Abstract: To provide an exhaust emission control device of an internal combustion engine able to well atomize a reducing agent and ensure supply of combustion air. Since a controller of the exhaust emission control device also controls a nozzle opening degree of a variable geometry turbocharger for purpose of spraying a urea water, even in the state where the engine works in a low load range of T1 to T2 where supercharging pressure normally can not be increased, supercharging pressure P suitable to atomization of the urea water can be obtained by controlling the nozzle opening degree of the variable geometry turbocharger to be closer to a closing side compared to the conventional art (shown by the chain double-dashed line), while the urea water can be securely atomized by a part of the supercharged air.

Abstract: A reciprocating engine includes a turbocharging unit that: supplies the intake manifold with air via a coolant; is supplied with gas by the exhaust manifold; and has the turbine supply pressure substantially equal to the compressor discharge pressure. At constant air temperature, the turbocharging unit delivers a substantially constant volume of cooled air when the pressure varies, and the volume is substantially proportional to the turbine outlet section. The turbine pressure is maintained substantially equal to compressor pressure by a EGR bypass between the intake and exhaust manifold. In addition, the volume of air is less than the volume drawn in at the speed so that a flow of hot gases is drawn in again via the bypass above the speed, where the volume drawn in is equal to the volume, and a flow of air is deflected towards the turbine below the speed.

Abstract: A plenum (210) in a gas turbine engine mid-frame section (200) comprises one or more annular flow splitters (240) spaced from an inboard annular wall (232) that partition air flow flowing from a compressor into two or more portions of flow having different vectors. This provides for an improved balancing between supplying air to compression chamber intakes more directly and to transitions to aid in convective cooling. When an annular diffuser (202) is spaced between the compressor and the plenum (210), the flow splitters (240) may provide an additional diffusion action. When no annular diffuser is so provided, the flow splitters (452, 454, 456) are effective to diffuse the air flow. Embodiments include those in which an annular diffuser (304) is relatively shorter and there is a longer axial expanse in the plenum (320) for flow splitters (350, 352, 354, 356).

Abstract: A method and system for reducing windage losses in compressor motors is provided. The compressor motor is cooled by circulating refrigerant from a closed refrigerant loop incorporating the compressor. A pumping device coupled to a liquid expander in the closed refrigerant loop circulates refrigerant through the motor cavity and produces a motor cavity pressure lower than evaporating pressure. The lower pressure in the motor cavity reduces the density of the gasses in the motor cavity, resulting in reduced windage losses of the motor. Additionally, the pumping device is powered by the recovered liquid expansion energy between the condenser and the evaporator.

Abstract: A process for producing tubes or rods is provided. The process includes providing a settable liquid and producing a strand by drawing the liquid from a nozzle in a drawing direction. The result of this is that the settable liquid emerges through an annular gap formed by the nozzle with the desired production throughput at the temperature which is above the devitrification temperature. The settable liquid cools as it flows down an outer and/or an inner surface of a displacement body so that, by the end of the displacement body, the settable liquid has a sufficiently high viscosity to be drawn in stable form at the desired production throughout without flowing more quickly than the drawing rate as a result of its own weight.

Abstract: In a known method for producing a hollow quartz-glass cylinder by means of the soot method , a porous soot tube with a central inner bore is produced by the deposition of SiO2 particles on the outer surface of a support that rotates about its longitudinal axis. The soot tube is then heated in a furnace and sintered. During said process, the tube is held by a retaining device, which comprises an elongated shaping element that projects into the inner bore. The soot tube collapses onto said shaping element thus forming the hollow cylinder. The aim of the invention is to develop said process to provide an economic method that can be used to obtain quartz-glass hollow cylinders with a narrower inner bore. To achieve this, during the sintering process, a pressure differential is at least temporarily generated and maintained between a lower internal pressure prevailing in the inner bore of the soot tube and a higher external pressure that exists outside the inner bore.
