Publication number: 20080136552Abstract: Provided is a microwave module having a converter for improving transmission characteristics in a millimeter-wave band. When a microstrip transmission line and a conductor-backed coplanar waveguide (CBCPW) transmission line are connected by wire bonding, a change in impedance caused by wire bonding and an abrupt change in electric field components between the two transmission lines are reduced by the converter. Therefore, insertion loss and return loss are reduced, and transmission characteristics in a millimeter-wave band are improved.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 19, 2007Publication date: June 12, 2008Applicant: Electronics and Telecommunications Research InstituteInventors: Dong Young Kim, Jae Kyoung Mun, Dong Suk Jun, Hae Cheon Kim

Publication number: 20080136554Abstract: Systems and methods for hot standby of radio frequency (RF) power amplifier are disclosed, an auxiliary RF power amplifier is added and SPDT microwave switches are adopted at the input and output sides of primary RF power amplifiers to control whether to make the auxiliary RF power amplifier function. When a primary RF power amplifier fails, the auxiliary power amplifier can immediately take over the functions of the failed primary RF power amplifier without cutting off the power or stopping the operation of the whole system. SPDT microwave switches with multiple transmission lines and switch devices connected based on certain topologies are disclosed. The SPDT microwave switches have the functions of signal switching and power dividing and combining, simple circuit topology, excellent impedance matching characteristics or no reflected signals at ports, therefore the switches are highly practical and can be adopted in RF power amplifier hot standby systems.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 18, 2007Publication date: June 12, 2008Inventors: Pinghua HE, Wenxin YUAN

Publication number: 20080136559Abstract: A parallel resonant circuit is realized by stacking first to fourth wiring patterns each having at least an inductance element. One of the adjacent first and second wiring patterns is set to a signal input node and the other thereof is set to a signal output node. Then, the signal input node is connected to the signal output node via inductance elements of the first wiring pattern, third wiring pattern, fourth wiring pattern and second wiring pattern in order. By adjacently forming wiring layers of the signal input and output nodes, a capacitance value between the input and output nodes is increased compared to that when they are separated. Also, by increasing the line width of the first and second wiring patterns, the capacitance value can be further increased. Therefore, it is possible to achieve a large capacitance value in a small area and downsizing of the electronic device.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 6, 2007Publication date: June 12, 2008Inventors: Wataru TAKAHASHI, Shigeru Tsuchida, Hiroshi Okabe

Publication number: 20080136562Abstract: A method and a micro power generator for generating electrical power from low frequency, vibrational energy includes a frequency up-conversion process. The generator is preferably an electromagnetic, vibration-to-electrical power generator which can efficiently scavenge energy from low frequency external vibrations. The generator up-converts low frequency environmental vibrations to a much higher frequency through a mechanical frequency up-converter, and hence provides efficient energy conversion even at low frequencies. This mechanical frequency up-conversion process can be realized in a number of ways. A magnetic method is described as an example. After frequency up-conversion, voltage is induced on coils mounted on resonators by electromagnetic induction. Due to the movement of the coils on their respective resonating cantilevers with respect to the magnet, voltage is generated on the coils and energy conversion is realized.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 21, 2005Publication date: June 12, 2008Applicant: THE REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGANInventors: Haluk Kulah, Khalil Najafi

Publication number: 20080136572Abstract: Disclosed is an integrated tunable inductor having mutual micromachined inductances fabricated in close proximity to a tunable inductor that is switched in and out by micromechanical ohmic switches to change the inductance of the integrated tunable inductor. To achieve a large tuning range and high quality factor, silver is preferably used as the structural material to co-fabricate the inductors and micromachined switches, and silicon is selectively removed from the backside of the substrate. Using this method, exemplary tuning of 47% at 6 GHz is achievable for a 1.1 nH silver inductor fabricated on a low-loss polymer membrane. The effect of the quality factor on the tuning characteristic of the integrated inductor is evaluated by comparing the measured result of substantially identical inductors fabricated on various substrates. Publication number: 20080136595Abstract: The present invention relates to a method, a reading device and a system for transmitting data and/or energy between a reading device and a transponder unit. Via a first antenna coil of the reading device generating a first magnetic field data and/or energy are transmitted to the transponder unit. By means of a second antenna coil a second magnetic field with opposite sign is generated. Within a near field or communication range (12) of the reading device the second magnetic field is weaker than the first magnetic field. In a tap-proof range (13), i.e. outside the near field, the two magnetic fields have the same absolute value and cancel each other out due to the opposite signs.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 13, 2006Publication date: June 12, 2008Inventor: Klaus Finkenzeller

Publication number: 20080136596Abstract: A passive tag including a volatile memory is provided. The passive tag includes: a sensing unit which senses or measures information about environmental surroundings of the tag; a volatile memory; a non-volatile memory; and a control unit which firstly stores resultant data sensed or measured by the sensing unit in the volatile memory and then moves the data stored in the volatile memory to the non-volatile memory according to pre-set conditions. Therefore, the life of the tag is prolonged and stability of important data can be secured.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2007Publication date: June 12, 2008Applicant: ELECTRONICS AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS RESEARCH INSTITUTEInventors: Junho YEO, Josef Preishuber-Pfluegl, Alex JANEK, Andreas SCHUHA, Hae-Won SON, Jae-Young JUNG, Hee-Sook MO, Ji-Hoon BAE, Gil-Young CHOI, Cheol-Sig PYO, Jong-Suk CHAE

Publication number: 20080136597Abstract: Provided is a radio frequency identification (RFID) sensor tag antenna using an aperture coupling feeding method, including: a radiation patch for determining a resonance frequency of the RFID sensor tag antenna, which is disposed in an uppermost portion of the RFID sensor tag antenna; a first dielectric layer disposed on a bottom surface of the radiation patch and interposed between the radiation patch and a ground layer disposed to be parallel with the radiation patch; and a slot formed in a side of the ground layer and coupling RF signals to the RFID sensor tag antenna. Thus, the RFID sensor tag antenna can separately adjust resistance and reactance components of input impedance. As a result, the RFID sensor tag antenna can be matched with an RFID sensor tag board without an additional matching circuit.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 6, 2007Publication date: June 12, 2008Applicant: Electronics and Telecommunications Research InstituteInventors: Won Kyu CHOI, Hae Won Son, Jae-Young Jung, Junho Yeo, Gil Young Choi, Cheol Sig Pyo
