Abstract: A security mark having multiple optically orthogonal coaligned bar codes is produced using a reflection hologram visible substantially at only a first wavelength that is layered over a wavelength sensitive filter, which blocks light transmission at the first wavelength but transmits light at a second wavelength, and having beneath it an additional bar code visible through the hologram and the wavelength sensitive filter at the second wavelength. A validation means reads multiple holographic bar codes with light at the first wavelength by illuminating the hologram separately from multiple directions, and further reads the bar code beneath the wavelength sensitive filter by illuminating the mark with light of the second wavelength. By suitable choice of multi-directional and multi-wavelength illumination, multiple coaligned bar codes may be read in the same physical location with no mutual interference.

An illustrative multistage thermostat for a multistaged HVAC system installed within a building or structure can include a processor having a control algorithm adapted to operate the thermostat in either a normal mode for achieving rapid temperature changes within the building or structure or an economy mode for conserving energy usage. In the economy mode of operation, the thermostat can be configured to determine a target time for achieving a temperature setpoint by either delaying or suppressing activation of the system's auxiliary stage. The target time can be adjusted in part based on the past usage characteristics of the auxiliary stage, the behavior of the user, and/or the progress of the primary stage in achieving the setpoint change without operating the auxiliary stage.

In a preferred embodiment, an engine or equivalent power source [20] is provided. An oil pump [40] is mechanically connected to the engine [20]. A hydraulic motor [80] is hydraulically connected to the oil pump [40]. A reciprocating pump [100] is mechanically connected to the hydraulic motor [80]. The reciprocating pump [100] is connected to a one-way valve [120] which is connected in series with a pulsation dampener [130]. The pulsation dampener [130] dampens the pressured spikes of the slurry exiting the reciprocating pump [100].

Abstract: The present invention provides an automatic elevating device for shower or faucet, which is typically comprised of a hydraulic cylinders, pistons, push rods and valves; there are two ports built on the both ends of said hydraulic cylinder for attaching a valve on each, said piston is set upon the inside between the both ports of said hydraulic cylinder in motion fit, said push rod is fixed on said piston with one end, and another end is stretched out of the hydraulic cylinder, said shower head or faucet is mounted on the push rod, and said hydraulic cylinder is mounted on a static place, said valves are used for controlling on port of the hydraulic cylinder entering water and another port draining water so as to control said hydraulic cylinder elevating motion, or closes the both ports of the hydraulic cylinder to stop the hydraulic cylinder motion.
