Publication number: 20080099154Abstract: A process for treatment of an aqueous stream to produce a low solute containing distillate stream and a high solute/solids containing blowdown stream utilizing a method to increase the efficiency of an evaporator while providing an essentially scale free environment for the heat transfer surface. Multi-valent ions and non-hydroxide alkalinity are removed from aqueous feed streams to very low levels and then the pH is increased preferably to about 9 or higher to increase the ionization of low ionizable constituents in the aqueous solution. In this manner, species such as silica and boron become highly ionized, and their solubility in the concentrated solution that is present in the evaporation equipment is significantly increased. The result of this is high allowable concentration factors and a corresponding increase in the recovery of high quality reusable water with essentially no scaling.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 17, 2003Publication date: May 1, 2008Inventors: Keith R. Publication number: 20080099175Abstract: A method for in-gas micro/nanoimprinting of bulk metallic glass includes steps of preparing a die, heating the bulk metallic glass and in-gas micro/nanoimprinting of the bulk metallic glass. In the step of preparing a die, the die has a micro/nano structure having multiple depressions and a flow channel connected to the depressions. In the step of heating the bulk metallic glass, the bulk metallic glass is heated to a temperature between a glass transition temperature and a crystallization temperature of the bulk metallic glass. In the step of in-gas micro/nanoimprinting, the bulk metallic glass is forced into the die in presence of gas to imprint a complementing micro/nano structure on the bulk metallic glass. A shape memory material is placed within the path of fluid flow to regulate the amount of fluid flow in response to stimuli at desired low and high operating temperatures of the heat-generating device. At the low desired device operating temperature, the shape memory material restricts the amount of fluid flow through the cooling fins. At the high desired device operating temperature, the shape memory material does not restrict fluid flow through the cooling fins.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 1, 2006Publication date: May 1, 2008Inventors: Slavek Peter Aksamit, James Gordon McLean, Cristian Medina

Publication number: 20080099194Abstract: A deflection device keeps high velocity gravel slurry flow from directly impinging the wellbore wall in open hole and breaking loose the filter cake coating on the wall or, in a cased hole, prevents the direct impingement of gravel slurry on the casing which can cause wear from erosion. The slurry exist from an intermediate annulus in a crossover that is fitted with movable members that can be pivotally mounted for rotational displacement by the pumped slurry to act as a deflector to prevent or minimize direct impingement on the wellbore wall or casing. When the flow stops the deflectors can pivot back to their original positions. The deflectors can be simply replaced when worn.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 25, 2006Publication date: May 1, 2008Inventor: Nicholas J. Clem

Publication number: 20080099196Abstract: The apparatus of the present invention provides a top drive supported tool for making up and running casing strings into a borehole. The tool comprises a fill-up and circulation assembly and a launcher assembly that is adapted to cooperate with a connectable cement wiper plug assembly for launching wiper plugs that control cement placement in the annulus between a casing string and a borehole containing the casing string. The tool of the present invention shortens or eliminates delays in well operations, thereby improving integrity of cement liners formed by placing cement slurry in a targeted interval.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 1, 2006Publication date: May 1, 2008Inventors: Burney J. Publication number: 20080099197Abstract: In some embodiments, an apparatus and a system, as well as a method and an article, may include a signal integrity monitor that senses the signal transmitted between a surface device and a downhole device. The signal integrity monitor is adapted to disconnect power from the communication system if a fault in the communication line is detected.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2006Publication date: May 1, 2008Inventor: Richard Graham Payne

Publication number: 20080099198Abstract: The invention relates to a method for predicting zonal productivity of an oilfield drilling operation. The method comprises acquiring critical drawdown pressure profile (CDPP) of at least one selected from a group consisting of an open well and a cased well, establishing a CDPP criteria according to geomechanics based model, identifying sand failure according to the CDPP criteria, and predicting zonal productivity of a drilling operation according to the sand failure.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 25, 2007Publication date: May 1, 2008Applicant: SCHLUMBERGER TECHNOLOGY CORPORATIONInventors: Gary Drebit, Brian Smith

Publication number: 20080099199Abstract: A wellbore chemical treating system includes a pressure vessel for containing a treating chemical. The pressure vessel is closed to atmospheric pressure. A first controllably operated valve is disposed in fluid communication between an outlet of the pressure vessel and a well for selectively controlling the flow of the chemical from the pressure vessel to the well. A pressurized gas is disposed in the pressure vessel wherein the pressure exerted by the pressurized gas causes the chemical to flow from the pressure vessel to the well through the first valve when the first valve is opened. A second controllably operated valve is disposed in fluid communication between the well and an outlet of a fluid tank for selectively controlling flow of fluid in the tank to the well. The fluid tank is replenished by fluid produced from the well. The system includes a controller for selectively operating the first valve and the second valve.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 2, 2008Publication date: May 1, 2008Inventor: Robert Ayres

Publication number: 20080099200Abstract: A system for preventing the migration of unconsolidated and/or loosely consolidated material into a wellbore. Such prevention is accomplished by introducing a well treatment medium comprising an expandable fluid and a bonding agent into an unconsolidated zone proximate the wellbore. The expandable fluid is allowed to expand and flow through the unconsolidated zone while the bonding agent cures, thereby forming a consolidated zone having sufficient porosity to allow fluid flow therethrough.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 1, 2006Publication date: May 1, 2008Applicant: CONOCOPHILLIPS COMPANYInventor: Dennis R.
