  • Patent number: 7366486
Abstract: An integrated receiver with channel selection and image rejection substantially implemented on a single CMOS integrated circuit is described. A receiver front end provides programable attenuation and a programable gain low noise amplifier. Frequency conversion circuitry advantageously uses LC filters integrated onto the substrate in conjunction with image reject mixers to provide sufficient image frequency rejection. Filter tuning and inductor Q compensation over temperature are performed on chip. The filters utilize multi track spiral inductors. The filters are tuned using local oscillators to tune a substitute filter, and frequency scaling during filter component values to those of the filter being tuned. In conjunction with filtering, frequency planning provides additional image rejection. The advantageous choice of local oscillator signal generation methods on chip is by PLL out of band local oscillation and by direct synthesis for in band local oscillator.

  • Patent number: 7366516
Abstract: A method is provided of targeting short message service (SMS) message for delivery to a mobile station. When an SMS center (SMSC) in a cellular network receives an SMS message and is to send it to a mobile station, the SMS center determines the location of the mobile station either directly or indirectly via a location register. The SMS center correlates that location with a particular base transceiver station serving that location. The SMS center then causes the SMS message to be delivered to the mobile station via that particular base transceiver station. The SMS center thus can avoid sending SMS messages to all base transceiver stations in a given area, thereby conserving network resources.

Abstract: The invention relates to a signal processing method which optimizes the bit error rate under pragmatic conditions. The signalling method is optimally matched to the radio channel, variable with time, in rapid sequence by means of linear operations. Uplink and downlink transmission sides are determined by an excess of antennae on the downlink transmission side. The estimations of the channel matrix in the one transmission direction, necessary for the matching of the transmitter, can, in the absence of common-channel distortions with the condition of channel reciprocity, be directly obtained from the estimations for the other transmission direction. By a suitable linear combination of the transmission signals and, optionally, also the received signals, an error-free bi-directional transmission of data streams can be achieved in Rayleigh and Rice channels with significantly lower transmission powers than in purely receiver-side linear signal processing.

Abstract: A system and method for using subnet relations to determine paging areas, for performing authentication and association, and to activate access network interfaces in wireless communication devices in a heterogeneous access network. Paging areas are generated using subnet relations by determining mobility agent servers within a predetermined number of subnet relations from a last active mobility agent server. Authentication and association are also accomplished using subnet relations. Access network interfaces can also be turned on and off based on subnet relations thereby conserving battery power.

  • Patent number: 7366525
Abstract: Upon determining (11) a need to transmit a message (such as a paging message) to a mobile station within a multi-band wireless communications system, the system (via, for example, a mobile switching center) identifies (12) discrete geographic locations within the system having a likelihood of presently supporting the mobile station and further identifies (13) a band within the multi-band system that also has a present likelihood of presently supporting the mobile station. This information is then used (14) (for example, by a base station controller) to identify one or more communication resources to be allocated for use when transmitting the message.

Abstract: This technique is applied in the circumstances where an intersystem page message, e.g. an IS-41 ISPAGE2 message, is received in a first border switching module. The intersystem page message may originate from a second border switching module. In this case, the network determines whether the second border switching module is manufactured by a different network provider than the first border switching module. If so, a routine to address inconsistencies in the location area parameter is implemented so that an efficient paging strategy can be invoked.
