Abstract: Device for protectively covering a first portion of a first surface when a second portion of a second surface adjoining the first surface is painted. The device includes a plate having a generally elongated rectangular shape and a distal edge. One side of the plate defines a working surface against which paint is collected during painting the second portion. The device also includes a flexible member that has a tip coupled to the plate, an elongated middle portion formed of flexible material and operative to generate a resilient force upon bending, and a bottom portion to be coupled to an end of an elongated handle. When a user bends the middle portion and positions the distal end against one of the first and second surfaces and positions the other end of the handle coupled to the bottom portion against a third surface, the device is held in place by itself due to the resilient force.

Abstract: In a motor vehicle with idle stop function, upon satisfaction of preset engine restart conditions (step S205), automatic engine restart control refers to a preset map representing a variation in amount of fuel Q1, which is to be initially injected into a cylinder Cyin stopping in an intake stroke, against the piston stop position Pin of the cylinder Cyin, and specifies the amount of fuel Q1 corresponding to the detected piston stop position Pin of the cylinder Cyin (step S220). The automatic engine restart control then controls an injector to inject the specified amount of fuel Q1 into an intake port of the cylinder Cyin (step S230). Under the condition that the piston stop position Pin of the cylinder Cyin suggests low gas intake performance, the increased amount of fuel Q1 is injected into the intake port of the cylinder Cyin. This arrangement desirably reduces a misfire rate at the timing of first combustion and thereby improves the startability of an engine.

Abstract: A stroke control assembly for an engine. The assembly is configured to transfer power from a rectilinear moving piston by way of an interaction between a control plate and a flywheel of the assembly. The control plate is configured to phase shift or overrun the flywheel at predetermined locations of interface between a rectilinear moving piston and the control plate. In this manner, significant forces that might otherwise be applied to the control plate, may be avoided, following these predetermined locations. The control plate may also allow a firm engagement of a mechanical rectifier (one way clutch) while tracking a substantially constant velocity piston device for about 240° of rotation thereof to optimally enhance collection of power from the rectilinear moving piston.

Abstract: Hydraulically driven pump-injector with controlling mechanism for internal combustion engines, primarily for diesel, distinguished via the fact that in the pump-injector body (1) above needle (9) additional cylindrical cavity (69) is made, in which locking piston (8) is mounted, resting upon needle (9), the diameter of said additional cavity and hence the piston diameter being selected on the basis of the formulae disclosed in the invention. Space (24) formed above the piston face is periodically connected through distribution channel (25) and valve (33) of the distributing device to the source of the actuating fluid and the drain tank, alternately. This ensures a decrease in the delay of the operation on the nozzle needle compared to the signal from the electronic control unit (travel of the valve of the distributing device), required for obtaining small time delays between the injections in multiphase injection, as well as increased stability of the idle running of the engine.

Abstract: A fuel supply apparatus includes a component adjustment unit, a low-pressure side passage, and a valve. The unit adjusts component composition of fuel by separating a particular component from fuel. The unit includes a component separation wall, which divides an interior of a portion of a fuel supply passage between an anterior chamber and a posterior chamber. The wall includes a separation membrane, which the particular component of fuel in the anterior chamber selectively permeates to be separated. The particular component after passing through the wall is temporarily stored in the posterior chamber. When the low-pressure side passage connected to the posterior chamber is opened by the valve, the particular component is separated. Fuel, from which the particular component is separated, is supplied to an injection valve from the anterior chamber. When the low-pressure side passage is closed by the valve, the separation of the particular component is restricted.

Abstract: A method for detecting the opening of a passive pressure control valve, which conducts fuel from a common rail system back to a fuel tank, in which the rail pressure (pCR) is automatically controlled by calculating a correcting variable for acting on the controlled system from a rail pressure control deviation via a pressure controller, and in which, starting from a steady-state rail pressure in normal operation, a load reduction is detected when the rail pressure exceeds a first limit. Opening of the pressure control valve is detected after the first limit is exceeded if a steady-state operating state is subsequently detected again, and if a characteristic of the closed-loop control system deviates significantly from a reference value.

Abstract: A control method for a fuel injection system having a spill valve (20), a nozzle control valve (22) and a valve needle (12) which is engageable with a seating to control fuel injection, wherein the method comprises applying a first drive current signal (30) to the spill valve (22) to move the spill valve (22) into a closed state and applying a second drive current signal (40) to the nozzle control valve (22) to move the nozzle control valve (22) to an open state, thereby to lift the valve needle (12) from the seating to initiate a main injection of fuel. The first drive current signal (30) is modified so as to move the spill valve (20) to an open state during “a spill valve opening period” during which the second drive current signal (40) is modified to move the nozzle control to valve (22) from the open state to a closed state. As a result the valve needle (12) is seated to terminate the main injection of fuel.
