Publication number: 20080112629Abstract: A method for progressive JPEG image decoding and a method for controlling a decoder are disclosed. In the image decoding method, an amount of macroblocks that can be stored during the process of decoding is determined according to the size of the memory, and then, according to the amount of macroblocks, a scan layer is divided into a plurality of decoding areas. In each turn of decoding, data of the same decoding area in all the scan layers are decoded. In the next turn, a decoding area next to the previous one is selected for decoding. Therefore, the present invention can decode the image correctly with a limited memory resource, without affecting the display quality of the image. The image decoding method also can be applied to the control of a decoder, so as to reduce the occupied memory capacity.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 9, 2007Publication date: May 15, 2008Applicant: Sunplus Technology Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yu-Chi Chen, Chi-Wen Huang

Publication number: 20080112664Abstract: The invention discloses an in-line polarization-state converter. In the polarization converter, a laser beam is radiated onto the side of a photosensitive optical fiber. The laser beam causes the refractive index of an optical fiber core to asymmetrically vary. Birefringence is induced in a core mode of the optical fiber by the variation in the asymmetrical refractive index. An optical fiber segment having the birefringence is generally disposed on a waveguide path of the optical fiber to change the polarization state of an optical signal passing through the optical fiber segment. That is, the phase of the optical signal passing through the optical fiber is changed by radiation of laser beams, which results in a variation in polarization state. The polarization converter disposed on the waveguide path is covered with a metal tube in order to prevent the polarization converter from being bent or broken.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 9, 2007Publication date: May 15, 2008Applicant: Gwangju Institute of Science and TechnologyInventors: Byeong Ha Lee, Myoung Jin Kim

Publication number: 20080112674Abstract: An optic fiber connection arrangement has a module mountable on a printed circuit board, and an optic fiber coupler including mating components One of the mating components is adapted for coupling into the module. A frame supports one of the components. The frame is releasably latchable to the module so as to couple and decouple the mating component to the module. In this way, the optic fiber coupler can be removed from the module by releasing the frame. The other mating component can be removed from the one mating component after removal of the frame from the module.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 22, 2006Publication date: May 15, 2008Applicant: Zarlink Semiconductor ABInventor: Hans Magnus Emil Andersson

Publication number: 20080112676Abstract: A colored optical fiber whose transmission loss hardly increases even in a high humidity condition or water-immersed condition is provided. The colored optical fiber according to the present invention is a colored optical fiber having a colored coating layer on a circumference of an optical fiber having at least two coating layers on a circumference of a glass optical fiber, characterized in that a difference in each amount of thermal expansion in an outer diameter direction between the optical fiber and a coating layer obtained by removing the glass optical fiber from the optical fiber in a temperature range from ?100° C. to 100° C. is 1.8 ?m or less.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 26, 2007Publication date: May 15, 2008Applicant: The Furukawa Electric Co, LTD.Inventors: Yasuo Nakajima, Kouji Mochizuki, Hiroki Tanaka, Tetsuo Satou

Publication number: 20080112677Abstract: An optical display system includes an image generator providing discrete anamorphic picture elements to form an image, with each picture element spatially compressed along only a short dimension. A fiber optic array magnifier extends from the image generator and includes optical fibers dimensioned for optically coupling to each discrete anamorphic picture element. An output face of the array magnifier is bias-cut for magnifying the image along the short dimension. A light redirecting structure includes layered arcuate waveguide slabs optically coupled to the array magnifier with each of the arcuate waveguide slabs optically coupled to the array magnifier. A screen is integrally formed with the light redirecting structure and includes tapered slab waveguide portions positioned between light absorbing material having a saw tooth styled edge for providing multiple scattering and thus multiple absorption of ambient light incident upon the screen.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 20, 2007Publication date: May 15, 2008Inventor: Ronald Smith
