  • Patent number: 7335217
Abstract: A high-speed pneumatic cutting system having a cutter and an actuator. The cutter is a guillotine-type, pneumatic cutter that receives a train of pressure pulses from the actuator. The actuator is designed to capture pressure pulses it receives from a pneumatic energy source in a surgical machine, such as a vitrectomy machine, or to generate its own pneumatic energy. The actuator has an accumulator coupled to the outlet of the pneumatic energy and a pressure transducer that senses the pressure level inside the accumulator. A control and display unit with a plurality of input mechanisms receives inputs from a user who selects a desired cutting rate or frequency for the cutter. The control and display unit produces an output signal based on the inputs received. The outputs from the control and display unit and the pressure transducer are sent to a waveform shaping circuit. The waveform shaping circuit produces a command signal based on the inputs that it receives.

  • Patent number: 7335220
Abstract: Apparatus for sealing a puncture communicating with a blood vessel includes a porous carrier formed from lyophilized hydrogel or other material. The plug may include at least first and second hydrogel precursors and a pH adjusting agent carried by the porous carrier in an unreactive state prior to exposure to an aqueous physiological environment. Once exposed to bodily fluids, the carrier expands as the lyophilized material hydrates to enhance and facilitate rapid hemostasis of the puncture. When the plug is placed into the puncture, the natural wetting of the plug by bodily fluids (e.g., blood) causes the first and second precursors to react and cross-link into an adhesive or “sticky” hydrogel that aids in retaining the plug in place within the puncture.

  • Patent number: 7335227
Abstract: A composite stent having a substrate tube made of stainless steel, a nickel-cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloy, or chonichrome with at least one metal cladding tube is disclosed. Specifically, the substrate tube is placed within a metal cladding tube made of platinum, gold, tantalum, tungsten, platinum-iridium, palladium, or nickel-titanium, preferably with an interference fit therebetween. The composite, laminate tube then undergoes a series of rolling or cold drawing processes interspersed with heat treating to release built up stresses. When the final diameter of the laminate tube is reached, the cladding has been laminated to the exterior of the substrate tube by a bond generated from the rolling and/or cold drawing operations. The finished laminate tube is then cut by laser cutting or chemical etching to form a suitable stent pattern.

  • Patent number: 7335260
Abstract: A laser annealing apparatus for sequential lateral solidification (SLS) to uniformly crystallize silicon on an entire silicon substrate by minimizing the dislocation of the silicon substrate during laser beam irradiation is disclosed. During the laser annealing, a vacuum chuck holds the silicon substrate on a movable stage. The device includes a laser source, an optical system patterning the shape and energy of a laser beam irradiated from the laser source, a vacuum chuck supporting a silicon substrate, and a movable stage supporting the vacuum chuck as well as transferring the vacuum chuck in a predetermined direction. Accordingly, the apparatus improves the degree of crystallization because it is able to uniformly carry out SLS on an entire surface of the silicon substrate.

  • Patent number: 7335262
Abstract: An apparatus includes an autoclave for preparing a supercritical solvent, a convection controller for establishing a convection flow, a dissolution zone where a feedstock is located above the convection controller and a crystallization zone where a seed is located below the convection controller are formed. A convection flow rate of the supercritical solution between the dissolution zone and the crystallization zone is determined by the degree of opening of the convection controller and the temperature difference between the dissolution zone and the crystallization zone. Accordingly, the supercritical solution, in which the nitride has a negative temperature coefficient of solubility, is supplied from the dissolution zone to the crystallization zone in which a seed is located through the convection controller so that nitride crystal is selectively grown on the seed by maintaining supersaturation of the supercritical solution with respect to the seed at a raised temperature.
