  • Patent number: 7324896
Abstract: A corridor search process is used to identify locations of interest along a travel route. The corridor search process identifies locations of interest along a travel route by using a grid search process that first identifies shape points that correspond to the travel route. Each shape point is associated with a portion of a grid system used to delineate a region of geography through which the route traverses. The portions of the grid system correspond to a corridor along the travel route. References to redundant portions of the grid system are removed, and locations of interest are identified based on an association between a location of interest with a particular portion of the grid system.

  • Patent number: 7324900
Abstract: A distributed sensing system and method improves sensing of events that may require restraint deployment in a vehicle by distinguishing between deployment events and non-deployment events using data from more than one sensor. A transmission check process continuously monitors an incoming signal from a sensor and counts the number of data samples that exceed a selected value using a counter. If the counter value exceeds a selected threshold, the system indicates that the transmission check is fulfilled and allows deployment of the restraint. A correlation acceleration difference (CAD) algorithm calculates a CAD term corresponding to a degree of intrusion of a foreign object into a vehicle at a given time. Acceleration data from sensors disposed at supporting sides of the vehicle are checked if they respond to an event, and the absolute values of the acceleration data are subtracted from each other to obtain an absolute difference from which the CAD term is calculated.

  • Patent number: 7324929
Abstract: The invention is a method for simulating one or more characteristics of a multi-component, hydrocarbon-bearing formation into which a displacement fluid having at least one component is injected to displace formation hydrocarbons. The first step of the method is to equate at least part of the formation to a multiplicity of gridcells. Each gridcell is then divided into two regions, a first region representing a portion of each gridcell swept by the displacement fluid and a second region representing a portion of each gridcell essentially unswept by the displacement fluid. The distribution of components in each region is assumed to be essentially uniform. A model is constructed that is representative of fluid properties within each region, fluid flow between gridcells using principles of percolation theory, and component transport between the regions. The model is then used in a simulator to simulate one or more characteristics of the formation.

  • Patent number: 7324931
Abstract: An automated model componentization feature systematically converts duplicate or otherwise amenable patterns in a model into references. Multiple references are simplified to one unit that contains the otherwise duplicated functionality. Duplicated or selected functionality is identified based on a number of arguments that may be user supplied. These arguments include the level of polymorphism (i.e., which of the sample times, dimensions, and data types can be propagated in) but also the maximum size of the patterns to look for to address the general trade-off of generating few partitions with many blocks or many partitions with few blocks and which modeling constructs are used (e.g., whether Go To/From connections such as in Simulink® are present). Model conversions can result in potentially disjoint partitions.

Abstract: Feedback control algorithms for controlling a given simulation model which relates to a computer-program-based method and respective system for providing a feedback control for a given set of control quantities of a simulation model, comprising a plurality of iterated simulation runs each of which consumes a considerable amount of time. Each single run is performed with a setting of starting values for certain entry control quantities suited to control certain target quantities. The respective next setting of entry quantities is based on the value of the target quantities measured in the preceding simulation run. In order to provide for a fast convergence of the target quantities to a final, predetermined value, the following formula is applied: x n + 1 ? = v n 1 + ? n ? ( 1 - v n ) where ?n=(n+1)u?nun u is the final value of the target control quantity aimed at un, its value achieved up to iteration n of the simulation run and ?n is a suitable system parameter.

  • Patent number: 7324937
Abstract: A method for performing packet loss concealment (PLC) and/or frame erasure concealment (FEC) in a speech decoder of a voice communication system. In accordance with the method, if a segment of an encoded speech signal is determined to be bad, an excitation signal is derived by scaling a random sequence of samples, and long-term and short-term predictive parameters are derived based on parameters associated with a previously-decoded segment. The excitation signal is then filtered by a long-term synthesis filter and a short-term synthesis filter under the control of the respective long-term and short-term predictive parameters. If the number of consecutively-received bad segments exceeds a predetermined threshold, the decoded speech signal is gradually reduced.

  • Patent number: 7324940
Abstract: Systems and methods for determining a confidence score associated with a decoding output of a speech recognition engine. In one embodiment, a method of determining the confidence score comprises arranging time frame and acoustic score data into an array, determining a phoneme sequence in the array that yields the highest sum of acoustic scores under certain constraints, e.g., minimum number of time frames and order of phonemes in a phoneme string. A relative score is derived by applying a functional relationship between the acoustic score and different sums comprising acoustic scores from the array. The confidence score, in some embodiments, depends at least in part on the relative score and a measure of ambiguity associated with similar sounding phrases being included in different concepts of a specified grammar.

Abstract: A media capture device has an audio input receptive of user speech relating to a media capture activity in close temporal relation to the media capture activity. A plurality of focused speech recognition lexica respectively relating to media capture activities are stored on the device, and a speech recognizer recognizes the user speech based on a selected one of the focused speech recognition lexica. A media tagger tags captured media with generated speech recognition text, and a media annotator annotates the captured media with a sample of the user speech that is suitable for input to a speech recognizer. Tagging and annotating are based on close temporal relation between receipt of the user speech and capture of the captured media. Annotations may be converted to tags during post processing, employed to edit a lexicon using letter-to-sound rules and spelled word input, or matched directly to speech to retrieve captured media.

  • Patent number: 7324945
Abstract: A method of speech recognition that uses hierarchical data structures that include a top level grammar and various related subgrammars, such as word, phone, and state subgrammars. A speech signal is acquired, and a probabilistic search is performed using the speech signal as an input, and using the (unexpanded) grammars and subgrammars as possible inputs. Memory is allocated to a subgrammar when a transition to that subgrammar is made during the probabilistic search. The subgrammar may then be expanded and evaluated, and the probability of a match between the speech signal and an element of the subgrammar for which memory has been allocated may be computed. Because unexpanded grammars and subgrammars take up very little memory, this method enables systems to recognize and process a larger vocabulary that would otherwise be possible.
