Abstract: A control LSI (30) time-divides one frame period of an input image signal into a plurality of sub-frame periods and outputs the signal to a display panel, so as to carry out image display by pseudo impulse driving. At this time, in a first display mode, a first tone converting circuit (34) refers to a first table (37), and a second tone converting circuit (35) refers to a third table (39), to generate an image signal of each sub-frame from the input image signal. In a second display mode, the first tone converting circuit (34) refers to a second table (38), and the second tone converting circuit (35) refers to a fourth table (40), to generate the image signal of the sub-frame from the input image signal. Each of a first selector (41) and a second selector (42) switches the tables to be referred in accordance with a mode switching signal.

Abstract: A circuit and method for driving pixels in an organic electroluminescent display that reduces the number of wirings of a compensation circuit for addressing brightness non-uniformity. The pixel driving circuit includes an organic electroluminescent device that emits light corresponding to an amount of a current being applied. A first transistor is connected to a power supply voltage and applies the current corresponding to a data voltage to the organic electroluminescent device. A first capacitor stores the data voltage, and a threshold voltage compensation unit stores a threshold voltage of the first transistor. A second transistor transmits the data voltage from a data line in response to a selection signal from an nth scan line. A switching unit electrically disconnects a second primary electrode of the first transistor from the organic electroluminescent device while the threshold voltage is stored in the threshold voltage compensation unit in response to a control signal.

Abstract: Disclosed are devices for integrating photo sensors into sub-pixels of pixels of an array of pixels to substantially maintain the brightness of a touch screen display. In one embodiment, one or more photo sensors are distributed across two colored sub-pixels. Accordingly, the aperture ratios of the sub-pixels can be more substantially equal than the aperture ratios of the sub-pixels when a single sub-pixel includes a photo sensor. In another embodiment, one or more photo sensors are distributed across three sub-pixels. Accordingly, the aperture ratios of the sub-pixels may be substantially equal so that the light from each of the colors may mix in substantially equal amounts to generate white light. A white sub-pixel may be included with the sub-pixels of a pixel. A photo sensor may be integrated into the white sub-pixel. White light from combined colored light of sub-pixels can be further brightened by light from the white sub-pixel.
