Abstract: A rider surface maintenance vehicle with variable dynamic braking, in contrast to a mechanically-engaged braking system that uses a brake cable. A brake pedal engages a sensor that encodes the pedal position as an electronic signal. The electronic signal, along with the vehicle velocity, determines a machine deceleration rate, or braking rate, either by calculation, lookup table, or a combination of the two. The braking rate may be tuned so that the of the brake mimics or approximates the feel of a conventional mechanically-engaged brake that uses a brake cable. During stopping, once the vehicle passes below a threshold velocity, a parking brake is automatically engaged. The braking rate is converted to a duty cycle, and the braking is preferably accomplished by pulse width modulation (PWM) of an electrical load applied in parallel to the motor.

Abstract: A system and/or method that displays images in a vehicle dashboard area that appear, to an operator of the vehicle, to float above and/or below the vehicle's gauge face in a three-dimensional manner. In certain example embodiments, a system and/or method is provided wherein a gauge face includes a first sheet (e.g., vinyl sheet) having images laser-etched therein based on a design template, and a second sheet (e.g., polycarbonate sheet) to which the first sheet is applied. In certain example embodiments, when light from a dashboard backlight shows through the gauge face, the one or more of the laser-etched images appear to float above and/or below the gauge face in a three dimensional manner. In certain example embodiments, the images can be used in combination with and/or in place of conventional digital and/or analog gauges.

Abstract: A vehicle comprises a steering operation device, a pair of running-driving wheels, which differentially drive when the steering operation device is manipulated, a pair of steerable running wheels interlocking with the steering operation device, and a steering mechanism interposed between the steering operation device and the pair of running-driving wheels. The steering mechanism includes a pair of drive gears interlocking with the steering operation device and a pair of follower gears interlocking with the respective steerable running wheels. The drive gears mesh with the respective follower gears so as to control lateral turning of the respective steerable running wheels. A gear radius of the drive gear may be greater than that of the follower gear meshing with it. A gear ratio between the mutually meshing drive and follower gears may be variable.

Abstract: A power system for a vehicle drivetrain including a cylinder, first and second pistons, and a pressure source. The cylinder defines a central bore, a first inlet adjacent a first end, and a second inlet adjacent a second end. The pistons are coaxially disposed within the central bore, and each includes a leading end, a trailing end, and a piston body. The leading end is movably sealed within the central bore. The trailing end extends from the cylinder for coupling to the drivetrain. The piston body defines an outer diameter that is at least 75% of a diameter of the central bore. The pressure source is in fluid communication with the inlets. Forced flow of working fluid into the first inlet and release of working fluid from the second inlet effectuates movement of the pistons, and vice-versa. Reciprocating movement of the pistons provides power to the drivetrain.
