Abstract: By arranging the area covered by a central transmission point into zones and by using different modulation schemes within each zone, increased throughput can be achieved by reducing the interference between communicating devices. The zones typically would be arranged by either distance from the transmission point or by passloss (PL), which is a measure of the signal attenuation of a wireless link. Either the wireless devices can determine the distance between them, or a point external to each device can make or assist with the determination. Multiple methods exist for determination or estimation of PL. In one embodiment, two zones are used with the zone closest to the transmission point, or having a lower PL, being 8 QAM or 16 QAM, while a zone further away, or having a higher PL, would be QPSK. Alternatively, the two zones could be SDMA and non-SDMA, respectively.

Abstract: The Energy spectral density of OFDM signals inherently rolls off slowly. Slow OFDM spectral rolloff has system level implications traditionally mitigated by some combination of the following: addition of bandlimiting filtering; use of significant guard bands of zeroed tones; and, guard time shaping. Each of these techniques negatively impact system performance and/or flexibility. This application presents a methodology for active cancellation of out of band spectral energy. The technique can be used by itself or in conjunction with above traditional methods to help control out of band emission. Examples of the use of the new technique are provided. Computational cost of the new technique is also discussed.

Abstract: The present invention is related to indexing channel information feedback in a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO)-based wireless communication system. In one embodiment, at least one measurement of a channel metric is performed. The measured channel metric is quantized and a codeword is selected that represents the measured channel metric. Feedback is generated based on the channel metric measurement. The feedback includes an index to the selected codeword. A codebook is generated by partitioning a plurality of codewords into two or more tiers, assigning indices to the codewords and correlating the codewords in complex vector space and Hamming distance in binary indices. For any given codeword, a first subset of the codewords may have a higher correlation with respect to the given codeword. In another embodiment, the number of bits used to report codebook indexing is determined based on the frequency of the generation of the feedback.

Abstract: An uplink channel response matrix is obtained for each terminal and decomposed to obtain a steering vector used by the terminal to transmit on the uplink. An “effective” uplink channel response vector is formed for each terminal based on its steering vector and its channel response matrix. Multiple sets of terminals are evaluated based on their effective channel response vectors to determine the best set (e.g., with highest overall throughput) for uplink transmission. Each selected terminal performs spatial processing on its data symbol stream with its steering vector and transmits its spatially processed data symbol stream to an access point. The multiple selected terminals simultaneously transmit their data symbol streams via their respective MIMO channels to the access point. Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for an ultrasonic inspection of a penetration of a reactor pressure vessel, especially, a welded portion of the penetration. In the ultrasonic inspection, a position (inspection position) of an ultrasonic probe relative to a portion to be inspected can be identified without an effect of the surface of a portion to be inspected. The ultrasonic probe of the ultrasonic inspection apparatus, which is pushed onto the outer surface of the reactor pressure vessel, transmits and receives an ultrasonic wave to and from a penetration having a welded portion while changing an incident angle of the ultrasonic wave. Based on a result of reception of an echo obtained by the reflection of the ultrasonic wave on the inner surface of the penetration, an inclination angle of the penetration relative to a wall surface of the reactor pressure vessel is measured.

Abstract: At least one embodiment of the present application relates to a method and/or a device for automatically detecting chemical anomalies and/or salient features in soft tissue of an object area. In at least one embodiment of the method, two image data records of two computed tomography pictures of the object are provided which are recorded in the context of a different spectral distribution of the X-radiation. The following steps are carried out for each voxel of at least one interesting slice whose X-ray attenuation values are characteristic of soft tissue. Firstly, two X-ray attenuation values of the voxel, or two averaged X-ray attenuation values of the environment of the voxel are used to determine a data point of the voxel in a diagram in which the X-ray attenuation values are plotted against one another in the context of the two spectral distributions of the X-radiation.

Abstract: The invention relates to an examination apparatus and a method for perfusion studies in a patient (1). According to the method, a rotational X-ray device (10) is moved on a closed, preferably non-planar trajectory (T) while continuously generating projections of the patient (1) after the injection of a contrast agent with an injection device (20). The projections are used by a data processing system (30) in a sliding window technique to reconstruct three-dimensional images of the body volume. The resulting sequence of 3D images may be displayed on a monitor (31) to reveal the desired information about the perfusion process.

A radiation detector includes second translating device comprising a second controller for positioning the detector. A motion capture device is communicably connected to both the first and second controllers. The motion capture device tracks a position of the object being imaged and provides position information to both the first controller and second controllers for dynamically coordinating trajectories for both the radiation source and the radiation detector. The first and second translating devices preferably comprise robotic arms.

Transmission imaging is performed using a fan beam and a segmented detector, while scatter imaging is performed with a scanned pencil beam, with both beams active simultaneously. Abstract: A method and system are providing for performing X-ray diagnostic imaging using a camera image controlled to image a field of view (FOV) that is substantially coincident and coplanar with a radiation footprint or FOV of an X-ray beam radiated towards a patient under examination. Both the X-ray beam and camera FOVs are shaped and/or limited by collimation. The method and system include acquiring a camera image with a collimated FOV to an X-ray beam FOV before X-ray imaging a patient, displaying the camera image and adjusting the collimation and patient positioning to define the X-ray beam FOV based on the displayed camera image before X-ray imaging the patient. After adjustment, the method and system include radiating the X-ray beam as collimated during the patient X-ray imaging, acquiring and processing captured X-ray image information to reconstruct an X-ray image and displaying the reconstructed X-ray image with the displayed camera image.
